And they're off...

British Labour Prime Minister, Gordon Brown yesterday declared (at last) a general election. I asked the I Ching last Thursday, "Will the Labour Party win the General Election?" and received 29.4 > 47.

Superficially not looking good for for Gordon's party - The Abysmal moving to Exhaustion/oppression - but still ambiguous...? Does this point to an outright defeat (as I'm inclined to think) or possibly a hung parliament? Or just to the fact that it's going to be a difficult struggle either way?

(I'm not voting for either of the three main parties, so I have no stake in them winning or losing)

"Will the Labour Party win the General Election?" and received 29.4 > 47.

Lovely answer.

The labour MPs are going back to basics to win votes this time, as they will have to drop the haughtiness they showed in previous elections, now it will be the house calls, the promise of "freebies", the insincere promise of help, the town square meetings, "lets all work together" bulls****. Oh! Won't they promise the folks the earth this time.

Then comes 47 which indicates that their lies will not be believed anymore, the game is over and they have exhausted their luck.

So, they won't win.

Hex 29 is also the hexagram formed from repetition of trigram Kan flowing water. The overall judgment speaks of water flowing like a mountain stream eventually gets somewhere. It is another of the hexagrams about being true to yourself and expressing that inner truth.

The various moving lines indicate ways that things can do something else than just keep flowing along. Line 4 isn't lost into an abyss or other problems of mountain streams. It is the line of the heart or soul and it is an Open Yin Space coming to stand out as a new focus. Here this line is being honest and expressing itself and its innermost feelings.

The Resultant hexagram is all about the interaction of flowing water and the topography that creates a lake. Having taken time out from just running hard and campaigning, trying to explain and take a stand (line 4) is not going well with the trend of the time. The support of the general flow of voters just isn't available at this time.

This Oracle answer seems to be taking a bit of a longer view of things. To the question specifically, "Will Labor win this election just called" it would not look good for labor winning the majority. However, it also is not a description of some other party coming into power.

Most likely import from this hexagram and line for your oracle seems to be they will lose but not necessarily that any other party will win and establish their new dynasty. Rather Labor will take its lumps and it will be the next election that is more likely to give a clear outcome...
