Referendum: Britain in or out the EU?

M

I've just asked the Yi "what will be the outcome of the Referendum"?
Hex 63.4 >>49

This is an occasion when I'm not sure whether or not the Yi has answered the question directly. The referendum hasn't got a date yet. It is probably going to be on the 23rd of June. Also negotiations between Britain and the EU are still ongoing. So these two factors might affect the result.
I am still reflecting on this reading to stablish if this is a direct answer OR it is actually reflecting the factors mentioned above. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

"what will be the outcome of the Referendum"?
Hex 63.4 >>49

Line 63.4 can be translated in two main manners:
  • fine silk clothes turn to rags, or
  • the boat leaks while crossing the river, and rags are used for plugging it
Both possibilities describe a crisis. The two current imminent crises are:
  • a financial disaster of most banks, which are all hanging from a thread right now (silk to rags?)
  • a huge refugee crisis in Europe, and the UK which disagrees with EU on the issue (leaking boats?)
My guess is that one of those crises, or both, will become so bad that the situation will not be as it is anymore. Something completely different will happen. A revolution perhaps? This of course might also mean that the UK decide on a revolution and leave the EU. I'm actually leaning more to the conclusion that UK will leave, as 49 describes two women who are not on good terms with each other (symbolising the queen and Merkel..?).

At the moment, I tend to see 63.4 > 49 as a picture of the situation. Doubt and suspicion (EU members disagree on most issues). Silk turning to rags (the EU project of wealth and prosperity turning sour). Boat is leaking (banking crisis looming, unemployment, refugees, social unrest) and repair is only superficial. But 63 can also mean something that has run its course, it can be actually already over. So the backdrop (49) is change. If that is the case, then the reading could be an indication of the outcome (but then I still cannot see which way the referendum would go). Thinking cap on.

Mirian, your view is very plausible. It might just show the current atmosphere of unrest. It's very possible that the outcome is not 'judged' yet, not apparent yet (not even to the i ching). I was just reading the morning news now, and the UK prime minister's words echo what you wrote: "In an uncertain world is this really the time to add a huge new risk to our national and our economic security? I don’t believe that is right for Britain. I believe we are stronger, safer and better off inside a reformed EU". I'm still undecided as to what the answer exactly means myself. 'Reform' could also be another keyword for 49.

That's right Diamanda, there are so many variables at the moment that the referendum result cannot be "seen" yet and the reading is reflecting this uncertainty. I agree with you on 49: it could mean change (out of EU) but also, as you say, remain in a "reformed" EU. To be continued :D

Former finance minister of Syriza, Yanis Varoufaskis recently launched a new platform to reform the EU: Democracy in Europe 25 or DiEM . He is opposed to countries leaving preferring them to work to improve Europe. First press conference: https://youtu.be/BcptJkd87uQ | Website: diem25.org/

I think the reform needed is so huge ... that 49 is particularly appropriate.

Now there is a deal and there is a date.

What should we know about the deal ?
40.2 > 16 The imagery of the foxes seems very appropriate (behind-the-scenes tactics, furtive strategies?)
But the foxes are now in the open, out to be seen.

And the outcome of the referendum (now the deal is out) ?
12.4 > 20 The point of change into a different direction. But there must be a mandate, a calling, leadership. Wilhelm/Baynes mention "orders from above". It feels like there is a strong sense of destiny, not surprisingly as the result will affect generations to come. Still, is this in or out? That's the million pound question.

Totally agree that the foxes are behind-the-scenes tactics.
However in my experience when only this line changes, 16 is the result (more delusion).
So the deal is not what it appears to be.

And the outcome of the referendum (now the deal is out) ?
12.4 > 20
With 20 as resulting hexagram, the outcome has not been decided yet.
Line 12.4 is very interesting here, as its characters have quite a few meanings.

There are orders, no blame (blame = people pursuing separate interests)
There are orders to not separate from EU.
Fields/ranks separate from felicity/welfare.
UK government applies the cuts to the welfare system?

20 - all the above are yet to be reviewed and considered.

