Hello everyone,
I have this problem going for years. I'm a college student and need advice on interpreting the following hexagram to make major decision soon, hoping to end this agony.

First a little background. 6 years ago I've chosen a hard major, first time living on my own far from my hometown. It took me a hard time to adapt and I wanted to quit the first time but I didn't. After successfully adjusting and passing the exams I entered into a relationship with a guy which ended bad and left me traumatized. After the whole break up thing I left my studies on hold to get better. But it's been almost 2 years, and I'm not using the break up as a excuse, but this waiting didn't give me a decision whether to quit college or keep going. I really want to get a degree, I thought about changing major but can't decide anything. Now I'm not sure that this is the right major for me but I can't seem to give up. So, two times I went into the same drowning water, don't want to go to there a third time. I'm trying to be honest with myself. I really need to make a decision and move somewhere. Thanks.

What should I do about the whole situation?

49. Change

Line 1:

Fastened using the leather of a yellow ox.
Things are too fixed to change them.

Line 4:

Aversion goes away.
There is trust in the change of command.
Good fortune.
There is sufficient trust in the changed rules and the way things are ruled. Initial resistance will go away. Things go well.

Line 5:

A senior person's tiger transformation.
It is not yet occupied.
Have confidence.
A transformation that requires braveness, strength and experience. One isn't there yet. Have confidence.
( I think the lines are positive here and talking about change)

Hexagram is changing to:

15. Humbleness

Humbleness.
Progressing.
The noble one brings things to a conclusion.
Being humble. This helps bringing things to a good end, as one is not in a position to make demands. There is progress.

What should I do about my current studies?

50. The Caldron

Line 3:

An ear of the caldron breaks off,
so that one is stopped from moving it.
The fat pheasant is not eaten.
Right then the rain wanes.
Aversion, but eventually good fortune.

There is a problem that stops one from moving the result of the transformation to where it is needed. Things will go well again, this situation is just a temporary setback.

( I'm not sure about the line 3. Is it telling me to quit or keep going? Either way, good fortune? Wing: Your unique talents are not being used because they are not recognized. This may be due to erroneous thinking on your part. Maintain a positive attitude about yourself, and things will change for the better.)

Hello Taia. I'm not sure, what are the two times you went into drowning water? It sounds like you started school, had a bad breakup (1st time?) and now ... want advice to move forward?

Taia,
I think what it says, "what should i do about the whole situation", is simply to take a drastic, decisive action. To have faith in changing the mandate, to transform into a tiger without diving first. It makes sense, to advise someone who is crippled by indecision: JUST DECIDE!! :)
It can be possible that whatever you decide, the outcome will not be so bad as the worry you have now. You know the expression "throw caution to the wind"?

About the second question, 50 line 3.
You may not be in the best position to make good use of the resources and opportunities for study which are available to you right now. Just like the pheasant can not be eaten because the handle is broken.

I hope everything turns out OK :)

So the first time I went into drowning water was when I moved to another city to live on my own. I wanted to quit school and I didn't and it was not as bad as the second time( when I had the breakup). So now I have to make a decision about school( to continue or not) and don't want there to be a third time wanting to quit.

Today I asked different questions about the situation.

What is the outcome if I continue with current studies?

19. Approach > 60

Line 5:

Informed approach.
Proper for a great ruler.
Good fortune.
Approaching in a situation where one is informed beforehand. This is appropriate for someone in a leading position. Things go well.

Hexagram 19 I think says act. But not sure on line 5. I don't think it's good. I found this explanation. One does not return because they do not want to be abused again. It's talking about abuse. Maybe it means about not indulging in some excess.

If I commit to my decision to stick to school can I make it trough?

2. Land

Land.
A foundation for progress.
Beneficial is the persistence of a mare.
The noble one has a goal to move to.
Being confused at first,
later acquiring mastery.
It is beneficial that companionship is gained in the southwest,
companionship is lost in the northeast.
Calm persistence brings good fortune.

There is a new potential, for you to develop. At first you'll not know your way, but you'll gain a handle on the situation and eventually master it. Just calmly proceed. It is beneficial to make partners and allies, and not to move on with people who have different interests.
(At the original place and time of the I Ching, allies were in the southwest, territory they wanted to conquer was in the northeast.)

(No changing lines.)

My thoughts about hexagram 2 is not to force things just be receptive what comes to you. Don't rush and don't expect.
