I am confused by how to interpret this reading. I asked "what does this person want me to do?" and received hex 1.5.6>34 as my answer.

Any help would be welcome.

Yes, hard to apply without a context.

Also, your emotional state at the time you performed your reading is something to consider, especially with such powerful answers as these.

Not necessarily. Could be her boss, friend, relative. But you're probably right, considering the history of questions here. :)

Sorry for being elusive. The reading was done in regards to a friendship that has become a bit more complicated due to sexual involvement.

I am confused because there is no commitment between us and I don't want to push for one out of fear of losing his friendship. Also, we live a good distance from each other, so asking for a commitment seems a bit much....not that I wouldn't like one, but I don't want to push for something if he is not comfortable with that.

Line six kind of freaked me out a bit because it seems like, line 5 talks about a decision being made to remain bound to the earth or to take flight (to be exclusive or to remain unattached) and then line six following that....well, two dragons fighting, an arrogant dragon who pushed too far....you can see where I am going with this.

Not sure if Yi is trying to warn me not to exceed my limits, or if my friend wants me to back off.

The lines are so abstract I have a difficult time understanding them.

Something else that I have noticed with my readings in regards to the situation with this person....I keep receiving hex 1 and 17.6 as responses.

17.6 is so strange to me. I am not sure what it means or how it applies or who is the leader or the follower.

Think I am going to put down the coins, meditate and see how all this plays out.

Whatever happens or doesn't happen, the readings I have received pertaining to my involvement with this person have been quite fascinating.

Hex 1 is Mr.Hot and Throbbing but little else, as there is no emotional elements here, its all fire.

***Fire
Crazy World Of Arthur Brown

I am the god of hell f ire and I bring you:
Fire, I'll take you to burn.
Fire, I'll take you to learn.
I'll see you burn!
You fought hard and you saved and learned,
but all of it's going to burn.
And your mind, your tiny mind,
you know you've really been so blind.
Now 's your time burn your mind.
You're falling far too far behind.
Oh no, oh no, oh no, you gonna burn!
Fire, to destroy all you've done.
Fire, to end all you've become.
I'll feel you burn!
You've been living like a little girl,
in the middle of your little world.
And your mind, your tiny mind,
you know you've really been so blind.
Now 's your time burn your mind,
you're falling far too far behind.

If Yi was answering your question directly, I'd say he wants you to be more assertive, assume some leadership and show some initiative, have more confidence, strut your stuff, etc.

Can you say if he's an alpha type guy, or more yielding? Referring especially to your friendship history.

Definitely more yielding.

Not to whip a dead horse or anything, but I did two more readings:

how does he feel about me?
hex 11 unchanging

does he feel any sort of attachment towards me?
hex 58.3.4>5

I already know the answer to this query but I just wanted to show how I keep receiving hexagram 1 when asking about this situation.

Is he using me?
1.1.3.4.6>29

Obviously there is some sort of lesson to be learned from hexagram 1 that I am failing to grasp.

Ok, this sounds kind of bold for here, but it's what I'm seeing.

I think he's a sexual submissive who is waiting (5) for you to dominate him (yang - 1), to take control. He'd like the danger of letting go of control (29). This isn't necessarily limited to sexual activity, but sometimes it is. Maybe just come out and ask him. He's the one who knows if this is true or not. Then it's up to you, whether this is the kind of relationship that would make you happy.

Very, very astute observation. I have noticed a few aspects of that and wondered about it.
Thank you, Meng!

That would make sense because it ties into an earlier reading I did where I got a hex 7 unchanging in regards to whether or not I needed to take a leadership role in this situation.

Interesting.

Oh! Yes, there's an attachment but primarily an open friendship type one, so he's happy enough to chat and connect from time to time.

It suggests he enjoys being with you but nothing of a romantic feeling is indicated.

The lesson is that you are a willing participant, and allowing him to use you, so if you like it, enjoy it while you can.

Thank you, WillowFox! I had the suspicion that was what was going on but wasn't sure and I honestly didn't know how to ask without putting him on the defensive or possibly losing his friendship.

Guess I have some thinking to do. I don't want to be used at all. I am too good for that.

He seems to be pulling back from me a bit so maybe this arrangement is not sitting too well with him. That or he has a new girl to play with. I will put him on the back burner for now. I have other things to deal with and being a second class mare in a stable of other mares is so not on my agenda.

It would be nice to find a man who treats me well and sees me as something more than a sex toy. I thought this guy was different. Guess even the nice guys can be jerks.

Can you elaborate on this? I thought the IC was most useful when you had powerful emotions clouding your mind.

Yeah, apparently. I kept receiving hex 36's after I told him that I liked him and ignored the message. I figured it was a reflection of my own self doubt and insecurity.

I am responsible for putting myself in this situation. No one did it to me. i made the decision. I just wish he had been more open about what was going on then i wouldn't have felt confused.

Yes, there's another lesson, even the "supposedly nice" ones will take advantage "if" you allow them to.
Nothing like generalizing. If this kind of comment were made about women, it would be considered unacceptably offensive. I'm personally offended by your generalizations about how all men are evil, wicked, not to be trusted. Utter trash.

I think a friend deserves to be spoken to personally before conclusions about them are reached. Certainly nothing I'd be told on a forum would decide for me who is or isn't worthy to be my friend.

I have to agree with Meng here....

I loath stereotypes about men or women and they just aren't useful. People are much more complex than that.

Meanwhile, WF would you be so kind as to elaborate line by line how you came to your conclusions?

Thanks

Lucia

There's different views on this. It's not something I can or need to pin down to an absolute. Emotions do sometimes play a part in the answers I receive. And that's really just a common sense view about addressing priorities. I guess you could say that before the Yi performs any aid, it performs a triage.

If I'm emotionally charged when I ask the question, that's likely to color what Yi has to say, and so Yi first might address my charged up emotion.

I thought the IC was most useful when you had powerful emotions clouding your mind.
It could be, because sometimes the truth of the matter only comes out through connecting to our emotional response to it.

However, there's a lot to be said for approaching the Yi with an already steadied heart and mind.

I've come to the Yi with the best and worst possible attitudes. The point is, I come. It won't seek me, I must seek it.

Rules pertaining to Yi are mutable. I prefer having a mental and emotional grasp before approaching Yi, and in the process usually wind up answering my own questions. And that's also a good time to ask Yi, just as a course check.

My voice/emotion comments were flippant, but the thought behind it is legitimate. When I interpret someone's reading privately, I want a bearing on where they are mentally and emotionally, in the moment. For one thing, I know that their state of mind will reflect in their response or reaction to my interpretation.

So, I wouldn't say charged up is better or worse than approaching calm and collected. I think approaching openly with candor, and being a brave scout to take the truth, whatever it is, is what's important.

You're right. He does deserve to have the chance to be heard and to explain his side.
WillowFox's interpretation hit a nerve and validated something that had been in the back of my mind, something that I didn't want to really consider but was beginning to suspect.
I should not generalize and I apologize for offending anyone.
This is a sensitive issue for me and I am a bit reactionary right now since my emotions are somewhat raw.

As far as my friend goes, I have not confronted or asked him any questions. I am mulling it all over before deciding what steps to take next.

I asked what steps I should take next in this situations and received 54.2.6>21

That supports my plan to step back, look at this situation from a larger perspective (line 2) and rely on my inner abilities to give myself what I need instead of looking for it in places where it doesn't exist (line 6) in order to overcome this "small" hurdle (hex 21).

Thank you, everyone for your input. I really do appreciate it.

Namaste.
