This seemed a good moment to start a thread on experiences with hex 18 unchanging....since the whole site is now being upgraded from decay to......a whole new expereince....if I can find the right buttons.....where's my glasses.....

But I cannot recall at all any specific experiences with 18 unchanging as answer. I probably have cast it as much as anything else but suspect I drew such a complete blank I have erased all memory.

From Lise's long ago summary of this pair, she has for 17 and 18 ;

Make your road correct

17 - follow the right things and time
18- fix what is not right
I think the wall I tend to hit with 18 uc is not being sure if the thing I've asked about is essentially unfixable or quite the reverse. It could possibly be either I think depending on context, or if one is asking for prediction of an external situation or advice. Either way I've obviously not been able to make much use of 18uc as an answer or I would have remembered it. I have the feeling I have cast it re situations out of my control, questions where I was asking what would happen and there was a fizzling out of the situation.....but I just can't remember. Clearly the synapses for hex 18 are in a state of disrepair !

Wings says of 18 uc

This hexagram in it's static form points to the necessity of a change in attitude about your environment as a whole. Settled above, the mountainous weight of the trigram KEN, stillness, holds immovable SUN, the trigram of gentle effects. Too many elements in your life have reached a sate of neglect, disrepair and inertia. You cannot hope to guide your destiny with any effectiveness when you do not have authority and control over everyday situations. Hope lies in an unrelentingly energetic and conscientous attitude.

So Wing is going all for energetic repair which sure enough is what 18 involves but sometimes, it can be merely descriptive of a situation....like autumn time perhaps

While hex 37 is The Family so many times 18 seems to come up around family stuff ...inherited patterns and so on

Only one 18 unchanging in my journal. I cast it at random on the old Flash reading I had here, the one that used the Wilhelm/Baynes illegally. At the time I knew I needed to do something about this, maybe get a new text and get hold of the programmer to replace it, but I hadn't got round to starting. I opened the program to get the programmer's contact details, and with no question, just reminding myself of how the program worked, I cast 18 unchanging.

(Never did get it fixed - I eventually got in touch with the original programmer and got started, but he got busy with other things and disappeared.)

It needed fixing, I knew it needed fixing - that was all I took from the reading at the time. Don't know if it meant 'unfixable'...

I meant unfixable in the sense that an over ripe banana rotting in the fruit bowl is unfixable. The natural process of putrification, rotting, decay. My feeling is 18uc can sometimes refer to this process just as it is.
I'm sure I've seen it refer to this process just as it is.....but can recall no examples...

I would probably find examples if I looked at the old journals that rest against the damp wall the landlord never fixes

I recently cast it for a question about a home loan I'm about to apply for, the question was show me a picture of having this home loan, 18 uc, the purpose of the home loan is to consolidate some debt, work to pay it off but also to be able to undertake some major maintainance for my house, have to get new fences and want to re-roof at some stage. I can see that fitting 18 quite well, take off all the decaying bits of my house, clean it up and renew, but also for paying the debt , in that other sense of 18 where the noble one rouses the people , being that I have to rally myself to get the debt out of high interest credit cards, into this low ingest account and work consistently to pay it off.

That makes sense to me. I think of 18 in general as including the meaning 'here's an opportunity to fix what's messed up'.

You could actually apply either take to my Flash-reading-with-Wilhelm example: that particular script might have been as beyond fixing as a rotting banana (I don't think anything is going to revive the fortunes of Flash), but the need for change was an opportunity to make my own translation more available.

I prefer the 'opportunity to fix' to the 'rotting fruit' take, though.

- me, trying to put up a wardrobe for 3yrs by now (ridiculouse, yes)

- An unfulfilled desire fastened Mr. H's heartbeat every time a woman resembled her. She had left him 4 yrs ago. I took him another 5 yrs to release the repressed cause.

