Greetings,

I have enjoyed and greatly appreciated all the help, insight and advice I've received so far from the members here. Thank you.
I've been consulting the Yi for about a year and have often wondered about the time frame for an inquiry. When I consult the Yi about a general topic, at what point is the answer invalid? I have been reading over some questions I asked about a year ago and some do seem pertinent now and still make sense, but I've asked about jobs, school and moving and wonder for how long any given response is viable. Are there time frames "built in" to each hexagram or must I ask another question regarding the timing of a given action?
I did this once about whether I should make a move this year and received 52. This seemed clear to "be still" but I am still confused about the time frame that a given response implies. I would greatly appreciate any help with this.

Thanks in advance for your graciousness.

Chris

That’s a good question. I’d like to hear more too.

For me, questions without time frames do leave themselves open to interpretation. A question I asked in 2005 without a time frame still applies.

Personally, I like asking time related questions, so there’s less doubt. Especially "within the next year” questions because it’s makes the answer like a large print Yi version for me. Meaning, given a longer time period, I can see better how things play out on the big stage of life. Sometimes, it seems, things flow in a smooth progression and sometimes parts and pieces (judgment, image, lines) are highlighted at different times. I thought I dodged a warning line for a whole year one time and then on the very last day it played itself out! Another time one of the moving lines of my yearly question played out in the following year. I think the Yi just generously gave me a little extra future insight into the situation.

Getting 52, regarding your question about moving “this year,” is interesting to me. The question you asked does have a time frame in it, but 52 seems more like it’s teaching you “how to fish” rather than “giving you a fish.” Meaning, it’s giving you the gift of a lesson in how to approach making decisions in life rather than just giving you a “yes” or “no” answer (not that the Yi is actually ever that direct.) To me, 52 is more about how to go about detaching from turmoil, learning to be quiet in the present moment, and then getting to the place of knowing how and when to act when you see it. Related to moving, imo it seems like that could mean anytime really when you get to that point of stillness, calmness, and certainty about it.

the time frame is just well known and it's this year, you can monitor if the yi in this case answered by considering the occidental or the chinese calendar.

also for most questions, each time we ask something, we append a time line to the question, because we mostly know that something can be happen in certain time frame.... well the Yi take it always in consideration.

Thanks iamsgirl and patro.
I seem to be getting a lot of answers that are suggesting that I slow down a bit, which I have. My eagerness for immediate answers, results and advice seems to get me a bit worked up into a state wherein I don't always make the best decisions. With most of these inquiries I am taking into account my numerological year ( I am at the end of a 9 year) which seems to correspond with what Yi is telling me. "Yes there are changes on the horizon and I may make them when I am ready, but for now take care of what's in front of me now. No big changes or moves this year, but prepare myself for letting go of the old and creating the new next year. "
I think I will begin to incorporate more specific time frames in my questions in the future. I usually just kind of have them in mind, but don't specifically ask Yi during my inquiries.
Again, I appreciate your input it really helps me out a lot.
Peace
Chris
