Thought I'd share this with folks to see if there are any other thoughts out there.

Recently I've been going about my life suddenly feeling stressed for no apparent reason. (no I haven't upped my coffee intake nor am I overworked) It's almost a sense of trepidation, as though something is imminent. I have in the past often felt nervous and jittery for no reason just before something crappy happened. It was usually nothing very serious, maybe a minor accident or the lost of something. But this is like a cross between excitment and fear. Slightly different though how...is difficult to explain.

Anyhow, I asked Madame Yi: What is the source of this stress I'm feeling? and she pitched me:

19 unchanging.

19 has always made me groan in the past because I found it quite difficult to get a handle on. But I'm starting to see that it's actually one of the most interesting symbols of change in the ole BoC.

What immediately came to mind was wise management of energy. Something growing but is not quite ready yet. Be careful. Stuff going on inside. Being practical, pragmatic even - sowing what you've carefully cultivated but at the right time. Brad Hatcher's interpretation talks about "taking charge" and the importance of actually doing something and not resting on your laurels. I like this part:

Old successes only mean things learned and useful now: one is that you don’t know when the rains will come. Seed must be broadcast by then. The season’s promise taken for granted is empty. The success of the spring will be known in the fall, that of the leap in the landing.

19 does some teaching aspects to it and some of my work does involve teaching so I suppose it could refer to that though I'm not sure in what way. No stress there. I think it more logical that it refers to inner work/inner teaching. The question is about the source after all. Perhaps it can be more abstract in that the high is meeting the low - some alchemical work? It would be nice to think I'm "becoming great" with "the approach of what is strong and highly placed in relation to what is lower." (Wilhelm) Perhaps that's wishful thinking! :D But I do feel I have changed a great deal these past 18 months -I'd like to think for the better, but not without a cost.

There also seems to be a relationship to Spring in this Hex too. I do feel like I'm entering spring of new possibilities as well as the fact that the actual season is almost upon us.

Dunno - maybe that's reading too much into it all.

Thoughts anyone?

Perhaps you are just experiencing a natural growth cycle, it just seems to be speeding everything up for you, spring is a time of growth and chaos where everything is in a hurry to reproduce, to blossom. People experience these periods of growth without realizing what is going on and this causes sleepless nights and stress, the wonder of it all, the restlessness, being unable to put your finger on the problem, but there is no problem, it is a natural part of life and requires that you just let it happen. A word that springs to mind is "quickening".

Thanks for your input WF. Yes, I'd go along with that. We'll see what this "quickening" leads to.

Hi Topal,

Yi is telling you that the stress is because you are about to leave your personal winter behind and grow into the springtime. The trees and plants became dormant for the winter, and the animals slept in their caves. Now the sunlight is returning. Soon the ice will fall off, the snow will melt, and life will stir again.

This springtime is not the work of one leaf or of one fox. All of life is served by the return of the light. There is something about your situation that is bigger than you. If you can grasp it, there is something that will help so many people. Something good you have to offer is like a lake that does not go down when people enjoy the water. Now is the time to figure out what that is - so that when winter returns, you will be able to help people get through it safely. The tension comes because you don't yet see how you can be the sage who is "inexhaustible in teaching all of mankind."

Some follow up questions you might like to ask the Yi:

What is it that I am supposed to teach, which will help so many people?

What is the sunlight that brings springtime into my life?

What is the winter that is starting to thaw in my life?

What is the source of the infinite "water of life" in my life?

How can I prepare so the next winter of life is not as much of a struggle?

Hey Ben,

Thank you for your taking the time to write - I appreciate you sharing your insights and in such a poetic way. Those are some great questions! I shall certainly ponder on those. You've provided a slightly different lens in which to view my situation and really brought this hex to life.

I will do my best to figure out what it is exactly I have to offer! Here's to Spring-time! :pompom: And let's hope this year's Spring yields a fundamental change for all of us on this troubled planet eh?

Thanks again,

Topal

Very late response...

I am very late with this, but after reading, I would be very interested in finding out if you discovered what this was about! I've been having a similar sensation myself and the way you describe it, feels I could have written this post myself only today... Ironically enough, I also drew 19 in response to my questioning Madame Yi about this odd feeling I just can't shake!
Therefore, I'm fascinated with this post and curious if it ever came perfectly clear to you?

~Namaste~ Krista

You've got a good approach

When the IC answers with hex 19 unchanging, it is telling me something along these lines: "Good question! Good approach that you thought to ask a question! Ask more questions along these same lines, and things will become clearer for you."

I think you nailed it there. Like you 19 unchanging makes me groan. I agree its a kind of 'could be everything, could be nothing feel'. I think it has to be to do with the sense of possibilities arising in you that you need to manage, and i do think grounding this sense of possibility in making decisions about where you want to be could lessen the stressy feel. I reckon, at least for me, that stressy feel you describe can be the discomfort of an unspent energy or a new urge not being actualised or realised...perhaps not even yet acknowleged. I think this is about you exploring the sense of burgeoning you may currently feel as stress.

Its a hard kind of answer to pin down because its much possibility nothing actually actual yet...enough to stress any hare, in a good way :D I tend to see this approach of new impulse or energy as something new rather than something you're consolidating already in your life so I'm tending to feel its beyond your teaching concerns..obviously I could be wrong. If some part of you is reaching to something new that you can't quite yet be specific about then I guess there may be a kind of mental chafing at the bit with what already seems established. If you can't find a reason or a name for that feeling then for now it might be felt as stress ?

Hmm be interesting to see what happens in next few months :D

This thread is 8 years old, but I thought I should share that I got the same cast for a similar question. At the moment, I feel like a Chinese juggler with too many spinning plates in the air:) I asked " how to stop hyperventilating" and got 19UC. It is about managing that stressy feeling, that sense of anticipation, anxiety, excitement, too much going on in a period of intense transformation.

So, similar situation to Topal and Kdideaux. Some very good thoughts in this thread, but I can't say that the answer speaks to me about how to manage the feeling. I like the idea of unspent energy in the process of being actualized. Perhaps there is more collective pondering to be done on this?

Well, yasmin, from what I remember the next few months proved to be very quiet and I eventually felt quite calm and nourished. But after that period it included moving house; moving to another country temporarily and also embarking on a rather er...tempestuous relationship. Heck. I certainly needed a lot of energy to get through all that.

So, this was very much about a wise management of energy in preparation for what was to come, which was also part of series of cycles or seasons. Sometimes our bodies do appear to signal what might be coming down the pipeline and how we need quite a bit of extra energy to cope with it all. And if we follow 19's teachings we we'll be in good fettle to come through it, and somewhat wiser. :)

And another 5 years later: Period of intense, deep, internal transformation, feeling stressy, no specific reason, I asked « Now what? ». I just cast the same 19UC. So it seems to crop up in those periods of pre-germination. I usually take it as a narrow window of opportunity to do something. I like the idea of wise managemenr of energy in preparation of what is to come:)

Coming into this thread because I received 19 uc when asking about a particular astrological transit that was supposedly very helpful for leaving behind emotional dead weight, etc.
I asked "what will [transit] allow me to leave behind' and got 19 uc.

It stumped me until this thread...now I find it reassuring. Like the inner work, teaching, preparation portion is almost over, and will soon be left behind.
19 reads very much as pregnancy and so could in a negative (i.e. "getting rid of" this state of being the hex represents) sense indicate a kind of birth is imminent. Or abortion.
A big move could be classified as either.

End of waiting & focus on potential at any rate.
