Hi everyone - its been a while since I have been here due to many health problems. This Friday coming I am scheduled for a surgery to remove another disc from my neck (I have 2 replaced discs from 20 years ago). I am really scared, as I am certainly not as brave as I was when I was younger. I had to think very carefully as how to place my question to the IChing -

"Will my surgery results help with my pain, and mobility problems I have had, especially with regards to near normal functionality of my right arm and hand?"

I received
47.6 - 6

My interpretation
47 is Exhaustion, specifically line 6 perfectly describes just how much despair I have, and also terrified that this surgery may cause more complications, possibly because of fear I cannot think positively. I quite honestly picture myself entangled in vines right now. Yet this line also speaks of good fortune if I go forward?
the resulting Hexagram 6 - Conflict / Stress scares me. I interpret this as having complications. On a positive note, perhaps it will take a while to recover?

I would really appreciate your feedback.

I hope its alright that I tagged some lovely people, I met quite a while back when I used the Yi regularly.

The vines that hold one back are easily brushed aside, it's a very clear answer. Looking at Hilary's translation from wiki

'Confined by trailing creepers.
Feels uneasy and unsettled.
Says 'acting - regret'.
With regret, setting forth, good fortune.'

and also Wilhelm as I like Wilhelm on this

'She is oppressed by creeping vines,
She moves uncertainly and says, "Movement brings remorse."
If one feels remorse over this and makes a start,
Good fortune comes.'

So this line describes your state of mind. You feel hesitant, oppressed by doubts, but Yi says actually there's nothing there to hold you back. If you were trying to make your way through an alley and some trailing plants hung in your way you would simply push them aside, that's how small any resistance to your plans are.

Yi is saying you need not doubt the surgery, you can easily brush aside doubts about it and you will.

You asked

"Will my surgery results help with my pain, and mobility problems I have had, especially with regards to near normal functionality of my right arm and hand?"

Yi takes a shortcut and says 'no need to doubt this surgery, go ahead'.

It does sound terrifying so I sympathise though I do think you have a tremendously clear and reassuring answer here.

I don't think you can tag people unless you are a member of CC

Oh tag away see if it works, if it does good. However I don't think it does but I could be wrong.

Its ok, your answer has relieved me so and put my mind at rest. Honestly I have been freaking out for days, and after I read your answer, the stress was completely lifted. I am so grateful.

Update
I love to read a reading with an update so I decided to do that here.

I get confused a lot about the related hexagram, whether its an outcome or something that's occurring during the time of the reading. Turns out in many occasions for my readings it was both.

My op was a success, extremely painful, a lot of crying, but I did it, got home safely 3 days later. And was in bed for another month. Totaling almost 4 months of being in bed.
This now making it 3 disc replacements in my neck. (Due to a bad car accident when I was young).

After the first op, years back when the first 2 disc replacements occurred, I went through extremely bad depression which included suicidal tendencies. Long story short group counselling and therapy then were a god send.

2 weeks after this surgery - BAM! - I went through the worst bout of depression I had ever, ever experienced. I couldn't eat, non stop crying and sobbing, no sleeping. I kept saying over and over ' I've had enough, can't do it anymore!'.

Mum stays with me, as she is sick also and I looked after her, so the roles were reversed for a while, and I consider myself extremely lucky I was not alone, otherwise I do fear the worst would have happened.
Since Monday I have been in constant therapy, its working so far, I did ask the Yi about the outcome of the therapy and I did get 39.5 - 15 which is extremely clear, that I was in huge trouble and friends came to my rescue.

But that being my 47.6 - 6 story.

Be safe everyone.

Goggle "happiness frequency". It will take you to youtube and videos that play a specific tone. Really helps.
