Line 0.4 changing in Hex 30 is no good fortune for its holder. Being 30 is a source of light ,warmth and awareness it appears lovely to recieve and most difficult to release. It appears the fire of this relationship has gone cold.

Line 0.4 changes to an oman of ill, being seen in this light it is burning, dieing and throwing out.

Hex 22, appears to continue to say to you know you limit, know your boundries, understand the obstacle which prevents you from seeing what is in front of you, and asks you if it is not better to stop and think, do not move ahead until you are prepaired to look deeper into what part you may have played in this deteration of the relationship?

Not a very pretty sight and hopefully you will overcome what has come between you and your desire.

Perhaps you care too much? He was frightened?

Perhaps I do care too much, that doubt has never crossed my mind. It seems he always has a tendency to get frightened... it just seems so odd that this would come up not a few days after my last reading which was so great.

perhaps I am forcing him to do too much right now? more then he is capable of doing being that he is so far away? but if that is the case then what is it that I should do?

ooh friends of clarity!! please help me! I don't want to lose the man i love!

Back to a very old song....It is better to loved and lost than to never have loved at all...and I realize this is little consolation. I know from experience things of this type can change back and fourth just as easly as the weather. Keep a fire burning but do not fear to shelter from your tempest. Best wishes and my the gods look kindly on your world.

Tis so true! As of last night things have been smoothed out. I was over-reacting and being my pushy pushy paranoid self.

I don't know who but someone out there is looking kindly on my world.

Thanks a bunch,

Annie

Hi Annie,

I haven't been around in several days, but I actually have thought of you. I know what it's like to be really anxious about something. It's good to see from your last post that things have settled down.

This is a really exciting reading, though, in my opinion
. I'll explain why - after I state clearly that I nonetheless wish the unpleasantness that led you to it HAD NEVER HAPPENED. I have much less than infinite patience with chronic unpleasantness.

Here's the situation that I got hexagram 30 line 4 about. It bears an eerie resemblance to yours - the worry about losing someone, and the end result of (your words) over-reacting and being paranoid.

My neighbor's pure-black cat had gone out on the patio with the other cats last Halloween evening, and disappeared from the face of the earth. Now Neighbor knows better; she ALWAYS before had grounded Black Cat inside the apartment around Halloween, but this was an unprecedentedly stressful period in Neighbor's life and she just spaced out. It didn't really even register with her like it should have that it WAS Halloween.

Well you can imagine how Neighbor felt, and me too, because I had cat-sat for these kitties many times and felt close to them. We assumed the worst "Black Cat + up-to-no-good-Halloweeners" scenarios, mitigated only by the fact that Neighbor had seen no actual sign of any Halloweeners that night.

The other important fact here is that Black Cat has a hyperthyroid condition, meaning that if she's without her medication her metabolism will run amok, resulting in dangerously high heartrate, rampant weight loss, and eventual death.

So when all attempts by Neighbor to find Black Cat or information about her produced no results in over a week, we were almost without hope.

I did a reading ("What happened to Black Cat?") and got hexagram 30 line 4. "Its coming is sudden; It flames up, dies down, is thrown away." Well now, could there BE a better description of a creature dying from overwrought metabolism??

I thought, then AND now, that this was possibly the clearest and most on-point reading I had EVER gotten.

Except that it was TOTALLY WRONG.

Two full weeks after Black Cat's disappearance, Neighbor's phone rang. The woman on the other end, who lived 5 miles away, said, 'I have a 'Black Cat' here, is she yours?" It turned out that the woman had been feeding Black Cat, assuming she was one of the neighborhood's usual strays, until it dawned on her that she WASN'T one of the regulars, and oh, is that a collar and tag glinting from around her neck?

Yes, Black Cat was a bit the worse for wear, but in WAY better shape than her hyperthyroidism and age would have predicted (we knew what 2 weeks of no medication would have reasonably predicted.)

So it appears we now have two really good data points showing that hexagram 30 line 4 can mean "You're overreacting." (Literally, even: "flames up, dies down" in the chemistry sense could easily mean a 'REACTION' that is 'OVER the top' or excessively intense.)

I still think Yi was being really mean, though. Giving that line about a missing cat with a hyperthyroid condition, for heaven's sake. *mutter mutter grumble grumble*

Lisa,

Hi hun. Wow that just shows how confusing Yi can be which is why I am so thankful to have all of you here!

I am very happy to hear about neighbor's black cat. I would have been so distraught and acted the same way. In fact I had a similiar thing happen with a cat many years ago - although mine actually had been hit by a car & was hiding under the house I lived in for a couple days before I found him. I went from door to door, called every vet hospital and about lost my mind in fits of tears.... he turned out fine and just had to get a cast for a while.

I do believe now that it's just as you and I both said. I am so incredibly sensitive when it comes to the ones I love. I got that from my Grandma, we're worriers and overly emotional drama queens.

He's so much like my Grandfather who is very introverted, silent yet strong. old fashion and stubborn. funny and fun-loving.

