Proposal Hexagram 7 unchanging

I live in a place that has limited opportunities for my kind of work. I have a lot of experience and affinity with children as does my supervisor but mostly the other casuals that work there don't and I think the children don't have the positive experience and help they could have.
A lot of the children are 'troubled' coming from foster homes and broken homes and the environment which I work in can become very erratic.
I would like a permanent job there because I feel with my experience and affinity with children and the supervisors' wonderful way we could make a great team and change this environment to one of such positivity and potentially attract more children to the centre which would in turn create more jobs.
However I hesitate to put this to my bosses because there is the risk they may not like to hear what I think and I lose any chance of working there period.

How would it benefit me to put the proposal I have in mind to my bosses

Hexagram 7 unchanging

I think this is saying it's a good idea to just to keep learning and stay with the present challenge (having to just be there when I'm offered a shift) and continue to get acquainted with things that way - unless and until things change naturally.

Hm, I personally don't see Hexagram 7 unchanging here as an indicator not to propose.
If you have an army to navigate, you have one of the biggest powers one can have. You can be victorious or you can go and lose in a big way. It depends a lot on you and your ability to lead.
If you are already convinced, that you can't persuade them, then it's a bad condition. -- Cause the right mindset seems to be crucial in here.

... why do you fear that they don't like what you say?

Not fear, just a potential risk. From my observation and experience so far it appears they are looking for Indians rather than more Chiefs, so to speak. They've acknowledged my experience and positive work as a role model but haven't offered me anymore work over others and are actually trying to find a suitable trainee for a position there.

I do not know you, so please don't mind if I am wrong. But regarding Hex7 in the situation you are talking about, it could also mean that you should become more confident about your great abilities, gather your forces and put them where they are needed and appreciated.

Funny you say that blackmilk I was thinking this afternoon about how much my abilities are going to waste but there's really nowhere else here that I can offer them. I tried taking my skills elsewhere last year and that turned into one disaster after another. Thanks for your thoughts I will keep thinking on it....

Oh so sorry to hear that.
I hope it gets better as soon as possible. I don't know what's wrong, but from Hex7 I guess it could really be helpful to concentrate on the issue HOW you gather your forces, so that you can use them like a army fighting for you instead against you. Because the potential is there, undoubtedly. Wish you all the best!

Ahuh I have got an army of people in an organisation who can support me in potentially acquiring the position I'm after....so good call blackmilk, cheers

This is the kind of unchanging-hexagram reading I just hate. :eek:uch: What - exactly - is Yi saying?

Oracle: 'The Army: with constancy. Mature people, good fortune. No mistake.'

As a direct answer - how would it benefit you - the omen words are "good fortune," so that seems encouraging. But "good fortune" also seems to have conditions - "constancy" and "mature people." I'm guessing, but "constancy" might mean this isn't something you'll be able to accomplish quickly - it will require keeping at it. Slight variation - you'll have more success if you go at this steadily, perhaps rather than thinking you'll be able to convince people all at once? Maybe just "this proposal makes good sense on the face of it" won't be enough, you'll have to work to convince them?

"Mature people" - I mean, I'm sure you'll be mature about it! Another possibility is as Blackmilk said, that a key is getting other people to support you.

It might be important to note that hexagram 7 comes after hexagram 6, Arguing. You know all this already, I'm sure, but you'll have to get beyond the "this isn't right! :hissy:" stage, to (as Hilary says in her book) "organis[ing] a way to change it." She makes the point that the strategy here can't be just "grievance," "indignation" or reaction-to. 7 is organized and methodical in its goal-orientation. Perhaps another word would be a highly "professional" approach.

Another thought - an army does well to "know its enemy." Maybe it will help your strategy if you observe and think about why they're doing what they're doing, especially the things you see as silly and counter-productive? If you can first understand it, possibly including the history of how and why it got that way, you can come up with better strategies to try changing it?

Hm...I just looked up the "contrast" hexagrams - the various things hexagram 7 is not. Those are:

Shadow - the hexagram counting back 7 from the end (64-63-62-61-60-59-58). It represents exactly the wrong way to think about it - in this case, hexagram 58, Opening / Joyous Communication. Negotiating, exchanging views.

Pair - the hexagram formed by flipping your hexagram upside down - hexagram 8, Seeking Union. Finding natural affinities, getting support.

Inverse - the hexagram formed by changing all the yin lines to yang and all the yang lines to yin - hexagram 13, Creating Harmony / People in Harmony / Fellowship with Men. Working together as a group?

...is there a theme here? All the contrast hexagrams seem to about communication and working with people. How could that be the wrong approach - and yet here Yi is, saying so.

Is there any chance that you could just start doing some of what you're proposing, by yourself? Leadership by example, "showing" rather than "telling"? Let them watch what you're doing and see for themselves that it works? (Am guessing wildly, of course - don't know if that's even possible.)

Or...maybe you're in the "strategizing/organizing" stage? This is even more confusing, since 7 also means "getting things done." That certainly includes planning, but it doesn't stop there...

I think you're right on track here Liselle. Thinking more about it...more information and strategy is needed to get what I want and what I believe the centre seriously needs. I think I have to give them more time to get to know me so they can see who they're working with and also the how the way in which my leadership works.

The best way is to impress the parents by speaking to them and getting them to see their children like you and talk about you when they go home and hopefully they pass it onto the bosses. Well that's one of the strategies!
