I have a ~24 year old car that came to me with an oil leak.

I was told the seal between the engine and the transmission was leaking, after the replacement transmission was installed, and that fixing it requires $1000 in labor and $8 in parts.

The leak is small, and I discovered I could let it run low on oil and it seemed pretty OK for the short distances I traveled.

Now however I am needing to travel longer distances at higher speeds. So I need the oil at its proper volume and this means the leak will be more significant over time.

Fixing the issue by hiring someone else is expensive and requires trusting a mechanic to do a lot of complicated things and be true to their word about price, and there is a high chance something else might not work after this. Doing the work myself is possible if I can have the time.

However a friend at work mentioned dealing with a leak they have by simply using an additive that seals it up, and over time their leak minimized to almost nothing. So I am curious about this option.

And overall just curious what direction might serve my needs here for resolving the leak efficiently.

(And just to add a coworker yesterday mentioned possibly selling their old prius. And my car has a lot of other issues.)

Curious, and very nuanced. Thank you.

Hexagram 16, Broadcasting, lines 4, 5 and 6 active.

Line 5 seems the most appropriate for seeing meaning here: There is a persistent illness, but one never dies. The commentary goes on... (Yiming/Cleary): ... Not dying and not living, keeping to hone principle alone, resting in a small vehicle, even if true yang is in view, one cannot have it oneself; this is sticking to indifferent emptiness, in which there is no joy..

Seems like the option related to not fixing it and maybe using an additive (one principle alone). There is no joy and no great resolution but no death either.

In the middle of the plains there is a pulse,
Waiting for the cooking to complete.
Inviting many friends to partake,
Acquiring the great things sought.

(Do note, control+enter posts the thread!)

Here the first line is significant. In the middle of the plains is somewhere in the vast emptiness. And there is something alive there, there is a pulse.

Only here we are not being indifferent, we are changing, and creating something rather than sticking to emptiness. So my take is that this line is not likely to change, just as a big party in the plains is also not likely, but if we are able to do it (true yang in sight), great accomplishment can be had.

So this makes it even more fitting about the whole car situation in general, and notes that the change is in sight (I already have the $8 part), it is unlikely to come together in that sort of change unless I really put in the effort of shell out the dough I might rather save for the prius and fixing it instead.

Overall, this hexagram represents summoning yang by yin, according to Liu Yiming. Which makes more sense of line 5 as well.

Line 4 is yang, and the focal point of how this hexagram's change operates. Being the source of joy/broadcasting, there is great gain. Do not doubt. Companions gather together.

The Forest here is rather complicated to unpack, for it involves a story that is rather complicated and confusing at the first take of it. However the overall image seems to represent an impass, something coming between or unravelling between one and that which they desire. Which comes of going too far in being the center of attention and creating obstacles for oneself, which appears to be the change here.

So this line is meant to be steadfast and allow its operation such that it is not converted by yin, but is able to convert yin. In this way things can be gathered together like a bunch of messy hair all gathered together with a band.

I'm not clear one what this means but sense it has something to do with the prius. The coworker who mentioned it isn't certain yet, but has also been interested in my tiny house (more of a shed with windows and a nice hardwood floor), to become a place to do writing away from the family.

In this sense, I have responsibility for doing something with this shed, and this person needs the shed. This person has a car, and I need a car. Both are yin, and both need repairs, but if line 6 is able to operate such that it stay atop of the situation, it is able to transform yin to yang, and perhaps my coworker can get what is needed for their situation, and I can get what is needed for mine. But I need to be careful to avoid letting it fall through by taking the appropriate actions at the appropriate times.

With line 6... Oblivious in joy. What comes about has change; there is no blame.

The magpie rests in a willow tree,
But the turtledove takes it over.
Physically strong but morally weak,
Heaven does not lend its assistance.

I think this one is clear now. Essentially, this one represents overstaying and then things change despite one's reluctance for them to. Already I've delayed on preparing my tiny home for the person to view, though it may also be that the timing is more appropriate now that there may be a more even exchange.

But if I twiddle my thumbs and allow the ripe timing to pass, then they will find something else for their writing project and my tiny home will need to find a new home, and the car may find a new owner.

So very literally accurate reading. It really addressed my whole vehicle situation and not just the oil leak, by tapping into the whole dynamic at hand. Which is quite helpful. Amazing how much three lines can say.
