pursuing knee treatment? 46.3 -> 7

I just read another person's reading about a strange dream that resulted in these two hexagrams. My question is completely different though. I have a piece of something (meniscus, they say) floating around in my knee, but i'm in a third world country now with local medical insurance. The drs advise me to have arthroscopic surgery. I'd like to pursue treatment, only not *here*, but back in the States this spring. However, my insurance there is out of pocket and (it seems) risky to use as it requires pre-approval and reimbursement after the fact pending a list of prerequisites...

I asked the Yi to show me a picture of me pursuing treatment in the US this spring.
I got 46.3 and then 7. Figuring I hadn't said the magic words, I asked again, adding in "show me a picture of my FINANCIAL situation if i..." And the *same hexes* popped up!

I take this as neither here nor there, neither good nor bad, no harm no foul, take it or leave it. There's nothing about "it is not fortunate to cross the great plain" or whatever -- no huge warning here. That line 3 seems sort of a blase type of line. Do others agree? In other words, the Yi isn't saying I'll be damaged financially if i do this (which is my concern). Given that fact, this changing line seems rather...weak. No?

I wonder if the I Ching is saying that everything will work out fine if you choose to take that approach but maybe none of this is really necessary? "Pushing up into an empty city" sounds like by the time you reach the U.S. whatever is floating around in your knee is gone. Perhaps the medical care available where you are now is adequate for this operation, or perhaps there is some other approach that would heal your knee and make the operation unnecessary?
Hmmm..How about if you have the operation where you are now with your local insurance. If things didn't go as you wish 100% could you then have a little fixer upper in the U.S.?

hi Rosada,

The question of necessity is at the forefront of my mind too, in fact. The operation as it is is risky -- that is, the "reviews" for this sort of thing are mixed, and I know people who have had it and say they are worse off than before -- and others who swear by it. It's not the kind of thing that once you ahve it done it can be 'undone' -- and given my activity level (with this injury) I am not willing to become a cripple (which is what I risk basically) by addressing it. ANy surgery is risky, doctors aren't 100% foolproof, they're only human too (my father is one). Once they remove whatever they want to remove here, you can't put it back in. So, a "touch up" wouldn't work technically. The other issue is financially -- my insurance in the US is totally unrelated to whatever is done here, and I wouldn't be able to get a "fixer upper" approved. I would have to start the full process there (in US) from the very first consultation "my knee hurts" -- keep bugging them to say it hurts (go back 3 weeks later), get an XRay, get a referral, have a specialist see it, and so on. It's time consuming and expensive. And unfortunately the US wont look at whatever diagnosis I have here == they will insist on doing their own via their own tests. (Not that you need all these details but as add'l info.)

But back to the reading... the idea of another approach that would make the operation unnecessary. that would be great if it were so! The problem is I want to know if by avoiding surgery I'm doing additional damage with every step I take and so far no doctor can tell me that without going in (or doing an MRI which for the life of me I cannot get any of them to do...even after more than 16 hours in various appointments here in backwards country!) I have lived with this mess for 10 yrs now and finally decided to look into it bc I'm sick of being less than 100% mobile and (as mentioned) concerned I'm doing more damage with each day that passes. I don't know that there are other approaches, but i would *love* to avoid surgery, that's for sure! :)

I googled "meniscus" and got a whole page of websites including one at the top that claims they have some kit they can sell you that heals the problem without surgery.aidmymeniscus.com. I suspect you have already looked at all this, but if there is a chance you haven't I thought I'd send it on.

Hex 46.3 > 7

This says that the operation will be easy to obtain, that everything will go very nicely indeed and that there will be no problems either healthwise or financially. Pushing up into an empty city suggests that you will meet with no problems in your quest to have an operation to sort out your knee. It does not suggest that the operation is unnecessary. Hex 7 calls for perseverance and determination to get on with the job, so make your plans and carry them through and everything will turn out okay.

wow, ladies, thanks.

Rosada -- I did the same search(es) last night (!!) and saw that. I actually saw two "kits", one of which was ultrasound therapy or something. I'm skeptical, although will consider it.

Willowfox -- that sounds promising! Perhaps I'll start with the call to the insurance company once I arrive in the US. If they approve, I'll start the process (if they cover it, no reason not to) and go from there...I can always opt out at any point.

Thanks everyone! :)

I'm inclined to go with Rosadas view. In my experience 46.3 has always turned out that theres no obstacle to the plan, no barriers to get where you want to go, but when you get there you wonder if there was any point - the city is empty.

Trojan, verrrrry interesting. If that's the case, it supports the "i dont need surgery" point of view (which would be nice and...far cheaper!) I need an MRI done to know for sure and after that perhaps I can make a decision... I'm not a big proponent of being cut open just for the fun of it! :) But I'd also like to put my mind at ease with some more evaluation to know that i'm not doing damage by avoiding treatment. I will report back. Thanks Trojan :)