It's a true image of ying and yang. My grandma & I are both exact opposites of our loves & it's [for me more so since i am only in the first 3 yrs of our life together & my grandma & grandpa have just celebrated 45 yrs] difficult but all that more rewarding.

Did that even make sense?

thanks again lisa,

Annie

Ooh I'm trying to get away from my standard Yi Question - "show me an image of..." I never really thought of asking where or when etc... LOL

Can you recommend some good Yi books for me to pick up?

Hi Annietyme,

You know, as much as I've seen the I Ching give really wonderful answers (which I have) and as much as I'm happy and excited to have a line meaning clarified (which I am), right now I am also so upset and even angry I don't know what to do.

The more I think about it, the more I think that giving hex 30 line 4 in response to a question about a missing cat WITH A HYPERTHYROID CONDITION is just way BEYOND THE PALE.

This was an isolated situation. It's not as if either I or Neighbor were in the habit of being (in your words) "worriers and overly emotional drama queens" on the general subject of Black Cat. She had DISAPPEARED for heaven's sake, and (once more with feeling) SHE HAS A HYPERTHYROID CONDITION!

And in those circumstances, Yi reasonably expects a person to magically know that 'flames up, dies down, is thrown away' REALLY means 'calm down, you're overreacting, the cat will come home safely'?!?!

Okaaaay - and by the way, Black Cat isn't a cat at all, she's a CHIMPANZEE!! And I'm really a 95 year old great-grandfather of 6 instead of a 40-ish single female!

Sigh. As I'm sure is perfectly obvious to everyone by now, I'm VERY capable of being both a worrywart AND a drama queen, or possibly just a horrible irredeemable evil piece of human scum because I actually WORRY about worrisome situations instead of going directly into some Zen-like state of calm, do not pass GO, do not collect $200.

Not to mention, and then I'll shut up and wait for everyone to thrash me for screaming at the I Ching - fairly recently during an attempt to apologize to Yi for said screaming, I asked something like "How do you feel or react when I scream and yell at you in questions?"

Bless Yi's heart - really. The answer I got back essentially said "Don't worry, it's okay, you have to vent somehow."

Wow. And then - stuff like this 30.4 thing comes up.

As I said, I'm just really confused and upset right now - this ties right into that other thread about Yi misleading us, and how can we ever trust a thing the I Ching says if we don't know if or when it's on the level or not.

And now I'm sure the Universe will have some choice smiting-of-Lisa to deliver, just to teach me a lesson about appreciating the blessings in my life. (Which is also very true - I really do have some amazing blessings, and I do lose sight of them quite often in the midst of chaotic messes.)

Annie this ia very good news. I am happy it has come full circle, as it does most of the time.
I leave you with only one more thought.

"Your life and your love are only as strong as you willingness to show your true intent to another." "How the other responds to your honesty is a true measure of their feelings."

Annie,

Oh dear...sorry...the bit about the chimpanzee and the 90 yr old man was 100 percent undiluted sarcasm. I'm accustomed to my own sarcasm but for the sanity of everyone else I'll have to start enclosing it in tags, like <sarcasm>Sarcastic comment, blah blah.</sarcasm>

That, or just STOP BEING a sarcastic pain in the butt. What a novel concept! Um, right.

I hope you have a good weekend, too, Annie. Are you going to be able to see Suisse this weekend (I hope?) I can't even imagine being separated so much from your love - no wonder you worry and ask Yi about it. You just want to be near him and talking to Yi is a way to feel a little closer.

At least, I suspect that's exactly how I'd feel and exactly what I'd do in those circumstances.

Bless,

Lisa

Lisa...

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with 30.4. I just learned so much from reading it. I really believe experience is the best teacher especially where the Yi is concerned, and I find I benefit the most from reading others' experiences. That's just one of the reasons I love this forum.

Annie...

I'm so glad things worked out for you. It must be difficult communicating being apart from each other and under the stress you're both experiencing in your situation. I suspect, however, your love for each other is strong enough to weather this storm.

Love,

Val

Lisa,

I thought so much about the sarcasm but I just wasn't 100% - no worries.

I do wish I could see my Suisse this weekend but sadly no... I have a flight out to spend a week with him from the 1st to the 6th of September. I am hoping we can do a repeat of our last yrs labor day weekend canyon tour. it was the best vacation either of us every had and that is definitely something I would like for us to start doing on an annual basis.

I am hopeful that he will come out before then but he is [supposedly] about to buy me a ring so he is saving money as much as he can. If all goes as we have discussed he has a deadline of Oct 14th [a year to the day when we will to marry] to propose.

It kills me being so far away [over a thousand miles] but we've all ready been together nearly 2.5 yrs and we wish to spend the rest of our lives together so it's worth the wait... yes?

Thank you again Lisa for everything. I will definitely see you around the boards more often, you are very right, talking to the Yi when I can't talk to him is indeed comforting.

Val,

Yes I do believe no matter how hard it is, our love is strong enough to weather almost any storm... *crosses fingers*

All my love,

Annie
