Oh my...

As some may be aware, there have been large ice storms and some flooding in the midwest of the US. Last night I decided to drive north through it, thinking there had been time for the water to recede and for the trees and power poles to be cleared from the road. About 3/4 of the way to my destination (normally a one and a half or two hour drive) I saw flashing lights ahead and slowed to a stop to see the roadway covered with running water and a car in the ditch up to it's windows in the water there, and the road blocked by a rescue vehicle and a pick-em-up truck. If there had not already been an accident right there, the car in the ditch would have been mine, for certain. The vehicles blocking the road were facing my direction, so had made it through the water. I do not know my way around those county roads, so I decided to sit there for awhile until the pick-em-up truck left, and then slowly and carefully drove through the water and on to my destination.

It rained all through the night and this morning the roads were even worse, there was a very heavy fog, and I didn't want to leave until daylight, which meant that I'd be late for work. (sigh...) On my way home I saw many more flooded places in the road. With the help of my trusty map and the daylight which made it possible to see (and which had burned away most of the fog) I made it to work in about 3 hours. I had to turn back and go another way on several occasions.

Feeling greatful and a bit stupid for not having checked the weather forecast, I asked Yi for a comment, and received 61.1.5 > 4. I thought you might enjoy seeing that... *sheepish grin*
