returning to a career -- 7.2 changing to 2

15 years ago I went back to school after 5 years before that leaving a long career due to medical disability. I finished a degree in counseling but never used it. Now, at 59, I'm considering going back to (or actually beginning) a new life as a counselor. I have posted previously about going back again to graduate school to finish a doctorate.

All of this is hard to discern - I'm definitely older, definitely have a big gap in my work history, etc.

My most recent post I asked the opposite - NOT going back to school

This morning I asked the I Ching, "What would life be like if I go back to counseling?" - receiving 7.2 changing to 2.

Hex 7 - Discipline - makes sense - that I would have to be very focused and intent...line 2 changing - I see as showing that working with others (colleagues) and the people I would work with - and that I need to remember humble

The resultant hexagram 2 - the receptive/magnetic - and the mare - as in following - again following my calling as a counselor and submitting to this life

Am I reading this all appropriately? I know that I tend to "want to find" the "answer/guidance" that "fits to what my ego wants".

Also, my prior readings have focused on going back to school for the doctorate - how would i form an appropriate question about both going back to school and going back to counseling?

For 7.2 Lise’ site says
07.2 He lives in the center of the legion. Auspicious. Without fault. The king confers three commands.
Live what you do, be what you do.

“Live what you do, be what you do” is such a beautiful interpretation. I read “lives at the center of the legion” as being centered, organized, humble, in your purpose. Maybe it’s about finding a path to starting your practice and really using that as a focus you pour all your dedication and loyalty into. I think this line seems positive for your question. Getting organized and into your purpose sounds a lot like being at the center of an army. I’m not sure what the steps of returning to this would entail but I don’t see why it would rule grad school out. Would you do some kind of continuing education or start observed clinical hours to return to the field?

edit: Perhaps this answer 7.2 is showing you a more grounded starting point. 45.1.3 sounded like you could get started but it might become disappointing or you’d be blocked somehow. You’d really have to push and find someone to help you a lot to make that happen. Perhaps it can still happen later but clinical practice or something more immediate as a stronger base.

I’ll be curious your thoughts and to hear what others think.

This morning I asked the I Ching, "What would life be like if I go back to counseling?" - receiving 7.2 changing to 2.
7 meaning ' grieving'
2 meaning ' being supple'

Nuclear 24 Returning meaning 'the way is reversing'

If you go back to counselling, life would be set in a context of having to be open and adaptable. At times it will be like grieving over many of your past experiences and emotions that have brought sadnesses to you. Your challenge would be to reverse that way you have dealt with these experiences and emotions before - being closed, nor reflecting thoroughly on your inner world and shutting down.

7.2 - The opportunities are there for you to find a new inner harmony in this work. Taking responsibility and owning your new path works its way from inside to outside and eventually will place you firmly as the leader of your own army.

Also, my prior readings have focused on going back to school for the doctorate - how would i form an appropriate question about both going back to school and going back to counseling?
This could be your first real act of leadership and taking responsibility just about to play out. How can you find inner harmony if you are relying on others to show you the way by abdicating from determining what questions to ask? Their questions only direct them to their inner harmony.

Some considerations:

Recognising what you want from each - getting a doctorate is entirely different to wanting to work compassionately with other people as a counsellor. One is grounded in the head the other in the heart.

Recognising why might you want to engage with both at the same time - what is your ego having to say about that?

An important aspect of divination is not about finding the right answer but finding the right questions(s). The thing is though it's so much more appropriate if they are your questions.

...or it may be nothing like this for you.

Good Luck

Line 7.2 is terrific encouragement for knowing you are able to take charge of your life and handle your affairs and the needs of those who depend on you. It describes a sargent who has come up through the ranks, he knows what the real problems are and he is in a position to do something about them - unlike a general who may be oblivious off in some ivory tower. However, this sargent has the approval and support of the higher ups which makes him even more capable of being successful - maybe a reference to having the proper credentials and other seals of "king's" approval? As a response to what your experience might be if you were to go back into counseling, I think you are being told you should aim for a position where your life experience is recognized as an asset and maybe with a focus on leading groups, and perhaps also a suggestion that you might not need to have completed a degree in order to begin being of use in your chosen field.

As for how to phrase questions, sometimes just asking, "What do I need to know about..." can give you the insight you're wanting. Or simply state the subject, "Degree?" and see what comes up. Do you subscribe to WikiWing? Hilary starts each hexagram discussion with a series of useful questions to ignite your divinations.
