The madness of King Donald

In case anyone still has any doubts about the idiocy and divisiveness of our president in this time of crisis, here are two video clips that pretty much put the nail in the coffin - at least for me:

In this first one from coronavirus briefing just a few days ago, Trump asks Mike Pompeo to come up and answer questions, because he is very busy and has to get back the 'deep state department'.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and Trump's go-to public health guy (at least for now) looks at Trump in what seems to be shock and disbelief and then quickly hids a smirk by burying his face in his hands!

Dr. Fauci latter said that he was only suppressing a sneeze, which is Trump adminstration coded language for 'Shit, did he just say that and did I just smirk? I better hide that or I'll lose the job I've held since the Reagan administration .... !

The thing is, Trump's aids are now worried, not about how best to respond to this crisis, but they are instead worried that Fauci keeps correcting the president and this sort of thing is going to make Trump look bad!

*****************************

This next one is from Trump's visit to the CDC a few weeks ago. A few things to note - as the madess was just starting:

* As president of the USA says he's not aware of the number of flu cases and deaths, and this is news to him?

* He's at the CDC, who are the people who generate the figures for infectious diseases and he goes on to quote that 'very fine' TV news channel, FoxNews, about COVID-19 figures - and in the midst of a crisis he asks the Fox reporter about last night's ratings?

* He goes out of his way to give medical advice on how to deal with a cruise ship, and in his estimation, if we have more cases, it will be linked to them allowing this ship to dock - instead of letting it sail around for months as thousands of more people get infected!

* What is missing from this clip is when he 'channeled' his dead uncle, who taught at MIT ("maybe longer than anyone else has ever taught there") and he says that it is because of this that he can really understand what the scientist at the CDC are saying to him!

* Another part of the briefing was when CDC officials said that things were going to get worse before they got better, and Trump's response to that was something like, "if you start with 15, and you go down from there, you'll end up at 0." OMG - that's pretty much what he said, and after CDC officials were telling him the exact opposite!

* And that outfit. It's as if he's getting ready to say, 'sorry, we have to cut this short; I'm late for the senior lunch buffet at Golden Corral'.

The madness continues .... and if the virus doesn't get us, surely our president will!

I truly sympathise, I can't imagine the horror of having someone so far removed from reality (mad) at this time at the head of your nation.

Coronavirus I hear this morning is spreading fastest in the US, and he says he expects to be back to 'business as usual' by Easter !!??? So he believes he has some kind of authority over the virus or as someone said last night from the front line of one of our services I think 'this isn't a virus it's a plague'. No time to have a mad man as president.

Thanks. And I just read this morning that over on your side of the pond, Boris Johnson tested positive for the virus. I have been trying to cut back on the amount I'm reading and taking in.

What I heard from a friend is the Trump wants everyone to gather and go to church on Easter - as they usually would (if you already do that), but my friend also said we should be taking bets on whether or not he ends up following his own advice! The traditional Easter Egg hunt on the White House lawn?

Yes Boris and his chief medical officer Prof Whitty are both self isolating with symptoms. They weren't really following their own advice re social distancing. They were a bit too close at the daily press conferences and the press were there in person last week. I heard on TV last night figures show men are more prone to infection from this virus than women, no one knows why.

All churches here closed for the foreseeable future, quite unthinkable they would be open by Easter. I mean we are nowhere near the peak yet, the peak is forecasted around early summer I think so going to church at Easter is totally out of the picture.

Well I'm not really, I just popped in re current situation. This evening the governor of New York was on TV talking some sense saying there could no longer be any sense of separate hospitals, you're only going to get through this by looking ahead and working as one united healthcare system. The peak isn't for some weeks and there isn't a health system in the world that can cope with this so the more the granaries are emptied the better. There can be no question of hospitals not pooling resources, if they don't it's disaster and of course he said this means a totally different healthcare model for the US.

I don't know much about how it is there but was thankful there's someone there who is actually prescient with the facts of coronavirus and the urgency it requires. You, in the US will know whether this guy has impact or not more than me but I have been worried that as you don't have a unified healthcare system plus you have an idiot for a president it's going to hit harder than it should do.