When recieving 18uc I take this as a warning, that it will be difficult to get a grip on the work/action that is truly required. Working on what has been spoilt now or with my present approach, will only remove some symptoms, but won't expose or get to the root cause (creating success from the SOURCE). To get there requires immersing into the 54 process: maturing, new paradigm, etc.

In case of a loan for the house and old, neglected debts, I would for instance take from 18uc messages like: doublechek about the right methods and workers and the true amount of renovation, doublececk about my way to deal with money. Maybe my account even ends up worse.... I don't mean to be personal here, I just try to give an impression of what I mean.

May I plead to use the phrase 'working on what has been spoilt' instead of 'fixing, repairing' etc? Because with 18 sometimes things are beyond repair (banana) then transcending one's approach would be the corrective action ( take banana to the zoo instead of eating it myself)

You have been trying to erect a wardrobe for 3 years ? I love that as an image of 18uc and it just feels right. Not that other views aren't also right...but what you have written really rings a bell with me. I think I've noticed some of what you describe subliminally and not recorded it cos it kind of makes you tired doesn' t it. I had a friend who had an unerected garden archway in her living room for 3 years.

I like this

Everything is in Yi somewhere and the natural process of rotting has to be in there somewhere....and yes sometimes transcending the approach to fixing has to be way through.....for example banana bread requires over ripe bananas

Yes....the friend kept the garden archway, still in it's flatpack in her living room for at least 3 years and when she finally did erect it was preposterously large for the tiny garden. There it was sitting there for years, requiring some sort of action..but the appropriate action wasn't either leaving it there or erecting the massive edifice in the tiny garden. She didn't cast 18uc over this but it just came to mind.....along with all the other stuff that sits in places for a long time neither being fixed nor being removed.

I wonder if sometimes 18uc shows something that just can't function in it's current incarnation....like the picture frame I have with no back. I keep thinking I will find the back but I never do so it's useless...it's in perpetual 18. I should throw it away or recycle it....perhaps 18uc can point at these kinds of recycling decisions. Although I had no specific instances certainly this feeling of 18uc is near to what Fallada describes, for me.

" ... the massive edifice in the little garden" .... Thank you, Trojan, for the good laugh with my coffee. Send my regards to the arch owner!
And yes, I'm so tired.

Well, whadda you know, i am a programmer, not flash, but C++, C#, ASP.NET and stuff. My mother teaches flash programming courses.

If you only need to replace the text, and you have the source-codes, i can try.
(did a reading on this, 53.5.6 -> 15 ;))

I must have it somewhere... easier to mislay than a flat-packed garden arch in a living room, of course. Only I don't know if swf file = source code...? But I can see this taking the thread off topic beyond repair - I'll pm you!

What do I need to be aware of? 18uc. No clue. Next day, physician's assistant found a nodule on the right side of my thyroid when I went in for a physical as part of a final step in getting a new job.

(Still had old job, but lost the new job due to the testing, surgery, recovery process and spent over a year adjusting thyroid med doses up and down. Now, the left side seems to be compensating on it's own just fine and as an added bonus a better job in a better location came up all of which, naturally, I'm very happy.)

Hello all :)

I got 18 unchanging in a recent reading I did and I'm confused about what action to take. Basically, if something is in bad shape you either fix it or get rid of it (eliminating something that isn't needed can also be considered a solution). Which one this time?

I asked what would be the best course of action regarding this person who I like very much, but have had troubling and painful experiences with.

I think the general image of 18 illustrates the situation well. Things definitely feel spoiled between us, and it's undeniable that it is this way because mistakes have been made. I asked for advice on what to do about it, trying to keep it open enough to receive advice in any direction. I didn't get anything obvious with keywords like separation or reconciliation, and I've been cracking my head trying to find which direction to go from this hexagram.

It seems this can be taken two different ways (excerpts from Wilhelm/Baines):

1. "the conditions embody a
demand for removal of the cause." Removal of the cause - this person is making me miserable since the conditions between us two aren't good, and I should cut them out of my life at least temporarily until I feel better (strongly leaning toward this one).

