I am in a pretty difficult situation,This year I will be30, I've moved out of my parents house recently and got a job at a glass house I'm trying to support myself and at the same time persu my painting too and I am single and living alone. As everything in my life has changed dramatically this year I have lost my routine completely plus the fact that I am feeling this void in my heart that wants to be in love again, but I have been in love twoice and in both the situations it has been unrequited love so I am afraid to repeat the cycle again so whith all these in my head and heart I just ask the Iching What do I need to know now? And 27.2.4.6 to 54 came up, please help me!

You need to know that when you meet a guy who is seeking pleasure in a lot of wrong places (27.2), and he's hunting women like a tiger (27.4) and he believes he's god's gift and manna on earth (27.6), then you'll always end up in the position of being a second-best concubine. So if you don't want to repeat the same cycle of unrequited love, just avoid this type of unstable / predatory / arrogant guy.

What do I need to know now?

27.2 Trying to fulfill your needs in a way that is not according to custom will make life difficult for you.
27.4 There is nothing wrong with focusing on and pursuing your heart's desires, and things will go well for you when you do. Good fortune.
27.6 If you aren't finding what you need where you are - cross the river.

54. The context here - you are a woman that has been playing second fiddle to others.

I wonder what a 'glass house' is ?

What you need to know now is that you are somewhat at a disadvantage (54). This can happen when everything is unfamiliar and like the marrying maiden you have to adapt to everyone else and it's all strange and new. The first day at a new school can feel very 54ish - all these new rules and bigger people - well I think it's something like that for you now.

27 is to do with how you look to find what you need in life to sustain you and here it sounds like you are seeking emotional sustenance and don't know where to find it. In general 27 asks you to consider your own needs well - think about what satisfies you and also look to see how other people fulfil their needs. I also think 27 has to do with necessities, what is actually required and whether it is available for you to seek or not.

Line 2 shows someone trying to reach a higher source of sustenance before they really are quite grounded enough or nourished enough to make it there. So for a time you might have to realize you can't have it all at once because you are in transition in terms of your needs and wants and how they might be fulfilled. Some patience is required. You have made a big change so let things settle a bit.

Line 4 shows one very single mindedly looking for what they need and this is good as it provides energy and determination.

Line 6 points out one is one's self the source of nourishment. This can mean a number of things. One way I have see it play out is where a person is a first, a kind of pioneer in a situation. They have no one to follow, they must carve their own route. This is good, and also sometimes daunting. Another aspect of the line in relationships is that you are the giver, you are the one others seek to nourish themselves from. On the one hand this can give you a lot of leverage, they need you more than you need them, and on the other hand it can bleed you dry - but I don't get the sense of that here. I think these lines are a story...the story is as follows in my own words

"In a 54 time of feeling displaced and at disadvantage you seek to find the sustenance and fullness you need in life (27) You can't just go ahead and find what you aspire to right now because you need to find your level in the new situation a bit more (line 2) However you come to be really sure of what you want so as time passes you become very proactive in seeking what you need. This can take you into unchartered territory (line 6) yet as you are making your own path and going for what you want this is quite an exciting venture."

Noting the yang change pattern (where all change line become yang) here is 64 and the yin change pattern 63 . To me this shows there's big life transition themes happening here. You are in the process of river crossing to new life and also coming to completion of that. I like how the change patterns mirror how I see the cast.

Thank you for very much TorjinaA glasshouse is a greenhouse:)) I am a painter who sells plants! :)))I really am in the middle of river crossing! Not only I have to adapt myself to a lot of new responsibilities, new people, new home and everything but also after spending a lot of time in solitude( though I lived with my father mostly I was on my own) now all of a sudden I am exposed to the world both outwardly and inwardly. There are longings and fears in me like there has never been before. But as you have mentioned I have to be patient and let things settle for a while all of it is too much to digest it takes time. I do hope that I can cross this river in a peaceful way.For naw I do know that I have gone through some parts I can feel that I have changed from that girl who put herself in one sided love stories.Thank you again seeing54 really scared me it brings so many bad memories your explanation made me see it in another way. And also going through changing lines is really helpful.

HEX 27: CORNERS OF THE MOUTH/NOURISHMENT
Nourishment of the body (Lines 1-3) Nourishment of the others spiritually (Line 4-6)
Nourish yourself first. Take care of yourself first both physically and spiritually. Those people/relationships you want to know first observe how others nourish themselves. By taking care of yourself first you will create a position of strength...build your confidence, create a sense of security in your life so that you can show up with your best. From this position you can observe those around you and determine if they are someone you would want to have in your life. Have a sense of poise, composure and temperament in all that you do.

