The park has a reflecting pond,
a pool one could wade or float candles in.
I set two sailing one evening
in the counter clockwise current.

Surely tiny flames traveling around the perimeter
in water surrounded by concrete
could not ignite a dangerous blaze.
...safe to leave them and walk away...

After meeting a friend for a drink accompanied by
melodious strains from a busker with a saxophone,
I returned to the pond to retrieve my votives.
Now there was one flame and a floating rose.

A circus rose, no less. My favorite: bright yellow with red trim.

On Novemeber 5th I playfully asked two questions.
"Who floated the rose in the reflecting pool?"
Answer: H 34.1.4 > 46

"What is the significance of the reflecting pool rose?"
Answer: 25.1.4 > 20

25.1 "Withouth entanglement, Going on, good fortune" // I walked on and then had the "good fortune":
In my constancy to return and collect what I had left, I find;) a rose //25.4 "There can be constancy - no mistake"

But the real SHOCK (51) was H 34.1.4 > 46
There was instant recognition of an answer I had received on October 28th.
In attempting to understand my strong feelings/reactions about a particular relationship (with Y), I had asked,
"What was the reason for our meeting?" and I received H34.1.4 > 46

I can't imagine that Y could have floated the rose. He had walked with me away from the pond, shared a drink, and descended to the subway train.

fwiw or not

well, amazing...

I'm just noticing some "reflections" play all around in your readings.

34 is like a doubled Dui (line by line), a sort of inner reflection (the reflecting pond itself).

34 and 20 are opposites (yin-yang reflection)

34 is the base hex in one reading, 20 is the related one in the other reading (reflection in the movement of change)

the same facts apply between 25 and 46

20 and 46 have swapped trigrams; the same between 25 and 34

lines 1.4. in both readings, always two 9's

change operator is 51, a doubled trigram itself

base hex in both readings is 4 yang + 2 yin lines, related hex in both readings is 2 yang + 4 yin lines

if you place a mirror between lines 2 and 3 in each hexagram, all lines are symmetrical

line 34.4 says: "The hedge opens; there is no entanglement", while hex 25 is being without entanglement

25 comes after the Return, 34 comes after the Retreat, both showing a change of direction (similar, by the way, to your walking repeatedly to and away from the pond)

...

all this seems to point your attention to the play of mirrors and reflections in your experience.
are you and Y acting as each other's mirror?
can you spot reflections anywhere in your life now?
what do they tell you?

entanglement in 25 comes from "not being as one should be", i.e. not following the law of heaven.
in 34.1 misfortune comes from moving too fast or too early, or too willingly, while in 34.4 you disentangle by means of constancy and tenacity (also, patience), without using force. you adjust your will to the natural law and don't anticipate everything with expectations and fears.
so, these two things resonate together.
patience (and tenacity) is also the clue in hex 46, where it leads to South (i.e., light, awareness), while in 20 you obtain a greater Vision. in both hexagram, you tend to move upward, with dedicated effort.

any trace of meaning in all this?
especially for your question: "What is the significance of the reflecting pool rose?"
(I assume you'd like to know why you are experiencing all this, what is the universe trying to tell you)

Who floated the rose in the reflecting pool?
34.1.4 > 46

A person who is playful, enjoys creating suspense and leaving secret messages, has artistic tastes, likes flowers, and happened to be carrying a circus rose. If you'd like to do a little detective work, if there is a florist shop in the area, the florist might describe the person who bought a single circus rose and replaced your votive offering with it -- or it might be the florist advertising business :)

34 concerns effort. Line 1 suggests you are not now meant to know ("Continuing brings misfortune"), and line 4, that you will eventually know ("The hedge opens"). Since the pool is circular, "Power depends upon the axle of a big cart" suggests that you can make contact with the unknown person by placing another votive offering (46 refers to an offering) on the pool at a similar time and circumstance.

Thank you Tiziano and Pocossin. Yes, I am wondering what the universe is trying to tell me. And I find the comments and suggestions from both of you unexpectedly helpful. I will reflect on them and report any insights or discoveries that happen to come.

tiziano's comment on my reading that "34 is like a doubled Dui (line by line) has been helpful. It isn't something that I would have seen. In fact, I think I need help fully understanding it. (I notice Dui in as the outer trigram of the nuclear hexagram of 34 and upside down as the inner trigram of the relating figure. And then lines 1,2,6 make Dui and lines 3,4,5 make Dui.... like a lake within a lake. Is this what you meant, tiziano?)

In reflecting on "doubled Dui", I started to think about "inner child/internal family systems" work. It is as though I have two "inner daughters" (c1 and c2) who come into play in my relationship with Y. c1 behaves like line 34.1. Her behavior terrifies c2 who wishes CC would take care of her and take things slowly. And "Dui" as a "third daughter" is doubled in my external family. I am the youngest of two survivors of a triplet gestation. And my "twin" and I have an older sister. In terms of my "twinship" I have been more like c2 in my life and my sister is more like c2. Something about my relationship with Y has brought c1 out of retreat. Now I feel called to balance the wills of these "inner daugthers"; as tiziano advised, "adjust your will to the natural law and don't anticipate everything with expectations(c1) and fears (c2)." (Interestingly, Y is a twin.)

I like Pocossin's suggestion to place another votive offering. It may be a while before I do that. (The pool has been drained of water for the season.) And I haven't yet found a nearby florist. But I'll remember to give follow up on the mystery of the circus rose.

Pocossin's descriptions of 34.1.4 as "A person who is playful, enjoys creating suspense and leaving secret messages, has artistic tastes" fits my sense of Y. (he would have had to have an accomplice)

Well, no, it's something much simpler than that.
Just put trigram Dui and hexagram 34 side by side.
Can you notice that they have the same overall shape?
You can obtain hexagram 34 by subsituting each single line of Dui with a pair of identical lines.

Dui:

yin
yang
yang

34:

2 yin
2 yang
2 yang

Thank you for the follow up. Everything you write is very interesting and the fact that both of you are twins makes the whole play of relfections even more meaningful. And even more does your internal play of "daughters".

Reflections, of reflections, of reflections...
A fractal, maybe...
