Yes obviously it's a different question it's a different thread which you never went back to and instead just posted another thread. It's most unhelpful to do that. As I said in the other thread would you ask someone directions in the street, they tell you and then just walk on without saying thank you ? David, I find that when people who like to portray themselves as left-wing liberals want to express racist attitudes, they often resort to abusive, anti-Muslim statements. It's a convenient way to talk about exactly the same non-white people, without actually mentioning race.

Yeah I mean imagine the destruction that could be listed off allegedly in the name of Christianity. I doubt that would be brought up if someone asked a question about attending church one day.

I was not making a racist, nor an anti-Muslim comment (nor a 'left-wing' comment either). Far from it!

.... when I was a kid, I used to pretend - or 'portray' myself as a Mayan prince, a Viking warrior, or as a space (or undersea) explorer - and though it's a bit odd to admit it, when I was a bit older I'd play air guitar and pretend I was Jimi Hendrix or Jerry Garcia! But now, I am not portraying myself as (nor pretending to be) a left wing liberal. That's who and what I am - I don't need (nor want) to make-pretend.

If someone is not clear of my meaning, they can always just straight-up ask me what I meant (and in the same vein, 'straight-up' does not mean I'm being anti-gay) - and I may decided to respond. That seems a far better approach then just talking about and around what I said, especially when you are misinterpreting what I said, and you are entirely missing the point.

I don't think, having made that very peculiar comment and among many other things, you are well placed to advise people here about the 'better approach' do you.

People have said stuff 'about' what I said; I feel they have misinterpreted what I said and are making it out to be something else than what it is; and they are making lots of assumptions and statements about me - all without ever really asking me what I mean ...

... and so I have responded - without meanness or sarcasm. Take it as you will.

Honestly, David, I think you could probably serve yourself best just by muttering something about sorry for any inadvertent offense caused and then hastily dropping the subject. The second part of the prescription is probably more important than the first.

(Correction) I too suggest - and would appreciate - if you apologized to me for your inadvertent offense - of accusing me of expressing racist attitudes and abusive, anti-Muslim statements - and you now want to stop. I can go with that.

so I'm not understanding the moderation system whereby you come back to argue publicly about it. The decision was already made about this comment and I'm sure it was explained to you why you were suspended.

I'm baffled both by you and the moderation system here. People don't generally get suspended from a forum and then just return a week later to pick up where they left off if the forum owner already made a clear decision about that person's comment.

If you've got any sense you'd just shut up about it.

All this ongoing twaddle about what you meant is irrelevant you were suspended you can't come back and carry on as before.

Mostly, moderation here happens in behind-the-scenes private conversations, to avoid stoking the flames of public arguments, but I can see Trojina's point about the need for something visible, so here goes:

Dfreed was already 'on probation' for aggressive posts when he made the abusive, anti-Muslim post above. As a result, I suspended him for a week. He's back now, and welcome to stay provided he makes no more attacks of any kind on other members.

I'm going to leave this thread unedited, so there's no danger of misrepresenting anyone, and close it.
