This is related to messages from Lise and Mick in the thread "Choosing a hexagram for the Year" on using cards.

Lise, I liked the idea of spreading cards using a feng shui layout but reading 9 hexagrams at once is absolutely out of my possibilities (it means having 9.993.927.307.714.560 possible outcomes!).

Do you know if there is a similar way of using a feng shui diagram to get only one hexagram? (BTW what is SanShan?)

Another idea I had is to draw a sort of mandala with all the 64 hexagrams connected each other and find a way of jumping from one to another (possibly using dice) to get the final hexagram.

Is it somehow similar to the paths you described?

During these day of (relative) calmness I'm back to my work of collecting methods for casting hexagrams.

Mick, I know almost nothing on Tarots, is there any plan to extend the correspondence your are posting to cover all the 64 hexagrams? I would be very interested to know about it.

BTW, a spread of 7 cards out of 22 means more than 27 millions of possibile outcomes, it is enough for casting one of the 4096 hexagram at once!

A fruitful new year to everyone!

Hi Remo,

This doesn't really answer any of your questions, but have you seen Dan Stackhouse's idea for an 'Original I Ching' mandala?
That involves making a conventional reading, but then setting out the trigrams at the corners of a 3x3 grid, so that they can form another 2 hexagrams.

Maybe you could be the one to develop a way of mapping conventional readings onto a bagua?

Hi Hilary,
yes I was aware of the work by Dan Stackhouse but I did not find a way to follow his idea for creating a method to cast a single hexagram.

Every method has two components: the first one, more apparent, is mechanical, the second one is about interpretation.

My work deals only with the first aspect, I do not know enough to mix the two components.

My hope was that some interested reader would develop his own method building on my mechanical considerations.

I just asked I Ching about the real resons I created my site, I received 58 with 3 moving line (9 in first and second place and 6 on the top).

My interpretation, but I would love to hear from you about it, is that I did it for letting other people know the thinks that I knew, just in case this could be helpful for them.

The most interesting aspect of the response is a firm warning to not search rewarding from others for my work. The six on the top exactly reflects my situation: four or five visitor a day but nobody who leaves a note to say if it's good or bad.

But 12 is the alternative, no communication at all, no information exchange. A bad thing I would say!

So, the I Ching says, go on with your work for yourself even if few will join it will still worth the effort!

"..go on with your work.." Yes!

As for others joining some will, some won't. So what?

Throw it away. Its comes back.

If it doesn't, it wasn't yours to begin with.

Sorry - off topic but I had an enthusiasm binge.
