I have an unbelievably extreme allergy to mold, and my washing machine started producing clothes that made me sick. I was going to replace it, but I just realized that I may be able to solve the problem by replacing the gasket. It's a fairly involved job, though, and it requires an expensive, specialized tool. Dealing with this washing machine problem has been a HUGE deal already, so putting a bunch more energy into it will be a real drag if it doesn't work out. OTOH, if it does work, it'll give me a greater sense of control, plus it'll save money on replacing the machine.

So I asked the I Ching about it, and I got 38.2.6 to 51. I'm inclined to see that as positive. Someone suggested this approach to me, when I was asking about something else, so that may be the master I met in the lane. And line 6 seems like it's suggesting that this problem, which has seemed so thoroughly awful, is actually an opportunity -- which could mean that it's an opportunity to feel more control over this issue in the future.

Any thoughts?

Hi julie,
Yes your friend who suggested this sounds like the informal meeting at the lane, and line 38.6 sounds sort of 'ok' too. Resulting 51, however, sounds very ominous to me, especially since you're asking about electrical equipment. I personally wouldn't risk it with this answer.

Hi Julie,

Based on this reading I would also consider the repair option worthwhile. Just thinking that line 2 being a more casual, informal approach (meeting the lord in an alley) it might be the case to speak to people who can do the job without committing yourself straight away, but initially asking for a quote, discussing ideas, taking suggestions. Line 6 is good to bring relief when we are looking at something as a major issue, when it is not, and when we see threats and harm, when there is actually an opportunity, as you say. So it does seem to indicate this is the way to go.

Thanks to both of you.

I was thinking of 51 as the context. This problem has been a big shake-up, disturbing the usual patterns. I really, really rely on having a functional washing machine, so this has been pretty nightmarish (along with various other problems at the same time). I heard that as encouraging me to keep my head in the midst of the chaos.

I'm inclined at this point to go ahead, but instead of doing it myself, I'm going to have a repair person do it. He said he has a method that doesn't require the specialized tool, so I'm going to see how he does, so that if I ever need to do it again, I'll be able to do it without too much difficulty myself. I'll report back on whether it works.

Great idea to let a repair person do it, hope it works out!

Hi Julie,

Sorty to hear that. I'm quite surprised because I've had these lines before so many times, for a variety of questions. We do know, though, that readings can play out different ways sometimes, but I am still wondering if this reading is still ongoing and there is something else to happen. Either way, thanks for your feedback that adds to our personal record and experience.
