I asked Yi, "What would be the outcome of us [my husband and I] moving to X?" and got the answer 30.1.3.6 into 16.

Not a simple answer!

The back story is we are thinking of moving to a remote and non-gentrified part of our city in order to be more financially stable. We can't afford to buy a place in the area where we rent now, but we could in this distant area. The downsides are: it's not as safe as where we live now, it's far from our friends and family, and I would have a very long commute (more than an hour each way by public transit). However, we would be really financially stable.

30.1 seems to show (correctly) that we're in the early stages of this plan and this move, and nothing's been determined yet-- "The footsteps run criss cross." and there's a risk of mistakes.

30.3-- here's where it gets trickier. This seems to be showing the move as something inevitable, like old age--no? So we can mourn it, but it's happening no matter what (we can't stay in the fun part of town where we live now and also live within our means/not worry about the future), and in general we should neither be overly strict/glum, nor too freewheeling.

Any other thoughts on this line? Are we being too strict (yielding to melancholy) by making this extreme move? We could make it work in our current neighborhood, but we would be renting forever probably.

The reason I'm leaning towards the "too strict" warning in interpreting 30.3 is because I also received 30.6, which clearly and directly warns about being overly severe in punishment. From the Wilhelm commentary (which has served me well for years): "For asceticism that is too strict, like sentences of undue severity, fails in its purpose." In this case we are being extremely strict with ourselves. This is the most extreme move we could make short of leaving our city entirely. The idea is to be able to cover all bills with one income, and save the rest, and this does that, but at the price of time and social isolation. (And safety, to some degree, though it's really not so extremely much worse than where we are now--it just lacks the added fun stuff.)

This whole reading changes to 16, which I think is simply an expression of our current mood-- we're really enthusiastic about this plan (and perhaps not examining all of its flaws, due to our fresh enthusiasm.)

Can anyone help with this? Or have insights? It would be a big life change, and while I don't want to muddy the waters with multiple castings, I am struggling to parse all of this one.

I'd be really grateful! Thank you in advance!

Oh dear, I followed up just now with a direct question about buying an apartment for the price we can afford with no worry ("What would come of buying an apartment for under X dollars?") which by default means this distant neighborhood, and received:

32.3.4 into 7.

That feels like a thud!

32.3-- we're not maintaining our virtue...? We're rushing this, we're not as ready as we think...?

32.4-- no game in the field. Maybe we can't find one that's suitable for that price (they're all fixer-uppers), or get a mortage? My husband makes more than me, but as a freelancer, which makes mortgage-getting a real difficulty. A freelancer friend of ours just went through with it and ended up needing a family cosigner for the loan (not an option for us).

Changing to 7. Seems like we need to regroup, organize ourselves, and rethink this plan entirely?

For clarity-- I cast the 30.1.3.6 -> 16 reading a few days ago.

Thank you, all!

OK, one more. This last reading spurred me to think in a less extreme direction. We can also afford to buy in a closer, safer neighborhood that we have a couple of friends in already. It would be a 45 minute commute for me instead of 1+ hours. Our monthly payment would be slightly higher but still much less than our current rent.

I asked, "Ok, what would come of us spending a bit more for X neighborhood?" and received 49.4 into 63. Radical change that's believed in (line 4) leading to something that feels already determined (63).

This reading made me breathe a sigh of relief and feel perhaps we'd be on a better track in looking in this area.

Still open to all insights! Thank you!