Well, 40.2 > doesn't do the deal any favour, does it? And hex 16 adds discredit, being about misplaced expectations and illusion, as you say.

So, voters are getting to a referendum under the order of high ranks (the PM who supports remain? The Brussels authorities? ). The Yi is looking from above (20) :D

Haha, yes, the Yi is overseeing the situation
Very possible that the PM will influence people's opinions very much.

Interesting - 40.2 I always think if this as fox cubs in a clearing plotting the demise of an unsuspecting rabbit ...little do they know that a hunter with a gun is pointing directly at them. There they are happily scheming when ...............!!!!

Just thought that I would add this - it reminds me too of the Jolly Hunter Poem

I saw a jolly hunter...
With a jolly gun
Walking in the country
In the jolly sun.

Jolly old hunter - ended up jolly dead...

Yi answers:
A colossal change is underway!
Hex 49, reform or revolution, influences the boat=the voters, which crosses the river=Referendum.
But the boat leaks=people vote for BREXIT, rags are used for plugging it, to be alert the whole day, there is something suspicious=ELECTORAL FRAUD...
They make it Yes...
Electoral fraud!!!

Very simple: orders from above=Electoral fraud
Hex 20, the "observers" from above will stop the people's will for BREXIT=hex 12.
The result will be an artificial Yes....

Well, since when has ANY referendum truly represented the public's voice? Very few, if any I'd say.

Will Britain leave the European Union?

31.1>49

Not yet. There's much more to be done before that happens. But the momentum is building. But even then I suspect that if and when it does happen it will be Whitehall mandarins following Establishment dictates who decide rather than the British public. Perception management is only useful if you can choose where and when to let loose the lions of emotional energy and channel its influence to waiting "choices." Damn Hegel.

I agree with Topal. As for my own readings, I can only come to the same conclusion.
63.4 > 49
I see 63 as past, decision already made, referendum is only pro forma.
Line 4 representing a structure in decay, and figures in power take measures but it is only cosmetic. So 49 is only a reform, no real change.

12.4 > 20
The transition towards a different direction is again in the hands of dignitaries, as line 4 is far from representing the people, the ordinary folk. And 20 seems too far removed from mundane.

So that's about it, really.

As I'm writing this I have no idea what's happening in the world (I don't watch tv), I just wanted to add my cast on this matter, I'll read the thread/news after.

Britain's membership in EU, what will happen? 13.3.4.6 → 3
Very spot on with h13, Yi :)

I see lines 3 and 4 as a show of strength but nothing really happening for 3 years.
In the end (.6) as this line goes into 49 I think there maybe some change, but not now.
At least for 3 years Britain will have to endure and stay with the other EU folks.
Then there maybe a new beginning indeed (h3).

Very interesting indeed ashteroid. A fellowship that is not quite a fellowship :D And yet, we stick together. Three different readings so far predicting the same result.

Today is officially the start of the campaign towards the Referendum that will decide whether Britain will remain or leave the European Union.
It is such an important decision that it has been compared by some to the Battle of Britain, with ballots instead of Spitfires!

So, an update seemed a good idea then I asked the Yi what the result will be. The Referendum, obviously, is no grey area, either Britain stay or get out.

Here we go -- Hex 15.3 >> 2

Not in a position to take this major task that leaving the EU would represent. More likely to adopt a position of acceptance, more likely to avoid making a bold move with all that entails. Well, not quite a Battle of Britain, I don't think.

Hi

Can you give us the day and hour in your local time when you tossed the coins?

Another one: did you tossed the coins either hoping or fearing any of the 2 options?

Hi, I cannot pinpoint the time I'm afraid. Yesterday in the evening, somewhere between doing the washing up and getting dinner sorted :D. In answer to your question, I do feel that Britain should leave, as I see the EU as an undemocratic entity, whose main beneficiaries are wealthy politicians, corporations and financial institutions ( all of them involved in the campaign to keep Britain in).
I have been using the Yi for such a long time, so I do know how the way we feel about a subject can be reflected on a reading. Reason why I try to keep it straight to the point, as objective as a human being can be and no binge reading is allowed

Hi miriam

Thanks for answering.

