Same reading twice! (58 -> 51)

Hello, I have a pretty clear idea of what the iching is telling me, but I would like a second and third opinion..
I used the Iching last week to interpert a certain day-to-day event that I witnessed during a powerful meditation (vision quest, but that's beside the point). I asked the question not with words, rather I focused on the event and asked to learn what its significance was.
The answer 58.2.5 changing to 51.

I interperted this as telling me that I need to gather myself into my center and watch out for negative influence from people around. I wrote to myself that the Iching is talking about the idea that I've been considering for a while, of moving away from the city in which I live with many friends to a quieter place, where I can focus on my studies for two courses that I am taking, and spend more time in the wild, which is what one of those courses deals with mainly. The second and fifth lines seem to be addressing exactly this: distancing yourself from elements that might get in your way and weaken you, knowing to place boundries, and indeed one of the things I find very hard about living where I do today is the difficulty of putting aside enough time for focusing on what's imortant to me (because it requires serious daily work), it is hard because of all my friends which I love who are always around, unkowingly distracting me and I end up feeling my time is not fully used.

Today I asked the Iching specifically if I should move out of this city and again I got the same answer exactly - 58.2.5 changing to 51. I guess the message is pretty strong. I don't know if I want to leave though, maybe I can stay where I am and still do my work, it is possible but requires a great feat of will.

I feel that hex 58 in this context means not joy but more like hedonism, there is much fun in the city for me but not enough fulfillment. I am not sure whether to interpert hex 51 as refering to staying where I am and overcoming the difficulty regardless, or

"Six in the second place means:
Shock comes brining danger.
A hundred thousand times
You lose your treasures
And must climb the nine hills.
Do not go in pursuit of them.
After seven days you will get them back again."

can mean that I need to retreat to a high summit and be more alone in these times.

Hi Yaniv,

Hexagram 58 2-5 changing to 51, as you rightly state, seems very much about communication, keeping a clear head and weathering the storm. It is also about expanding your social networks and interacting with as many likeminded people as possible.

In Hex 58 this influence is strong and therefore 58 also advises aganist going it alone. Being isolated from your loved ones is not the desired of outcome of Hexagram 58.

58 also speaks of expanding your social network by making new frineds with like minded people but again not at the expense of your current loved ones. 58 is about respecting other peoples points of view whilst ensuring that your needs are also respected; and In this situation your need seems to be getting your loved ones to allow to some space to study.

According to Hexagram 58 you should speak up for yourself but show others the same respect and consideration that you want for yourself.

The changing lines seem to suggest that whilst it is important to tolorate other peoples points of view or behaviour you should not do so at the expense of your own. A further suggestion is that you do need to take some action to secure your well-being.

My understanding is: If you speak up for yourself and ask your loved ones to give you some space - taking the higher ground so to speak (you did say that your loved ones UNKNOWINGLY invade yor space) they may be upset for a short time but you should not run after them to keep the peace because they will get over the shock of what you have said and friendships will soon be resumed. It could also mean that speaking up for yourself and staying put will also appear to sever the link that is pulling you away. Again, stay calm and level headed because 'in seven days comes the return...' Perhaps the 'shock' to action comes from you stating that you are leaving?

Hexagram 51 (which includes the transformative properties of Hex 58 - 2-5) advises aganist rash or rushed decisions. It advises you not use negative manipulation to get your need meet or to be manipulated by what other people do and say. The true essence of 58 is Joy. So, if, as your post suggests, you are happy where you are and don't want to move away then the negative influence that you need to protect yourself from seems to be isolation. Perhaps it is that pull that is the negative one and 58 2-5 appears to confirm this by suggesting that isolation is not the right way to go. If on the other hand - staying put means that you will be isolated and alone, then of course this is not what 58 2-5 is advising. Whatever the case scenario Hexagram 51 offers some guidance.

51 encourages you to look before you leap and carefully consider all of your options. With 51 it is important not to act out of fear, panic or something other than clear, rational thought.

with 51, a considered response is always the best course of acion. Think things through and speak to who you need to speak to so that you are fully aware of the possible consequences of your proposed actions. Know what you would do if faced with a worst case senario. So,

58 changing to 51 seems therefore to be about comminication. speaking up for yourself, lisening respectfully to the views and opinions of others whilst holding firm to your own convictions. Discussing your fears with your loved ones so that you can carefully consider ALL OF THE OPTIONS currently avilable and make a properly informed decision seems to be 58 [2-5] 51.

Above all, the Hexagrams and changing lines seem to advise - Staying calm, keeping a clear head, and not being afarid to asked for the support you need. Moreover, the Hexagrams appear to counsel that perhaps by speaking up, listening and being heard you will eventually come to a solution that you are all happy with...
