I've had it!

I concentrated and asked, What can be expected if I cease consultation of the Yi Jing?

47.5.6 changing to 64.

The way I interpret it, it is something I personally need to do, regardless of regrets about doing so. It helped me realize I've become weirdly dependent on the Yi Jing for action. The more I work with the text, the more I realize how much I have to learn about it. It is truly an astounding and rewarding thing, but not at all something to take for granted, which I admit I have done too often.

In a way I feel more intuitive from having consulted the Yi Jing, but at the same time, I feel I have grown hesitant to trust that intuition without much--too much--internal deliberation. In fact, frequent Yi Jing consultations have in a way replaced simple introspection for me, or at least, the "divination habit" has become a catalyst for initiating that introspection, often when it is not really necessary.

For now, I think I will put the book(s) away. It was a very interesting reading, so I thought I'd post it. Thanks for being an insightful web community. I haven't posted here much, but I've certainly got a lot of useful advice through this site/forum.:bows:

Go for it. In my case my own intuition works much better for me that any other divination tool. Just meditate on whatever question you have in mind. And voila. You might just get the answer your seek.
I think I should do more of it too, and not go running after things or people who seemingly can help me :)

Good For You!

:bows::bows:phew! So much to say, so little space.

You describe very neatly the dilemma of expanding awareness via (any?) divinatory system while creating co-dependency on them. At the end of "The Tempest", Shakespeare has Prospero break his staff and drown his Book "deeper than did ever plummet sound . . ." so that he is able to say in the epilogue : "Now my charms are all o'erthrown, And what strength I have's mine own . . . " in other words, dependent no longer on Magic.

I wish you a similarly sound future of self-trusting and aware consciousness, the magic of which we are born to but which slips from us all too easily, or for which we increasingly require the intercession of some model.

In saying this I mean no disrespect to the I Ching. Of all divinatory systems it seems, to me at any rate, the closest we have to that non-physical manifestation and reflection of human mind. It also encompasses an incredible fusion of moral tenets with life intuition.

However, we sometimes have to stand alone and in so doing, we may lose much but can be open to new ways and approaches. Should we all give up the I Ching? Certainly not; for some it is The Way. And we would lose Hilary Barrett, a dedicated, insightful and very kind exponent! Not to be contemplated!

Finally, how apposite was it that the I ching should give you that particular reading! It is wise beyond our ability to comprehend. Some irony there, I think.

Best wishes,

David:bows:

I don't think you need to give up your consultations, you just need to be less dependent upon the I Ching, use your own judgement for a change, its so simple.

I doing readings for others everyday, but I hardly ever use the I Ching or tarot to ask any personal questions as I don't need to. I just think what is the best course and the answer comes to me and away I go, quick and simple.

The I Ching is a simple catalyst that triggers one's intuition, its a prop, like a walking stick, so its there if you really need it but in your daily life let your own intuition automatically kick in without the props, leave the walking stick at home in future.

Too Much Hesitation

I can understand your frustration. I struggled with the same feelings, until i learned
to use a rock-crystal pendulum. Since then i receive straight answers through the use of this tool and a dictionary. Give it a try : the method is explained at www.3deedit.be
