As my other thread mentions, I've separated from my husband and am at the beginning stages of a divorce.

Unsurprisingly, funds are tight (and will probably continue to be), so I'm reflecting on how to boost income and reduce expenses.

I rent an apartment in a city, and it is from being physically present there that most of my work (and income) come from; it is also there that I am most in contact with humans (clients, friends, colleagues). I own a house in the country, where I have much peace and solitude (alone, but not lonely) and where I can produce the work I landed in the city in a more conducive creative environment. This house is my safe haven and I wish to protect and keep it any way I can.

One way to reduce expenses is to move out of the apartment in the city and live full-time in the country. This will reduce income too, lest I find a way to reorient my work and so on (but that's another question!)

So I asked the I ching "Will I be moving out of my apartment in the city?" and got 58.1.2.5 to 16, which sounded pretty positive save for l. 5 when it says "trusting in stripping away, danger." Stripping what: income source? social fabric? But in moving to 16 (enthusiasm), it sounds like it would turn out OK.

To see whether such a move would mean settling at the house, i asked "where would I be moving if I left the apartment?" and received 52.3.6 to 2.
52.3 says This refers to enforced quiet. The restless heart is to be subdued by forcible means. But fire when it is smothered changes into acrid smoke that suffocates as it spreads. Yeah, at the house, one could imagine enforced quiet, smothering the fire of networking and landing work, leading to a sort of suffocation.
But then 52.6 is more positive, This marks the consummation of the effort to attain tranquillity. One is at rest, not merely in a small, circumscribed way in regard to matters of detail, but one has also a general resignation in regard to life as a whole, and this confers peace and good fortune in relation to every individual matter. it echoes how I feel when I am at the house, there is a centered serenity in all I do here (inside, intellectually, outside).
Changing to hex 2 feels again like it is talking about the house, the land, and the receptiveness to it all. But the source of livelihood does not, at least at this time, come from this environment / location.

Am I understanding this properly or is there a lot more here than this beginner's eyes can sense?

Thank you for your wise insights :bows:

Will I be moving?
58.1.2.5 > 16

58 alone suggests that you will not be moving any time soon. Marshes (Lakes) do not move. You do not consider selling you home in the country and living full time in the apartment, so I suppose that for psychological reasons that is not now an option, but usually there is a reduction of income and an increase in expenses as a result of divorce, and maintaining two residences is definitely expensive. If you have the resources to sustain dual residences, then a decision can be delayed. Else, one residence will need to go. Since your income depends on your apartment, I think you should keep it. However, the Image of 16 says,

Thunder comes resounding out of the earth:
The image of Enthusiasm.
Thus the ancient kings made music
In order to honor merit,
And offered it with splendor
To the Supreme Deity,
Inviting their ancestors to be present.

If the country residence is your ancestral home, then best to keep it.

Hi Pocossin,

Though the country house is not, strictly speaking, my ancestral home, in many ways I consider it as such. All other things being equal (setting aside other considerations, be it employment or social activities), were I compelled to play Solomon between the two abodes, the house would win hands down (besides, the flat is tiny, a rental and not terribly "zen"!!)

I'm not rushing into any decisions at this time, letting the chips fall where they may. Sometimes, other opportunities just crop up or the right decision becomes evident. In asking the question, I wanted to see what the undercurrents were at this time to start wrapping my head around different scenarios -- I like to digest things first!

Thanks for your insights :)
