Yes - that's one change I'm not so happy with. There is so much richness in Yi's language created by the possibilities of different numbers of moving lines (or none) that it's hard to think of a good enough reason to discard it.Hola Hilary;
Great review.I also bought Karcher's Symbolic life and must say that I am greatly impressed with it.I think it is quite an improvement on his previous Total I Ching.He managed to amalgamate everything into one grand interpretation ,adding more sense and focus to it.He also explains very well what he use to call Karmic nodes-the relationship of the lines in the pair of hexagrams.This is also been simplified,eliminating the possibillities of multiple changing lines - reduced to only one in his new approach to casting the divination)same method described by Alfred Huang and kwo Man Kwo)
I expect this article is the one you found? No, I don't know why he calls them that, either. I haven't explored these at all, not even to track down their structural roots. (Help?)A couple of comments though.He makes groups of hexagrams which overall are quite clearly traced to first second and third generation nuclear hexagrams and/or structural characteristics but I would still want to know what is the rationale behind calling one of them the "sacred sickness pathways"There is a reference to them in the papers he posted in The Great Vessel website but it is still unclear to me why.
Wow - I hadn't even spotted that. I do hope it turns out to have some intriguing origin and not to be a mistake.The other comment refers to the chart he uses to cast the hexagrams for divination.It shows the Early Heaven arrangement but the positions of fire and water are misplaced.Is it an error or does the arrangement belongs to any shamanic lore origin we are not aware of?
Yes - and maybe that's the way you're 'meant' to take it, simply absorbing the text without working out where it comes from. It's not in my nature to do so, though!Maybe a third comment might be that if you are aware of his previous works then it becomes easy to see "the clues" and put everything in context.Otherwise you have to take it at face value if this is your first Karcher book.
Nice thought....Hexagram 47... the only way to get access to any cracks or problems with the pool construction or replace the underwater light bulbs that so improve pool use at night time. Also, draining the pool allows the old water to be flushed away and a new batch of fresh, clean healthy water brought in.