2. "What has been spoiled through man's fault can be made good again through
man's work." & "Work toward improving conditions promises well, because it accords the
possibilities of the time." - I should not give up on them despite the difficulties and work toward making things between us better, being careful not to repeat past mistakes. I find this unlikely to happen, perhaps "improving conditions" means not to try to fix things with this person, but to distance myself from them instead?

It would have been near perfect if I had asked for an overview of the situation, but I need help on how to act... I know it's a lot, but if anyone can give insight on this it will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hex 18 is Wind or Wood inside Mountain. When the air is stagnant, or the wood finds no way out to grow to the light, things get spoiled. Without lines I'd look at ways to get fresh air and light in. No work to mend things, just refresh, renew your life, your heart. New, clean and healthy.

yes it depends on whether you see "the cause" of your misery (what needs to be cut out) as the person who's making you miserable, or the problem between you that needs to be sorted to restore a good relationship. But if you're leaning toward taking at least a temporary break from this person--to let some air & light in, as heylise says--that is probably a great start, whatever you decide to do down the line.

Yeah, I originally posted it on shared readings where I assumed was the right place. I don't have the option to delete my post here though, so just ignore it I guess. Or a mod can do it if they like. Thanks for the replies anyway.

wow this thread has been going for over a year. Can I just add, in an act of brave transparency and humility, that this home loan has just stagnated. And my current plans to sell the house are based largely around needing to pay it off. No that is was a bad decision, it did make the debt less worse than it could have been. But the number never got lower, only ever able to pay off interest rates. Its not the end of the world, but I thought it pertinent to add here, as whilst my outlook was positive, as it always is, 18 uc ... it meant just that.

Received hexagram 18 uc in regard to an overdue hospital bill.

My boyfriend's insurance covers emergency room visits 100%, or so I thought when we went to the ER for his heart palpitations. They did an EKG and a bunch of other tests and sent us home. No bill was discussed or payment or anything, we just gave them our insurance card and went home when they said he seemed alright.

well, three months later we got a bill from them for the visit that was apparently delinquent and overdue, though we literally had no idea we were going to be billed for that at all. I thought I had made some horrible mistake.

I asked the IC, what's going to happen with this? 18, removing corruption.

The following monday I called the insurance company and explained that I thought there must be some mistake. After checking their records, they discovered that the cause for his visit had been entered into their database as a 'skin rash' instead of the real reason, which was heart palpitations. The thing is, the insurance only covers real emergencies, not something like a cold or a skin rash, but heart palpitations definitely counts as an emergency. Someone somewhere really messed that up. After talking with a few more people and clearing things up, we were told to disregard the bill, thankfully, and I'm glad I looked into it.

Interestingly, I read on a financial recovery website last year that it's important to hire someone to make sure your hospital has charged you correctly, in the US there's some 70% (give or take, it's a huge percentage, I don't remember exactly but it's well over more than half) of all hospital bills have some kind of mistake. That's, an astronomical amount of overcharges or mistakes. The fact that somewhere along the lines all those heart tests my boyfriend went through could ever get mistaken to have been for a skin rash is very suspicious to me, as well as the fact that we only received word of the debt after it was considered delinquent, which of course it was because we weren't told about it.

There's no way to be sure if the hospital made a genuine mistake or if someone's pulling the strings to bring in a profit, but either way, thankfully, we fixed the problem.

My suggestion for anyone who might go to the hospital is that you consider hiring someone who specializes in looking into hospital bills to make sure they charged you correctly, it could really save you a lot of money.

I got h18 about a dream:

I suddenly found myself in a black void, laying on my back, looking down at my chest.
Over the heart was a black rectangular box with two wires coming out of it.
But around the contact points the wires were very thin so I decided to cut them, and when I did my heart started to race very fast. I felt panic and thought "Why did I have to mess with it? Oh nooo" and then my Dad appeared and I asked him to get to the nearest clinic to repair this box (I thought it was a pacemaker, but in real life I absolutely don't need or use one).

