I considered 23 to be the most horrifying of all hexagrams, but the experiences of people with it haven't been that bad. Pretty OK.
One time I received 23 and it came out as unveiling something rather fortunate.

Its name and judgement (oracle) seem dire, though the latter doesn't involve "misfortune"; while the image shows tranquil homes below the mountain. Assuring somehow.

I don't know how to interpret 23.

Another job I was interviewing for was a lot more desirable but seemed to be more competitive. I had to withdraw from that interview process (I was like 4 months in by that point) because the offer for my current job expired in 3 days. Definitely felt like a loss, as it was in academics/teaching and I enjoy teaching a lot. Perhaps 23uc meant I would have to give up that job opportunity to pursue my current job.

Hopefully you didn't lose out on the favoured job through pressure to take the current one but it's possible the 23 was to do with that. You mean you were four months into the selection process for the academic job and then had to take this one ?

I don't think it's horrifying, no answer should be horrifying, but it can hurt because having things taken away hurts. But sometimes it doesn't hurt when you don't mind losing it.

The advice in the Image is to pay heed to what is supporting you, be generous in going with the time, don't resist, let things erode, let what you have go to those below you.

A made up example comes to mind of pop stars or TV personalities with shows etc that suddenly become unfashionable. Can you imagine that, it must be hard, suddenly everything taken from you. The ones that get through that okay are the ones who don't resist or get bitter but who just let it happen and go and do other things. Everything they had now goes to other people but it is a good idea to be generous in the losing because well it creates good fortune further on.

That was very much the reason. The academic job had a very slow drawn out interview process (how colleges usually operate in US) and in the midst of that interview process I received a job offer for a studio position in the private sector. Definitely wonder what would have happened if I turned down the offer since I saw red flags back then (actually cast hex 5uc about outcome if I stuck with the academic job). But I was feeling destitute and impatient and figured any job was better than none. I made it to the final round of interviews with the college so perhaps should have stuck it out.

Very difficult decision to make. Do you think it's worth contacting the college again ? Who knows maybe the person they got didn't work out.

Also I wonder if on being offered the studio position you could have told the college you were under pressure with another job offer to move them along a bit. Still no use thinking about what we could have done but if the college think you are available again...well it might be worth a shot ?

Certainly not easy... I'll contact them in the future to see if they have openings. Always loved giving lectures.

I was on the fence about telling them about the offer, probably should have. I'll update if any movement comes about on that front. Or if 23uc has more ominous implications for my current job :cloud: (these emojis remind me of early 2000s AOL)

Yes we wanted to keep the old school emojis, they are better than the new ones so Hilary saved them.

Is it an impecable action to send someone a poem I wrote about them?
23uc
No way. This person does not give a hoot about my views, my agenda. Yi understands it could superficially make sense to connect the poem with its original inspiration, but the very creative force (I had 1 -1,2,3,4,5 - 23 right before about that person) that released the poem will only be out and manifested in the world when I get off the train (to use Hilary's image in another 23 post) that person/story is on.

I just had a 23 uc and am starting to consider the shedding of skin in the sense of witnessing renewal going on when I feel hopeful, in which case it's a positive change and elimination, since I am not attached to the outgrown skin

Oh. And I have translated Witches Abroad into Portuguese for the Brazilian edition - gotta love Terry Pratchett's humour and wisdom

Here is a rather literal case of 23UC as stripping out something which has decaying foundations.

My mother has an old house which is rented out. That house has a swimming pool, which recently started leaking. Impossible to find the source of the leak or to repair it. We suspect that there has been ground movement following several years of draught, which may have caused a crack in the concrete. The options are 1) spend a LOT of money to build a brand new pool or 2) fill it in, landscape the garden to make it presentable, then sell the house - option for which I cast 23UC.

Bottom line: The pool has decayed beyond repair. And the rest of the house is not far behind in needing substantial renovations. Read the writing on the wall! The time has come to strip away this decaying asset.

So in this case, I would read 23UC not as “stand fast, don’t take action” but as “strip at least the pool / possibly the entire property away”.
