Hello I Ching Community,

For the moment I have a temporary job. Mean while I'm on the look out for a job that provides more security also very important, a job where I will feel better as a person.
Last week I had a very positive job interview and yesterday the company confirmed I could go through to the next round. They invited me to participate on an assessment the coming week. This assessment will take all day, so I will have to inform my current employer and ask him for the day off. Also, if I get the job, they will want me to start asap. I'm bounded to my current contract until the end of October. Belgian social law is very clear in cases like this, if i choose to break the contract I owe my current employer the salary they would have paid me from the moment I leave until the end of the contract.
There is a loophole in Belgian law however, if I go on sick leave for over 7 days, the employer has the right to break the contract immediately with no compensation for neither party. It's a complicated situation and I could have asked several different questions but I chose to ask the Yi for advice generally concerning my situation.

So i asked the Yi: What course of action to take?
Hexagram 17.4 -> 3
LiSe commentary:
9 at 4: Pursuing brings a catch. Determination pitfall. Be true on your road and use intelligence. No need to feel faulty.

Pursuing brings a catch -> I should go for the job
Determination pitfall -> Not sure on this one. Maybe when I break the news to my current employer I should try to look for a compromise instead of 'blindly determined' go for this job?
Be true on your road and use intelligence ->Be honest about to current employer instead of using my 'loophole' in Belgian law.
No need to feel faulty. -> I'm in my right looking for a job with more security and there's no need to feel guilty about it?

All input is very welcome :)

Line 17.4 suggests that if you pursue the new job you will get it but in doing so you will then get into trouble with your current employer if you try to leave before the contract is completed.

This you already know but your answer is spelling it out clearly for you to think about before making any decisions.

Why couldn't you just tell the new people, when you go for the second round of interviewing, that you are bound by a contract currently and won't be free to start until the end of October? The interviewing process is going to take time, anyway, and there is absolutely nothing to be gained by using ploys and loopholes, as spelled out by Willowfox, above.

I told them as much during the first job interview. They still want me to step in earlier. I don't think the interviewing process will take months, more like three weeks tops... Which is why I checked the internet about my contract. That's how i found out about the loophole. Please understand that it's not my intention to use ploys or loopholes, I was justed chocked when I realized I will probably be stuck in this job until the end of October while the possibility exists that I will have to pass on a steady job I would really love to do.

I will take your advice, Willowfox and Ginnie. Monday I'll speak with my boss and see what will happen.

I decided to be honest all the way and informed my employer my upcoming assessment. My boss gave me the day off, so far so good. I didn't get the job... because they derived from my psychological tests that I was a serious case of performance anxiety and the test concluded I had a burn out.
Needless to say, that hurt. It was like a slap in the face. The last 1.5 years I had to deal with a depression, a direct consequence of me leaving my last steady employer because of the negative stress. I have been fighting to deal with my depression and I really believe that since the beginning of this summer I made some significant progress. Of course I realise that a depression is not something you 'conquer' overnight, but still, those test results hurt.
I do NOT intend to give up, and that's that.

If you knew how those tests were devised and by whom -- and how completely useless they are -- I'm sure you'd feel great instantly.

Hex. 17.4 'Following possesses capture ... trial, pitfall'. 'One's righteousness, pitfall indeed'.
(Ritsema & Sabbadini)

Sounds like a blessing in disguise - you'd have been bound to a contract of long duration but
with time you might have realised that it wasn't rewarding/suitable, etc.

Now that you're emerging from a period when you felt low, you certainly don't need a stressful
working environment. Disregard the test and its results, Lady ... blessing in disguise.

Hex. 14 (in your other thread) and the pertinent lines in 26 indicate you had and still have heavenly protection. The job you eventually accept could possibly turn out to be 'made for you' and that'll give
you a boost and raise your mind/body/soul to another level ... out of depression.
That's my take on it.

Hi Themis

The thing with getting out of a depression is that it's long and arduous process.
At times, I feel so vulnerable, as if my heart lays bare for the world to see! When bad news crosses my path like it did last week, I feel like I'm being kicked back to the deepest blackest pits of my depression, as if all my progress could be be blown away in one breath.
Luckily, I have the love and support of my family. Especially my sister has been a beacon of light for me, since she climbed out of huge depression some 3 years ago. It's been a true gift to have someone who can relate to you, support you and kick you in the butt when you really need it ;) She assured me this sinking feeling was temporary and not that unusual when climbing out of a depression.

It's been a week since I heard about my test results and I have to say, I managed to put things in perspective, as my sister predicted.

Anyway, I don't believe that statistics can define a person. I don't think I would feel at home working for a company that places it's trust in such tests to recruit their personnel. So yes, a blessing in disguise indeed :)

I will keep my eyes open for my big hex 14. Btw, your referral to 'heavenly protection' feels really really good to me. As if a beneficial presence made itself known to me through this reading. Thank you so much!

Hello Mylady,

When you feel as if your whole world has come tumbling down ... when bad news disheartens and disappoints you ... when you're sinking into the murky depths of depression ... just remember
that Providence will guide you ... out of the fog you'll emerge. With the assistance of your
beloved sister who's so well placed to understand what you've been through, your family and
the I Ching ... you'll make it. Follow the signs ... Call upon the forces that be .. God, Providence,
The Universe, ask for clemency and strength, whenever you feel overwhelmed by that feeling which
weakens you.

Imagine the day when, like the Phoenix bird, you'll rise out of the ashes and soar again.

I agree with you about statistics being unable to define a person. If they rely on that method
in order to determine whether a person is suitable to have on board, that's pretty limited.
You're just so lucky you weren't selected ... cos the universe knows you belong elsewhere ...
a better setting.
Have faith.

Glad this has helped.

I don't think I could feel at home working for a company that had selected me through a series of so-called psychological tests.

Allow more room for lucky chance in your life and for the action of the Unseen Realm in bringing your wishes to fruition. We don't actually have to struggle and worry so hard as we do ... to get what we need.
