.... ok, so you looked at the meaning of 36. (not 36.6) .... I would be surprised if anyone here can say 36.6 is an advice.
But your question to me was 'What advice do you see in the reading?' And that's what I responded to.

But to dig a bit deeper, in my original response I said:

(36) seems to be describing a cyclic 'darkening of the light' which has been happen every day for billions of years - and will likely continue for a few billion years more: every evening the sun dips below the horizon and 'goes within the earth' - and at every given moment it is happening, right now, somewhere on this orb we call home. This seems be be quite well described in 36.6:

So, yes, you are correct that my advice didn't just from 36.6. But when I approach a reading, I'm taking all the 'parts' into account, to come up with a suggestion or an overall impression, and in this case, 36.6 was certainly part of that.

But even looking at 36.6 on its own (which I don't usually do), I get the sense that the correct approach is about 'going into the earth' ... maybe to find some safe nurturing place, which might be within oneself.

Best, D.

I am not trying to give you a hard time. David.

36 describes a situation where one must hide their truth for survival purposes,
All in reaction to the evil/mad king.
The lines in 36 are about this subject also.

The tale of Humpty Dumpty is a good analogy for 36.6. I think, were his name
The Dark One, Humpty Dumpty.

Let's wait for the querant to come back and fill us in, before we speculate ourselves to death?

BUT YOU ARE! :duh: :duh: No, really, I've enjoyed the exchange. It feels real and it makes me go back and look at what I said, to see ... is it truthful (at least as I understand it), or just what I think I want the reading to say (a.k.a blowin' smoke up someone's butt)?

My take on 36 overall is quite different, but in this instance, I think the idea of hiding for survival - perhaps from a harmful family or society - is right on. My more broad understanding of 36 is about 'hiding one's light', but I think there can be all sorts of reasons for that, and they are not always about survial or hiding from evil, but that's just my take on it.

Let's wait for the querant to come back and fill us in, before we speculate ourselves to death?
Yes, but could all this really be about hiding from Trump or Pokemon, or the flat-earthers?

Best, D.

ok, so you looked at the meaning of 36.
(not 36.6)

I would be surprised if anyone here can say 36.6 is an advice.
不明晦。初登于天。後入于地。
Not bright but dim. First climb to heaven. Then enter the earth.

晦 is 'dark, dim', but as a reference to the last day of a lunar month, which is just before new moon. It means the moon light is not yet completely gone, but it will be when it is new moon and when a new month begins. At such a time it is good to pay your respect to the heavens, and to sacrifice to the earth (old texts tell us that sacrifices were made to the earth by burying offerings in the earth.)

The advice here could be that in times when the light is dim you should honor and balance the powers that control it. It is good to keep in mind that the diminishing light is merely a phase that is nearing its end. A new phase will soon begin, just like hexagrams have last lines and first lines. Notice that the text does not give any judgment on what happens: it does not end with xiong 凶, 'ominous' or wujiu 無咎, 'no blame'. It sketches a situation - no more, no less. When you understand the situation that is described you also know what to do: realize that the situation is not bad in itself. It is only your attitude that makes it good or bad.

Hao Zhenlong says about this line:

"Ming 明 is what is bright like the sun. Hui 晦 is what is dim like the moon. When the sun is shining its light the moon will keep its light to itself. When the moon is shining its light the sun will hide its own rays. The balance in light and dark is the perpetuating cycle of yin and yang, of heaven and earth. The light is in the heavens. Ah! to reach it one must climb so high, so hard, so difficult. The darkness is in the earth. Oh! to find it one only has to enter it, so low, so easy, so effortless. The dark is close, the light is far - such is the nature of man when all feels lost. By entering the earth one can look up and see the sky. When climbing to heaven you can see the depths of the earth. Bright and dim, heaven and earth, the entwined sources of he 和 (harmony) and ping 平 (balance) - when you realize this, how can you ever be succumbed to darkness again?"

Hao Zhenlong,
"when you realize this, how can you ever be succumbed to darkness again?"
Hao Zhenlong didn't happen to be an advisor to the boxers in the boxer rebellion, did he?

I see 36.6 as depicting a baby about to be born and 22. is what the child dreams the world might be.
Perhaps an image sent to tell you your inner child says it’s time to get out and explore!
Meanwhile I’m trying to think of ways to strengthen your ties with your parents so they won’t feel so cut off when you eventually make your move. Do you have a good family picture you could hang in a place of honor? Or tell them you want to interview them. Get them to tell you their life stories and they’ll want to hear yours too. Get so up close and personal they’ll be glad to get away! Ha. But seriously, I think these hexagrams encourage you to be thinking about the life you would like to live and prepare for it by first strengthening family ties. (I say that because 36.6 leads to 37.Family )

Thank you all for posting and for sharing your thoughts. All these days I have this answer on my mind and I try to find out what I could do.
I agree with Moss Elk. I can't see an advice here too. The only thing I can think is that is time to stop concealing 'my light' (my truth, my desires) inside me, I must speak out. I can't find a way out. I don't know if it is for my best to stay here or to leave and I don't know where I should go, where I would be happy. I have made more specific questions but I feel so pressured to share at the moment.
Thank you so much for all of your answers I will read them more carefully when I feel better.

