I had a scary dream that woke me up in the middle of the night, I dreamed of the devil who made me look in the mirror. I dreamed of my reflection in the mirror, the mirror was large and I could see myself perfectly, since and the second time I dream of the devil I asked why I have these scary dreams and what they can mean. hexagram result 45.2.3.6> 44

How horrible.

But I don't think bad dreams have to always necessarily "mean" anything hugely monstrous in real life (thank goodness). There are precognitive dreams, but think back to other bad dreams you've had - or good ones, for that matter - they haven't all been predictions, have they?

45 to 44 - there is an actual Yijing text, one of the 10 Wings (later, but still very old, additions to the core book), for hexagrams in sequence, called the Xuogua. For 45 following from 44 it says:

'They meet one another, then they assemble, and so Gathering follows. Gathering means assembling.'

44 - Coupling / Encountering / Coming to Meet - is a very disruptive hexagram which is a perfect description of a scary dream. Its Oracle text advises not to "marry" it - you should not try to make it a permanent part of your life.

I don't think science completely understands dreams or everything that goes on during sleep, but the Xuogua sounds to me like your brain "assembles" (45) everything indiscriminately, with unpredictable results (44). Here's Hilary's commentary on it:
The gathering expands to encompass everything that meets together. Even the untameable, unpredictable forces of change that arrived in Hexagram 44 are integrated here.

Lines -

Line 2 (Hilary's translation)
'Being drawn.
Good fortune, no mistake.
With truth and confidence, then it is fruitful to make the summer offering.'

Line 3
'Now gathering, now lamenting.
No direction bears fruit.
Going on, no mistake.
Small shame.'

Line 6
'Heartfelt lamenting, weeping, snivelling.
Not a mistake.'

Being "drawn" (like "by the nose") implies you're being moved against your will, which fits with 44. The rest of it might say bad dreams are a small sacrifice you'll occasionally have to make due to needing sleep, but it shouldn't undermine your trust in life or ruin your confidence.

"No mistake" can also be translated "no blame" - see how the texts feel if you substitute that.

Two of the lines mention "lamenting" ("weeping, snivelling" - intense emotion) which seems appropriate.

12.2 to 6
Hilary often points out 6 can have a great flavor of :hissy: - frightening dreams are not fair on some level - you were only trying to sleep for goodness' sake.

12 means Blocked, stagnant, not flowing.

Line 2
'Embracing the charge.
Small people, good fortune.
Great people, blocked.
Creating success.

"What will happen to me?" - you'll "embrace the charge." A "small person" response might be easiest: accept (maybe not embrace, exactly) this thing that comes unbidden. A "great person" might do a lot of research and try a lot of things to try to ward them off (don't eat spicy food too close to bedtime, see a counsellor, whatnot), and might have some success, but she might find it heavy sledding - dreams aren't easily fixable like removing a splinter.

I looked for insights on 45 and reading on the forum also speaks of joining a group (church perhaps)? I could not find anything on the summer offer what could it be? I also found a site where there was talk that having this type of dream means unexpected betrayal, in the hexagrams does something about betrayal be mentioned? (not in a loving sense but in all areas of life) also on line 2 of hexagram 12 he talks about not accepting something, what can it be? thank you ❤

Dreams come from a deep place within us and often can be highlighting everyday things that we are overlooking or not facing. All of the images in dreams are there to help us grow whether they be the Devil or a fluffy white rabbit. So to make the dream a little less scary, if you can, just try to think of it as a box full of old pictures. Nothing more, nothing less.

Why I have these scary dreams and what they can mean? 45.2.3.6> 44

'Bringing Together' through 'Encountering'
44 talks around inferior aspects of ourselves that temporarily step forward to tempt us.
45 has a theme of things that do not normally come to the fore stepping up to bring a new unity.

So in the dream you swim in a sea of temporary images (44) that are coming forward to assist with the gradual development of something new (45). Being drawn forward in this way can be beneficial even if you can only step towards the picture it is showing a small bit (45.2). Don't force anything or judge anything, just see the pictures you see (45.3). Accept how you have felt about the dream and what it has shown you and expressing all those emotions has not been a mistake (45.6)

"What will happen to me?" 12.2> 6

There is nothing to worry about. You will find a way to stay true to the picture that you hold of yourself.

Good Luck

If you want to join a church and think it will help, then by all means do it. 45 could easily mean a group like that.

But - that's very different from thinking, "Yi told me to join a church" - do you see the difference? 45 isn't that specific.

I could not find anything on the summer offer what could it be?
A summer offering ("spring" in some translations) is one made before harvest time. Your supplies are low, so you can't offer much, you shouldn't try, and it's not necessary.

I also found a site where there was talk that having this type of dream means unexpected betrayal, in the hexagrams does something about betrayal be mentioned? (not in a loving sense but in all areas of life)
I don't see anything that obviously sounds like that. For instance you didn't get 62.3 which says, "Someone following may strike him down. Pitfall."

But the heartfelt lamenting in 45.6 is to make yourself heard when too much is asked of you. There's an agent there - people or things or situations are making onerous demands, and the advice is to object strenuously. I thought the bad dream itself was the agent - that it's perfectly natural and okay to object to having one, to "weep and snivel" and be scared.

But I don't know anything about standard dream imagery, where it comes from and whatnot, and I'm happy to believe that some dreams have actual messages. So maybe what you read can't be ruled out. But again that's very different from thinking Yi has definitely told you one of your friends (for instance) is a devil.

Line 2 is about "embracing" (accepting) a "charge" - Hilary says that's a contract, the terms you're given, an agreement entered into. I thought it meant accepting the fact that because we have to sleep, sometimes we'll have bad dreams. You can accept that as an unavoidable part of life (the "small person" reaction), or you could try to find some way to prevent it ("great person," who wants more control over things).

thank you so much for your help and I hope that similar dreams remain dreams and not something else. unfortunately in my life it happened to me many times to have premonitory dreams I hope this is not the case. a hug

Premonitory dreams generally have a different feel around them than your day to day, common or garden dreams ( scary or not).
