I have been working on this novel since August and am in revision with it now. I am reading a really good book on story structure and plot and part of me says to go ahead and revise my work based on the instructions shared within that book but that will require some rethinking and reworking to a lot of the structure already in the story. Another part of me says to stick with what I have but that I might miss out on some literary nuances that I wouldn't be able to develop if I ignore the advice of the book I read, which breaks things down that I had never considered but would surly bring added dimensions to my book which I would like because I believe wholeheartedly that my characters' stories deserve to be told to the best of my ability.

I did consult the oracle a few times on this topic and not because I kept getting answers I didn't want but because I don't believe I had yet made the question clear or personal enough. So, in the spirit of Jung, I consulted the oracle, personifying my book and asking it what it thinks about me starting over again. Here is what I got:

49.4 -> 63

Any help in understanding this would be phenomenal. Thank you.

Here is what RL Wing says about 49.4:

"A radical change is at hand. If your position is correct, your motives worthwhile and you are properly prepared, the new situation will bring great good fortune."

Here is what Hilary says:

Regrets vanish, there is truth and confidence.
Changing mandate, good fortune.

"You are ready: the revolution is already underway. You cannot regret the past when you inhabit the present moment, trusting the unfolding changes, and trusting yourself. This is the time when spiritual authority is taken from the old ruler and given to the new. So our guiding principles change, and with them your sense of what you are to do. The new will be better than the old."

If it's a matter of re-working what you had done before, maybe that is not such a sacrifice, since you only started it in August. That is only a few months' work we are talking about, not years.

Hello friend:

I think I Ching answers your question very clearly.

Hex 49 stands for "Change and Revolution", and the line code of Hex 49.4 says "If you change your actions sincerely, you will have good luck. " That means starting it over again is a good choice.

The changin hex - Hex 63 stands for "Finished and Successful", so you will be successful after starting it over again.

Good luck!

Besides, when you make a prediction with I Ching, you should not ask a question too many times. Why?

I Ching predicts the future according to your subconscious mind. If you ask one question time and time again, you will be disturbed and your subconscious mind will not be able to give away the answer.

That' why I Ching says "If you predict only once, you will find the answer; if you predict many times, you will not find the answer." (The hex code of Hex 4: Enlightenment)

Within the context of your question, it seems to me that Revolution represents an "overturning", a "making the old new", a "renewal". It especially indicates "overturning an obsolete structure".

Your intention/question seems appropriately sincere, fulfilling the mandate of the 4th line (you write: "I believe wholeheartedly that my characters' stories deserve to be told to the best of my ability").

Hexagram 63, After Completion, may in this context signify that your novel has come to an end as it is and the next stage is "After" completion--you still have work to do.

If it were me, I'd rework it with my new sense of dramatic structure.

All the Best
