Mixed messages about relationship

Hi I recently asked the i ching about getting back with my girlfriend and got quite a positive result 24 (future 41). I then asked again about two weeks later and got 62 (with the future 52) which I have read to be quite negative. What should I do based on this advice? Should I wait to approach her, give up or what?? Very confused by the i ching!!

Any help will be appreciated!

I have not got time to reply properly now... but will get back to you later if no-one else does.

Some quick observations.

The Dao of the time can open and close... sometimes a window of time opens... then it itis up to you to discern that time and act appropriately to the nature of that time... before it closes.

It may open again... but for now it is closed according to your second oracle.

Your second reading is a very interesting one...

Remember the lower hexagram is most often representative of the persons inner world and the outer one is that of the outer world?

Notice that the difference between the upper trigram in 62 has effectively flipped upside down to take you to Hx.52? - There is a window closing for you to see - Read all of the lines from 1 - 6 in 62 and you will see there is a progressive story. The story of the time progresing throuh Hx. 62... this will shed some light on your lines 4 and 6 and the reason for the movement.

The movement of that upper trigram, the outer world (?the woman?) is such that the tensions created in lines 4 & 6 have cause the upper 62 trigram of thunder (creative sudden and fertile change) to flip upside down and become a ruddy great blockage called a mountain (Chen).

No... 52... become stilled in your heart and stilled in your outer actions toward her - for now... this is the Yi's advice on how to deal with this time movement best.

BTW... Also notice hexagrams aslo come in pairs... 1:2 3:4 etc In this case 61:62... notice how the first one is like an idea or an inspirer of the time and the second of the pair is like a manifestation or result of the first?

Notice most pairs the second hexagram is the same as the first upside down? These are the slow transforming changes of time.

Your 61:62 pair is one of the very few where the second hexagram is the same as the first when all of the lines become their opposite (the dark lines become light lines and the light lines dark)... this is a transformative change... a movement in time which is not progressive but where the tensions in the first hx.61 lead to a sudden transformation. Karcher calls them the 'Great Gates of Change'.

You might like to read 61:62 together that will also shed a lot of light on some transformation that has taken place for you in this matter.

(I would say that upper trigram flip is a transformation too BTW)

Will try to get back to you later... but reading things as above you should be able to suss it pretty well...

62 ? Only small things are achievable

This is a time to be adaptive and not to strive forward.
There are dangers here and the way to behave is like the small bird which becomes silent so as not to draw attention to itself when dangers and radical upheavals are about. They go silent so as not to give away their presence and draw attention to themselves ? This is the correct way to behave now.

Line 4 ? Says you have or about to finish negotiating this difficult time and you were or are successful in doing what was required like the bird above.

Line 6 ? Maybe follows on after line four time wise ? You then did or are in danger of doing - failing to keep a low profile ? The bird sitting on a branch sitting singing away and failing to keep low.

This has, or if you do make the mistake in line six ? led / leads to a situation where you will be forced to a standstill? no progress toward getting back together.

How?s that?

But nothing stays still for ever? another window of approach may come about.

Hi Kev sorry to disturb you again but I thought i'd re-phrase my question to the i ching about my relationship (when I say re-phrase I mean not too radically obviously), this time I got 42 followed by 26 as a future hexagram!! Now i'm even more confused because 42 seems to say 'go for it!' and 26 seems to say 'wait'.

Sorry to bug you again but is their anyway I can reconcile all my readings?

Hi Kevin, thanks for your time. The new question was basically asking the i ching for a plan of action in order to get back with my ex as most other answers seemed to inform me of the state of mind I should adopt (which are helpful nonetheless) instead of telling me what to actually DO, hope that helps.

The Yijing did not tell you what state of mind to adopt. Very often people new to the Yijing (and I did this too) see it as a way to get a quick jump ahead to what they want? just another gizmo to get on with what they want.

The Yijing actually gave you quite a lot of advice about what you need to achieve in yourself to open the way to what you want.

24 > 41 was not positive, I am afraid, in terms of getting back together at that point. You were advised to:

You must return to your own centre. Get centred within yourself ? you had no balance or self possession at that point.

To do this you were advised to strip away your old ideas and desires. You were told you could achieve this by contemplating all that has gone in this relationship and what happened to get you to this point.

Line two advised you to let the matter rest and the way to re-possess yourself would become clear.

This would herald a time where you would feel decreased (loss) but this in turn would open another way for you?.


62 Told you not a lot could be achieved at that time. It warned you not to make a fuss or draw attention to yourself by action in terms of getting back together as this would only attract problems and no good would come of it.

You were then at a standstill - the way was blocked ? nothing could be achieved to progress forward and to get back together.

This is markedly different ?

42 This is a time of development and things getting much better? now is the time to pour in more energy? get active.

This is a time is sudden change I yourself and pushing forward in what you want to achieve.

The potential to move forward is striping away old preconceptions, values and beliefs about the relationship or the other and letting a fresh perception emerge.

Line one ? You need an idea or a plan to achieve this too? But go forward and you will succeed.

Line two ? The next stage after line one ? Enjoy it you are successful.

Line 5 advises you to be open hearted and benevolent (not judgemental or grasping or clinging) ? This will connect the other person to you strongly.

The resulting situation is one where you really have got all you wanted and more. You should now try to move forward with a direction and purpose ? that will increase the benefit and having.


Well there you have it ? I tried to write a little clearer this time ?but writing clearer diminishes the depth? sorry.

There is a dramatic difference in your second reading ? So you might like to know that I checked it and the Yijing confirmed both its correctness and my interpretation.

Seems the window of time opened ? or did you attend to some of those inner issues and open it yourself?

This must have been very hard for you? I am very glad all bodes well now.

Perhaps you could make a shortcut to this page and let me know how things go - sometime ? that helps me?

Novice, only a minute to answer so I'll be really brief.

It appears the Yi is saying for you to lower your expectations, bring them down to earth, return to your own inner peace. As a side note: that is what tends to attract members of the opposite sex anyway, or people in general.
