Pocassin-she's not really that conceptual that she has to do that. Anyway she wouldn't want to.
I didn't know Picasso wished he had stayed more traditional, I never heard that.

soo-I like the zappa quote about not living your own life.

trojina-yeah thanks for weighing in on 1.6. I like that you said "she has to come to earth in terms of how much recognition...". I thought it was pretty good reading especially to get hexagram1 and then line 5.
yeah, she might have been working too hard there. yesterday she took a day trip and called her friend and she felt better. I showed her everyone's comments and sooo's quotes and I think she feels better.
but I am glad you all think she should continue cause she was feeling bad about herself.
thanks again!!!

In fact, Picasso apologized for his betrayal of traditional art and regretted his transgressions.

And Dali apologized for being a surrealist.

I have but one regret and that is the public are now so inundated with reproductions of my work that they have ceased to look at the real thing. My wish would be to have the full attention of the viewer for more than a few minutes. With an open mind and heart, they may find themselves enriched by the process of seeing. - Picasso

Picasso was capable of creating classic and fine art in his very early years. Why then did he abandon the conventional to break apart convention? What called him to "go Picasso?"

An old artist friend of mine once told me, it is an artist's obligation to suffer. Her comment stunned and stung me, yet inside, I knew her words were true.

this is a quote from trojina from a recent thread about 1.5.6>34 which I think sums up my daughters experience at her art residency.

"Looking at 1.5.6>34 broadly (34 as yin pattern) I think perhaps you need to accept the true dynamic power of your own choices and live them.

So now you know those other people's views were utterly irrelevant and that you chose this relationship however it's going, then what ? What will you do next ? I mean 1>34 Heaven's Great Power, gives me the sense of a will (34) that can harness and ride the dynamic power of heaven (hex 1).

I don't think you could get a less helpless or hopeless answer than this.

So what's your choice ? That's all you need to think about. "

She indeed did choose to make art that is not representational and more intellectual than visual so of course theres a popularity consequence there.
Also she ended up making good friends there but not the group that seemed so popular at first glance. so both things that bothered her there , popularity, worked themselves out according to her choices and personality.

Thanks for the help on this thread everyone
Yeah, it really worked out fine for her after a shaky beginning
It's harder to update for another person but I think that the reading described her whole experience there and it was positive all in all. Some negative stuff but it worked out.