How could I avoid all this misery how could I change my life? 36.6 - 22
i would read this cast as addressing two different parts of the question.

How could I avoid all this misery - 36.6 - you can't, you need to let the darkness run its course... but also, these times seem to be approaching their end.
How could I change my life - 22 - adornment, beautifying, finding ways for the content of your life to fit its form (however this might apply to your situation).

hope you feel better soon and will find a way to shine again :)

Further thoughts...

Are you familiar with what's known as The Law of Attraction? The idea is that like attracts like, that what ever you focus your attention on you attract more of. Thus to avoid misery one must first of all not focus on what's wrong. Even to say "AVOID misery" is unhelpful because you are asking your mind to make you aware of misery! Instead one is advised to focus on what is good, what they do want more of and this then acts like a magnet to draw things into positive alignment. Anyway, I can see 36.6 - 22 as saying your current circumstances are so cut off from the wider world - 36.6, you are totally "in the dark" - that you can only 22. Imagine what your options are for the future. Without anything real to bounce your ideas off on you can only imagine the worst - and thus attract it, or at least talk yourself out of trying to do anything.
So I'm thinking 36.6 - 22 is pointing out you are worried about what might happen if you try to leave home because you don't have a clear vision of how this can be 22. Gracefully done.

So I think if there is "advice" here from line 36.6 it is to shed more light on the subject - get more substantial facts to firm up the 22. Vague Fantasies until they become a solid, compelling goal.

You don't seem to be urged to do anything drastic immediately, more like this reading is encouragement to persevere.

My take in this is that unless you change your perspective you have hit an impasse you need to fully look at yourself and come to some understanding. 36.6 is not giving you advice one way or the other ....it is saying just look inside. My experience anyway

Can I also say that your thread title is somewhat depressing. It shows a really negative outlook from the start. Not that we don’t all have them just that I find the starting point often stimulates the response. Hope you find an answer

One more day that I feel so desperate and I want to change my life but I don't know what steps should I take.

What should I do? How could I get out of this situation that makes me so sad?

36.2 > 11

One more time hexagram 36. I am not surprised anymore, hexagram 36 could represent my life of the last couple of years.
36.2 ' The second line, magnetic, shows its subject with clouded perception and wounded in the left thigh. She saves herself by the strength of a swift horse, and is fortunate.'
I am wounded but there is a horse that could help me. I am wondering who is the horse now. Or does it mean that there is a 'horse' coming into my life to help me to overcome this bad phase?

Legge and subsequently Dekorne make the fundemental mistake of calling 36
'clouded perception', which implies that the subject (you) have clouded perception.
This is not the case. As a whole 36 is about hiding your light or obscuring the perception of others.

You are in a tough situation,
use whatever resources you can find to get yourself out of it. borrow that old car or bicycle, hitch a ride, take whatever means or opportunity that comes up, remember that horses were primarily used for transportation.

In ancient China horses were primarily used in warfare. See Xiang Wan, The Horse in Pre-Imperial China (diss.)
That's Semantics I say!
The warriors were not swinging the horses around above their heads, using them as flails. They were riding them, being transported from A to Battle, from rear to front.

I don't think the querent is being encouraged to war against her family.

Usilser, setting the Yi aside for a moment, I'm going to suggest that you may want to talk to a counselor or therapist about your situation.

I get the sense that you may be depressed, and certainly that you are in a hard, stuck place right now - and I think that maybe the Yi will not be able to give you a full answer or a way out of your situation.

You've mentioned that you don't want - or feel you can't - make external changes, like finding a new job or a new community to live in. I am not judging that, but that certainly limits your options. Maybe talking with someone versed in these types of things would be way to go - and perhaps they can serve as that 'swift horse', if even just temporarily, maybe they can help you see some possibiliteis or options whch are hidden by the darkness right now.

Best, D.

It's not that I don't want to make external changes (move to another town, looking for a new job), the thing is I want to make a move but I want to be sure that it would be for my best and I would be happy. My situation is very complicated. If I leave from here, for my parents I would be their worst daughter (like my sister did but still their favorite) and they will disinherit me. Actually, I don't have the best relationship with them the last days. I feel I give so much and they don't appreciate me. I can't describe what I feel exactly but I could say that I feel that I don't belong here, but I don't know where to go.
