I am in the process of planning to open a business. I know in my heart of hearts that this process is leading me down the "right path". This business and its success means everything to me.

That said, Hexagram 5, Waiting, is the ever-echoing theme for the actual starting up of the business (I think I have literally been given this hexagram in one form or another in regard to the business more than 10 times), but... I need to work to live till this waiting period is over! (My guess is that we're looking at about a year till we open.)

I am currently working with my business partner at a pottery shop, but I am a classically trained singer, and always look for ways to use my voice to make money here and there. I consider it an enormous blessing to be able to make money doing something that feels like the most fun anyone could ever have. Last week, I went to an audition for Disney -- to sing with the Voices of Liberty. They liked me, and I have a "call-back" audition next week.

I asked the oracle what to expect from the audition and got 19.1.2>2.

Then asked how working at Disney would affect the business and got 19.6>41.

Singing, for me, always felt like a luxury and a very ego-filled past time... It makes me feel so happy to be able to sing, to be filled and surrounded by (and paid for making) good music. Beauty, pride, stress, importance... It creates in me - and I know this - an artificial happiness... a luxury totally unrelated to any spiritual fulfillment for me.

So... I have the opportunity now to do something that makes me so happy, and that will pay LITERALLY 4 times what I make at the pottery shop... But I do not want to let any successes with music lead me astray from my true aspirations. That is my own fear, and these readings speak directly to that fear.

What do you think?

Why don't you try the singing gig for a while (since you need to anyhow) and see how you feel... decide "what you really want to do" after you've seen what the choice you're making *really* is.

My two cents,

Naturally, you guys are right. There's no reason to close any doors before I even know for sure if/how they are opening in front of me.

I thought it was interesting, though, that the two readings were identical, yet different. Any insight on the difference between what I can expect from the audition and how that future path affects my other plans? And... perhaps how I should approach both/either?

Maybe the fact that the readings were the same means that I won't get the singing job anyway, and my plans will not be affected?

As Bruce pointed out in the other thread you started, *predicting* the future is very tough with the Yi. It more *prepares* you for the future - sometimes this involves a prediction, but I've found that the predictions it makes are typically "indirect" - tangential to the question you asked.

So, look at it this way: 19.6 is indicating a friendly end to the advance. *If* the singing stuff takes off, you may be in a situation where giving up the business venture is completely natural and understandable - "what anyone would do" so you'll want/be able to gracefully bow out of the partnership. Conversely, if the audition doesn't pan out (a friendly "that was great, but not precisely what we're looking for" from the talent folks) you'll be perfectly happy returning to your original plans.

So, kind of a "double meaning/borderline/decision point" interpretation is natural here (and I find quite frequent with the Yi's answers).

Given the precise wording of your question, it favors the interpretation that you get the singing job and then give up the partnership. However, I've learned to be *very* cautious with Yes/No predictions like that with the Yi in most cases.

Btw, I pretty much think Bruce alluded to the same points in his posts to you on the other thread. I think I'm just saying the same things, albeit spelling them out in more laborious detail.

Anyhow, good luck with it - sounds like you really have a path that looks good either way you go.