When it comes to elections or deciding bewteen 2 options, I've found more accurate to use the Wen Wang Gua method, but reading someone else's answer can be tricky.

First, in WWG the earthly branch of the day when the coins were tossed is of paramount influence. That's why I asked. The reason to ask the hour is to be sure that it wasn't the case of asking in day A in a gregorian calendar but day B in chinese calendar. So, if you asked before 11 pm I would take you tossed on April 15th, 2016.

Second, when the question involves 2 contenders (either persons, political parties or options), the key is to identify correctly which one is represented by the Subject or Self or Host line and which one is represented by the Object or Other or Guess line.

Now, if you use some old documents, the Host is the one waiting to be invaded, the one defending itself; and the Guess is the one moving actively to invade. the one attacking. But Alex Chiu says that you should take the preferred option as the Host and the other one as the Guess. In the first case, I would say leaving EU is Guess and continue being part of it is Host; but if Alex Chiu is right, then leaving EU is Host (since you prefer that option) and continue being part is Guess.

Now, if the old books are right, then I'd say leaving the EU will win; but if Alex Chiu is right, the option to continue in the EU should win. Either way, the result should be somehow surprising in comparisson to current opinion polls (according to wikipedia, the day before the day you tossed the coins it was 40% to stay and 39% to leave; and that's the most recent opinion poll available).

We'll see how this works

Hi
My guess is that the UK will stay with EU " according to the lines" although I did kind of look twice when i saw 49. However i think the advice is that its going to be a band aid effect and the issues will come up again and it maybe more explosive or abrupt next time, as there are major underlying issues that the public will not know about at this stage anyway. I have been reading about the UK and allot of people have been unhappy with the UK and its relation with EU for some time and personally i thought the UK would succeed however i think the lines say otherwise.

Just adding to my post, the problem is its hard to make an informed decision when you really dont know the truth,

I agree with mirian, and think that UK will stay in the EU

I was looking at 63.4 > 49 when i made my decision, saying that leading to 49 just wondering if 49 is what we are being told, my football team lost yesterday with 31.4> 39 it was an extremely close game and my team lost in the last minute so the last hex i see now was obvious,
and did look at that like i am looking at 49 now.
I will stick with my first answer but imagine if that big fat 49 is staring us in the face and they succeed.

Hi Steve,
Sorry to hear your football team lost the game  but I see what you mean about comparing that 39 to the 49 in relation to the referendum. It's interesting to note that Topal asked if Britain would remain in the EU and also got 49 as a relating hexagram (31.1 >> 49). I also looked back on my initial reading (63.4 >>49) but I still cannot see that as a prediction. It was a moment when negotiations towards a so called "reformed" EU were still ongoing and I took the reading as a picture of the situation then. Well, we will see what this 49 is all about.;)

The upper trigram in hex 49 is tui metal, while the lower trigram is li fire.

The host (UK) is li fire and the EU is tui metal. Fire suppresses the metal. No decision can be made immediately.

Hex 63 means the equilibrium has been reached and then after there will be chaos.
Line 63.3 sibling hai water is UK and 63.6 zi water is EU. Both are water which is part of the same system.

Line 63.4 is the interference in this union. 63.4 shen metal is the same is shen metal in the year 2016. The change line is shen metal becomes 49.4 sibling hai water. The system contributes to a situation of no money, no funny because sibling line means financial loss.

The boundary of the situation is set up by 49.6 government wei earth and 49.2 government chou earth, both are yin lines. No one in the system cares about the other to do anything.

49.6 is government wei earth, 49.5 is the business you metal, 49.4 is sibling hai water. Earth produces metal, metal produces water. This system does not change. UK wants to improve its bargaining position, but nothing will happen until the month of wei earth.

UK has its own deficit and problems, and cannot contribute financially to help with the EU problem. US has even a bigger deficit problem and cannot help UK.

Nothing will happen. UK wants to shut off a system of free migration of people into UK to use up their social welfare system.