While he was gone or maybe he was having some problems with it .. protracting time maybe, I realized that this device wasn't a pacemaker, it was just slowing the vibration from a higher frequency to an appropriate one (reference to Dolores Cannon's books I think, we are light beings and need to lower the frequency to live in this dense body). I also started to feel hot, as my heart revved up, and I liked it. It's summer in Moscow but the day (more like whole week) was rather cold and windy and I didn't like it at all. So maybe my heart was compensating for me feeling cold, adjusting to feel more warm.

I think I managed to reconnect this device by myself but with adjustment of the frequency, so it wouldn't slow the heart too much now. I had a feeling that the box had gone out of normal working range or that my body was ready for a new frequency, and it was time to re-calibrate it.

The question was: "What was that dream about? This black box, please comment"
I think some mental blocks were removed that night, or my spirit guides/ETs made some adjustments to my body to make it lighter, closer to spirit/light energy in preparation of the Earth's shift to higher frequency.

We'll see.

I've had two experiences with hex 18uc.

The first focuses on a few years ago when I was going through a rough patch and contemplated leaving my wife for someone else. In the end I chose not to, because I knew I was depressed and ending the marriage and causing everyone, including our children, to go through the pain & misery of a divorce, which I endured as a child, was not the answer. Also I had several months of therapy that helped a great deal. My wife suggested at one point that I perhaps I didn't leave because I was scared. Since my feelings for the other woman were genuine, I wondered what would have happened had I left, so I cast and got 18uc.

I immediately understood: I would have been continuing the corruption passed down from my ancestors. My father, and his father, AND his father all abandoned their families. It took me a long time to get over my father leaving us when I was young, and I didn't want to do the same to my children. While h18 also hints at healing, I feel the healing of leaving my family would have been long and painful, more difficult than the road I did choose.

My second experience with hex 18uc has occurred recently and still slowly unfolding. I have a manuscript of poems currently being considered by two publishers--both have had it for the past 2-3 months. They're poems I've written (& some published) over the past 5-6 years. So I'm anxious to hear a decision. When I asked the I Ching what would be the decision of one of the two publishers, I got 18uc, which I'm thinking means either 'Their decision is fixed and can't be altered--it will be what it is' or it's referring to my anxiousness to receive an answer, rather than to get on with writing more poems and that the publisher's answer will come when it comes. I've been told this one publisher will give me an answer by Christmas, so maybe I'll have more insight then.

As a side note, when I asked the same question about the other publisher, interestingly I got 23.6->2, which I took to mean that I should leave these poems be--they're of the past and done (ripe fruit on the ground), and I should take my cart and move onto a new field, which I've already been doing these past few months: taking my poetry in a different direction. Maybe this has a bit of a tie-in with hex 18uc in the companion reading.

Sorry this was so long in the end. :bows:

Amazingly clear example of 18uc and how you 'immediately understood' it. Thank you :bows:

Mmm it's harder to say with this one isn't it. Hilary wrote of her recent experience of 18uc in Wikiwing

and it was also one she said she immediately understood. There was some offer on the internet to buy something that was a low price FOR ONE DAY ONLY ! You know the kind of thing, they are trying to create a sense of urgency to make you buy. She asked about it and got 18uc which she took as showing she'd be buying into old patterns of being sucked into that kind of thing so she didn't buy it.

18 can be seen as a 'curse' of a kind, something that comes back to haunt us, pulling us back into the swampy 'can of worms'. 17uc as it's counterpart/opposite might be a prayer or a wish. It recently occurred to me when someone spoke of their concern for a friend, praying for them and getting 17uc that a prayer was in a sense the opposite of a curse. Going by Hilary's experience your 18uc about the poem might well be your sense of anxiety about it. Let us know what happens.

Yes I think it does tie in with the 18uc answer but don't forget the ripe fruit is yours to take with you. The seeds from it will grow in the new place you are going. So it isn't that the older poems are lost or wasted, you stll have the seeds.
