Five years ago an injury led me to retire from an art form I love dearly. I've pursued another part of that art form ever since, and ever since been dissatisfied that I'm not still doing it -- that is the replacement is not working on an emotional level, and causes me some (Ok significant) distress. I asked the Yi to show me how returning to that art form would affect my emotional well-being. (Another question is how i can manage to do it physically but that's almost secondary to me). The Yi gave a curious answer: Hex 1.1.3.5.6 changing to Hex. 40.

I'm most concerned with changing line 6, which seems to be a warning against going 'Too far', and Hex 40 -- delivery from tension, but which tension? The tension of not being able to do this art form? Or releasing myself rom the anxiety I have from *not doing it* even while continuing life without it?

Also, the progression of the changing lines is contradictory:
1 - patience is rewarded. I take this to mean 'you need to wait and not act now'.
3 - if you remain wary you will avoid pitfalls (ditto).
5 - I achieve greatness
6 - I need to guard against going too far.

Why the progression? Why not just highlight one line? Does line 5 mean yes go for it but if you do a great fall is coming? Or does this tell me what I"ve already gone through (??)

I will paste the initial hexes below for reference. Thanks in advance for any comments.
++

1. Ch'ien / The Creative
above Ch'ien The Creative, Heaven
below Ch'ien The Creative, Heaven

The Judgement: The Creative works sublime success, Furthering through perseverance.

The Image: The movement of heaven is full of power. Thus the superior man makes himself strong and untiring.

Line 1: Hidden dragon. Do not act.
Line 3: All day long the superior man is creatively active. At nightfall his mind is beset with cares.
Line 5: Flying dragon in the heavens. It furthers one to see the great man.
Line 6; Arrogant dragon will have cause to repent. = A gentle touch is required, do not be overbearing.

Hex 40. Hsieh / Deliverance

above Chên The Arousing, Thunder
below K'an The Abysmal, Water

The Judgement: Deliverance. The southwest furthers.
If there is no longer anything where one has to go,
Return brings good fortune.
If there is still something where one has to go,
Hastening brings good fortune.

The Image: Thunder and rain set in: The image of Deliverance. Thus the superior man pardons mistakes And forgives misdeeds.

Hi Elizabeth

I think the lines are telling you a story....
When you create an intention as you have done you need to allow it time to gestate before it will grow into action.
If you listen carefully during this time you will hear the answer that will come back. It may be what you want to hear or perhaps not.
Your thoughts and actions can mix with those of other creative people who will help further your desire.
Remember that you can do all this but what you get as the outcome may not be truely what you needed or expected it to be. Be gentle on yourself.

40 - Allow things to loosen around you and it will give you a freedom that you can only imagine. It will take you to where you need to be now.

Love and Hugs

If i have many moving lines I focus more on gaining an impression the sentence the two hexagrams make together rather than get hung up on contradictions in the lines. Here it would be 'releasing the creative' or maybe 'creative release' which brings to mind a cathartic impact on your emotional well being something like that anyway, play around with it in your head what these two hexagrams might make for you - maybe zoom out a bit (like a camera) or it can get like you don't see the wood for the trees - then look at the lines if you want to - but get a feel for the general impression first

It suggests you put some thought into this idea before proceeding, like how will your old injury will impair your ability to do what you want to do, like if it causes you pain or other discomfort then you are going to have to reign in your ambitions a bit and this could be upsetting for you in the beginning, the inability to keep up with your class mates. Hex 40 says that if you go for it and overcome the initial problems then you will feel quite happy with yourself.
