Hello everyone!

I've been familiar with the I Ching many years and at some point while searching online I found this lovely community. I've been checking various information on this forum for quite sometime now, but today I decided to join you people and actually talk - so this is my first post, be kind!

I'll try to make this short, but it's hard so whoever's reading, please bear with me.
Lately I've been going through a period that I feel signals closure and new beginnings, lessons learned through past years etc, so I've been consulting the I Ching evermore often.

Today I decided to get to the bottom of an old issue with a person who has been in and out of my life for the past ten years. The relationship has been through a lot -and through many stages- friendship, love, estrangement. However it never blossomed due to insurmountable obstacles which often had to do with mental health and internal balance or external circumstances. As a result, there's always been a feeling of incomplete affairs, idealisation and a difficulty to let go (due to lack of closure). I've always felt there was a deep connection that I could never really pin point, expressed through dreams (often prophetic) - a psychic bond that I have never experienced before and had a hard time to believe it even exists.

That being said, I consulted the I Ching asking three basic questions:

1. What is the basis of the connection between me and X?
- Hex. 17 unchanging

2. What do I represent in X's life?
-Hex 21.3.4 --> 22

3. What does X represent in my life?
-Hex.Hex 50.1 --> 14

Hex 17 means a lot of different things to me. First of all there is a sense of following (the follower being me, usually), secondly, there's been a demand of adaptation to the demands of the time (which was always hard for me to accept!). There's also been times when we both needed to go indoors and recuperate (and that we've done a lot). I also feel 17 speaks of a deep bond (not sure though) - which was part of the reason I was asking, I have always felt insecure as to whether this was all in my head.

Hex 21 with the change lines talks to me about the problems X needed to overcome (and there were lots), old problems in particular signified by line 3, which in the end manages to do in line 4 (that, I have not witnessed yet). It is true that I triggered the need to overcome these problems in many instances. I found it rather interesting that it changes to 22, these two hexagrams being a pair. I've never been very good with hex 22 though, so I'm not sure what it signifies in relation to me.

Hex 50 really puzzles me because it has to do with me and thus I'm completely clueless as to how to apply it to myself in terms of X and his presence in my life - though I feel it somehow connects with 22 (line 1 in particular)? I'm not sure.

Anyway, I'll stop writing here and wait for your own views on this. Thank you for having the patience to read all of this, I really feel these three readings could talk to me in various ways and levels, and for sometime to come. I'm not sure what the indications for the future are.

Any thoughts on these? I'd love some input, I'm sure I don't see all the aspects here.

Sometimes you have to throw an old shoe into the lake to wake up the dragon. :mischief:

1. 17, to me, is like going inside a cave to see the guru, before making an important decision.

2. someone pretty to bite on her neck

3. the guru who helps you take out the garbage

Interesting because I really feel it's time to take the garbage out - this is why I consulted the I Ching in the first place. But who might the guru be, in this particular situation?

Good question. I think in 17 it is your inner guru, which you follow into your deeper consciousness, to be guided in your decision or direction.

Maybe I was wrong about question 3. Maybe he is the garbage that the guru helps you to take out. chuckle

3. What does X represent in my life?
Hex 50.1 --> 14

Hex 50 represents the turbulence of transformation, and that could also be a lot of plain worrying about this relationship on your part. 50.1 means to me that you have a deep conflict about this relationship and that you will never get to the bottom of all this until you resolve or otherwise rid yourself of that conflict. 50.1 is not a comfortable line by any means. Good luck with it!

Spot on! You know what, I took a look at the hexagram and the line before I went to bed last night and then it hit me. Throughout this whole situation I've learned how to grow and be independent and at times it took a lot of work and struggle.

The main reason I consulted, as I wrote in my first post, is that I feel this is a period of closing circles, new beginnings etc, so I really wanted some insight on this. And I have come to realise that this sporadic (extremely sporadic at times) contact and the struggle that came along with it, has given me a lot to work on regarding myself and my personality.

I think this is what the caldron is saying after all, I needed to get rid of stuff within me and cook the rest of the raw ingredients. Right now I feel I'm at a transition point, but 14 is kind of relieving to me, I love that hexagram.

By the way, where is that "helpful post" button, I don't see it anywhere :p

I'm not sure he's the garbage (as much as I'd like it to be that way!). I think this has been a meeting between us that made both of us face our inner demons. Now, I'm not into wishful thinking, not pondering whether this is one day going to be my one and only true love etc. But admittedly, it has been a process of maturation for the both of us and in his case I think it was the trigger for him to work in some really really serious problems (and I mean really serious, I don't know if I can stress this enough).

Perhaps this is why in his case I got 21 and in mine, which was more of a maturation process where I needed to get rid of old stuff too, I got 50.

Either it magically appears when signed in or the admin program adds it to your options after a certain number of posts.

Btw, I think it's impressive that you accept part of what needs refinement, which in a word is 50's function. 50.1 turns the sacred cauldron upside-down to remove old stuff before the new recipe (paradigm) begins to cook from scratch. The concubine with a son is a lowly position, however the son represents new growth potential, worth and status.

Yes, yes it finally appeared! :bows:

The acceptance part is not as impressive as you might think. It took a really long time (about five years) and various stages. Even now I remember five years ago receiving hexagram 50 and not being able to really understand what it meant.

At the time I was really anxious, I realised there's work to do both in my case and in his, but never did I realise (until recently) that I really needed to ultimately let go and work on myself, see what happens. I remember receiving hex 13.5 and 38.1 respectively many years ago. Let go, see if it comes back, if there is this deep connection you need not worry. But I used to perceive it so romantically back then, that I wasn't able to really grasp the meaning of it.

Also, looking back, I used to think that he had to do all the work and resolve his own issues. It took a lot of thinking and struggling for me to realise that I needed to get rid of stuff too.

I believe this to be a point of transition as we've arranged a meeting after a really long time (3 years), no hastiness, no anxiousness, no expectations involved.

I've been consulting the iching too much though, I think. When asking for the first time I got a bunch of "clearing the air" hexagrams, then the opposite. When I asked why my last readings have been so pesimistic I received hex. 4 - probably the iching's way of telling me "stop bothering me, I've already told you what you need to know, now I'm just displaying your mood swings."

So overall, I'm thinking your first reply with the guru was spot on. I went into the cave, met the guy, helped me grow and get rid of garbage. In his case, went in the cave, met me, had to bite through poisonous stuff to get to a more graceful situation. If that's what you meant! :)