Line 2: This line directly addresses your ability to provide for yourself. You do not feel confident in the way you support yourself you will experience uncertainty. First find your feet. Get yourself setup to win so you will not be dependent upon anyone and you can feel confident in yourself. Do not look to the smallness of your situation but to the greatness of what you have created thus far and what lies ahead.

Line 4: Find passion and be hungry like the tiger. This represents great confidence to achieve your best. Remember to seek support because no one is alone in this world. Find like minded hunters to encourage and bring up that energy to excite your spirit to personal greatness. Be like an eagle and sore high and not like the chicken pecking at the ground.

Line 6: The summit and source of all that nourishes has been reached. You are prepared and know how to distinguish between the users and the real deal. Your growth and nourishment of your body and spirit brings you to a place of strength. From this position of strength you are now able to take the chances in life and love. These chances can be won or lost without lost to your energy and spirit. You can recover if things fail and prevail if things are successful.

HEX 54: Marrying Maiden
The Marrying Maiden describes a woman who can maneuver in a relationship and make the right choices to create a successful union. She is often a little bolder and makes choices of her own but still is tactful. With the success of nourishment you will have more choice in how you respond as opposed to being at the will of others response. You have control.

This is inaccurate. The I Ching text in 54 says that action brings misfortune. It is not advisable to be bold when you are in a 54 position, as this is a lower / lesser position, without any authority or control.

...but I think it is correct that she does has room to manoeuvre. Being in the postion of the marrying maiden means she has limited control but it doesn't mean she has none at all. She still has a choice of how she herself acts. If a woman goes to the home of the husband's family she is at a disadvantage yet still she can either ingratiate herself and make herself useful - or not. By line 5 she's doing pretty well I think and in line 1 she manages.

But it's true I don't think 54 actually denotes a position of being in control - far from it

thank you for the feedback. I will review HEX 54

In response to the Marrying Maiden. She is a woman who voluntarily and "with gladness" (Wilhelm, 1997, 208) comes into this marriage as one who is subject to the "chief wife"/first wife. She understands her duty and position thus maintaining order and the integrity of the marriage and the relationship with first wife. The Marrying Maiden has limitations placed upon her. Limitations are "ordained by duty and voluntary acceptance." (Wilhelm, 1997, 232) thus she is able to "achieve significance through discrimination and the setting of limits." (Wilhelm, 1997, 232). Limits as defined by duty "attains significance as a free spirit" (Wilhelm, 1997, p. 232). A free spirited person, as the Marrying Maiden, has control and is able to maneuver within their situation. We all have limitations and we all voluntarily accept and recognize our duty. It does not mean we do not have control of our life or we are subjugated. In reference to the interpretation, Monijh has limitations given to her new and exciting and challenging situation but she can define how she controls her emotions, what she wants, and who she loves and which are bound by duty/job/income and she voluntarily accepting her situation. To voluntarily accept is control. I choose.

Wow this has gone beyond my knowledge of Iching. What I do know is being in Marrying Maiden position is not easy, I do feel the limitations with all the new responsibilities and situations and money issues but I don’t feel powerless the fact is that I feel bold and I have respect for me doing all the stuff. All the limitations of the situation put me in a position of understanding the necessities, like first get myself good at what I do as a job or manage my income instead of chasing after someone who doesn’t care for me! I don’t have time for it.

Empowerment! My experience of the I Ching is that there 64 hexagrams unique in form yet all connected. If they were not connected then how do you embrace the philosophy. I took from the HEX 60 limitations to support HEX 54. The reference I am using is Wilhelm and if you read both hexagrams there are words and comments that are saying the same exact thing. Monijh I have only been study the I Ching for 4 years. The I Ching has been in my life at some capacity thru my mother since 17. My father has studied extensively. I have a very extensive library around the I Ching. I did not work it like I do now. I barely understood it. It has been in presence for so long. I use to play with it but nothing like this.

I am putting myself out there because I want to challenged by someone who has more experience than I do. I have someone I have been doing readings for the last four years and I jumped into it and learned as I worked with her. She is the one that directed me to the I Ching through my father. She told me that I would find a book and when I opened I would know what to do with it. It happened just like that and my life has changed ever since.
