Greetings all, I'm new to the group :)

I've been going through an especially rough period in my life past couple of months, and I recently returned to consult Yijing. And each time, I am simply awed with the response. It's precision and it's abilities to fathom and reflect a situation is in itself unfathomable.

Anyhow, I would like to share a recent consultation (in fact I consulted Yijing last night in this case) and perhaps some members will be able to share their viewpoint. I would like clarity on the meaning of the one moving line, namely, line 6 of hexagram 12 Standstill/Obstruction in relation to my query/situation. So here it is:

"Should I send my CV to X (this is the HR person involved) for one of the advertised client service consultant positions?"

Now, some background:

I left this company due to office politics that got out of hand, and I was the sacrificial victim, so to speak. The team manager and I just did not get on, and she secretly instigated an HR investigation with allegations of aggressive behaviour towards colleagues. The investigations were carried out not in accordance with company procedure and I was ill-informed of the basis of the allegation. I was left hanging for about 2 or 3 weeks not knowing what was being said about me. I eventually couldn't tolerate the long delay in not getting feedback, and some other members of the team who without good reason, took a dislike to me, were abusive and rude towards me. At one point, I took my bag and was walking out to air my grievance before the necessary institutional body about the unacceptable violations of my rights going on in the workplace. However, the team manager prevented me from doing so. To cut the story short, the Centre Manager (the one who had appointed that team manager in the first place) and I had a fall out when I took him on about the procedural irregularities. This instigation had just flown up to HR, having merely being signed off by him or the team manager, thus without going through the necessary resolution of grievance steps.

Anyhow, he decided to take early retirement soon afterwards, and after I heard that, I had become so fed up with the entire situation, I put in my resignation myself. At this time, the HR Manager had stepped in and was in the process of finding me a suitable vacancy elsewhere in the organisation.

Anyhow, I recently approached them again for a job, saying that I thought I made a mistake to leave. But then I kept coming up against a block of sorts from the HR Consultant who had advertised these jobs, and who also told me that there were no vacancies just the day before the advert. This is the same person who did the grievance handling. I asked the HR Manager, who is no longer her boss, due to alleged restructuring that she has not replied to my question as to why she told me that there were no positions going. I got a reply on Sunday, after I asked the previous HR Manager for the name of the suitable person to address the matter, and she obviously contacted this HR Consultant and told her to reply to me. In this reply I get told to send the CV and the normal recruitment process will be followed.

The Yijing response, as I said above, was Obstruction. Stop! Obstacles, blocked communication; cut off, closed, failure; people of no use or worth to you; punishment, execution, the sacrifical victim.

Your situation is described in terms of being blocked or interfered with. The way to deal with it is to stop what you are doing and accept the obstruction. Do not become the victim of the sacrifice. Communication is cut off. You are connected with the wrong people. If you try to act, you will encounter misfortune. Your proposals will be rejected. You will be personally disapproved of. There is no way to take advantage of this situation. Retreat and be patient.

However, what confuses me is Line 6, the only moving line in my response: It says -

Subverting Obstruction. First bad! then rejoicing.

Obstruction is completed. Why let this last? You see an obstruction and think you are cut off, but the very thing causing you pain is suddenly turned on its head. What used to be an obstruction becomes a cause to rejoice. Thank Heaven the bad time is over! Let it all go.
Direction: Gather people and resources for a great new project. Proceed step by step. Gather energy for a decisive new move.

So, does this mean I should send my CV or should I just give up? :)

This is a great example of a hexagram 12.6 situation ... a long history of grievances and things going wrong on the level of communications and relationships.

I would say: Send it and see what happens, Baby Dragon.

In my experience, any action we take with line 12.6 is not the answer with a capital "A," but it can represent an opening up of the previously blocked situation. It will take work in terms of re-imagining how this situation could work and not just be painful. Sometimes situations remain painful because we just find it hard to let go of bad memories of all the horrible stuff that happened in the past. But new beginnings do exist, especially if we can stay in a creative, playful frame of mind.

Ok, I asked now the question:

Will I be called in for an interview by X?

I received as response Hexagram 41 with lines 5 and 6 kinetic.

Both lines appear to be extremely favourable. Your views? :bows:

Hi Baby Dragon,
Hex 41 is the quintessential hexagram of working for a living. What is beneath (you), gives to what is above (the company).

However, good fortune is coming to you and nothing can hold it back, Baby Dragon.

Not only will you get an interview, but it looks like the job will be yours, too.

Approach the job interview with the mindset that they have already awarded you the position, and you'll be doing the right thing.

Thanks once again Ginnie

Thanks again Ginnie :bows:

I'm surprised by Yijing's response admittedly, because I've been going through in my head doubts about whether X will even present my CV. But now given both Yijing's response and your confirmation of its interpretation, I am feeling happy. Will keep you posted :)

Oh, I want to thank you using the Thank option I see on some posts, but I don't know how to do it. How do I do this?

No news yet

Yes, please come back and say what happened!

I haven't heard anything, so I asked Yijing "why have I not heard anything from X regarding my job application?"

I received Hexagram 54 with line 2 moving. This is the Marrying Maiden and line 2 doesn't read positively to me. In fact this response appears to contradict my previous reading from Yijing. I'm confused

Jack M. Balkin's interpretation of the line reads:

"A one-eyed person has been injured or blinded but is still able to carry on. 'The perseverance of a solitary person' means sticking with your beliefs even if others have abandoned you.

Things have not turned out as you hoped they would. But it is important not to let disappointments undermine your ability to cope with life. Do not become bitter or angry at the world. Do not forsake your convictions. You must continue to have faith in yourself and in your original vision. Remain committed to what you believe is true and right. It is up to you now to carry on, even if you have to do so alone. Devotion to your principles will ultimately bring you success."

What happened? Why do my readings now conflict?

I've been asking whether my coin values are correct or not. I've been using heads = 3 and tails = 2. But I see elsewhere these values are reversed. I've also lost my I Ching coins that showed yang or yin. :(

The readings are not in conflict. Yi is asking you to be more patient.

It's only natural to doubt sometimes, though. I hope your yin/yang coins show up!

You might read Stephen Karcher's take on 54.2: 'The place of the hidden spirit workers. The junior wife keeps a low profile. Stay out of sight for now.'

The implication is that your resume has already been read and your job is in the works -- otherwise you wouldn't have gotten the hexagram for a 'junior wife,' a subordinate at work. Many employees get hex 54 when it comes to their work and the attitude they must take toward it.

What a cute name:). I like Ginnie's take on this... Sounds promising. I've been doing a lot of job searching lately, and those are the kinds of responses I was getting at this point in the hiring process too. Usually it just takes a little time for things to sort out. Best wishes BabyD;).
