For me, of all the interpretations that I have read the Richmond I Ching oracle that Rodaki posted just about sums up 55.5 the best.

Boy are we on a high !!!. Nowhere to go and nothing to do except let our inner light shine and bring all the goodies to us.

0 Six in the fifth place means:
Lines are coming,
Blessings and fame draw near.
Good fortune.

-Wilhelm

Yes Rodaki, especially the language of the lines quote touched me.

55.5 the place of the ruler. triple 5. Here we can find the inner child. The number of the magical squire, the Lou Shu. Where all numbers count up to 15. Thats why in Chinese phylosofy 15 is called the Way(Tao)(of the Universe). The yang changes from 7 to 9, while the yin changes from 8 to 6, both of which cases add up to 15, so that the numbers of the unchanging(7+8) and changing(9+6) lines(of their respective hexagrams) are the same.

Upper trigram is becoming lake coming from thunder. Here there is a change from the spring to autumn. Here we get a glimpse what will be the outcome from the things we are doing at this moment.
The inner nucleus is changing from lake to heaven. Both the trigrams of metal. So here are the deeper yin parts of our being. Where are our deepest emotions and pain are situated. Only to acknowledge that everybody has those erea's cann make a beginning of a real change towards understanding each other. This can be the change that we already made in 49. But now becomes real. 55.5 is changing to 49.

A lovely insight again to the numbers behind the line and the link with the Lo Shu.
Finding the inner child can be a difficult search to undertake and like all searches we always find the thing we are looking for in the last place we think to look.

So in 55.5 the change inspired by the inner child now becomes real. We make hay while the sun shines having found the switch and chosen to keep the sun switched on.

"The inner child becomes real"!!!

DEAREST FRIENDS! My son has just called me. He and his wife are at the hospital. She has just started to have contractions! My grandbaby - who is actually not "due" until June 19 - could be born today! Can you believe this? Is this too amazing?
Please say a prayer for him, baby Jaxon, as this is a bit premature.

MUCH LOVE TO YOU ALL,
Rosada

Thank you all so much for being here to share this moment with me. Thanks for asking for photos. I am not computer savy enough to know how to do that, but suddenly I am motivated to learn! Thank you for the song dedication Trojan. I am grinning ear to ear.

Little story...Ya know how we had be discussing whether one could use the I Ching to talk to others and i said i'd been using it to connect with the baby? Well yesterday I was going to be leaving the house and wanted my son to know to he could reach me on his cell. So I called him and my son said, "He's here!" Seems Jaxon had arrived just minutes before i called! I just have to think that all the mind to mind stuff Jaxon and I had been doing had us so tuned in that Jaxon could say, "Hi Grandma!" the moment he got here. (He has Scorpio rising with Pluto exactly on the cusp of the third house - perfect timing, perfect communication!)

Six at the top means:
His house is in a state of abundance.
He screens off his family.
He peers through the gate
And no longer perceives anyone.
For three years he sees nothing.
Misfortune.

This describes a man who because of his arrogance and obstinacy attains the opposite of what he strives for. He seeks abundance and splendor for his dwelling. He wishes at all odds to be master in his house, which so alienates his family that in the end he finds himself completely isolated.

The fate of one who sought the hammer of judgment rather than the cover of mercy.

Thanks Maria!
Thanks Rodaki!
Thanks Meng!

What do you make of 55.6 changing to 30? Is that like someone who WAS the center of attention now having to grow up and realize we're all equal? Like the inner child now has to get in touch with their inner adult?

when I spend too much time in darkness, the first outing in the sun seems cruel, the sun hurts my eyes and I cannot see
like a wake up call, yes, I'm happy in the darkness of my bed and then someone turns on the light . .

for me usually music works best . .

Hex 55 is the manifestation of the Divine in human society in terms the trigrams of thunder and lightning and in terms of the image of the total solar eclipse. Eclipses are monumentally impressive, showing the moon seem to gobble up the sun and eliminate its light and warmth. However, the 6th place is the transition to the next and as we know even the most exact total solar eclipse only lasts a short time---and afterwords what is there left in the sky? Good Ol' Sol continuing its light and warmth as it moves along its normal path from sunrise to sunset--a standard image for hex 30.

Congratulations Rosada,
Enjoy the new grandchild. Grandchildren are the ideal tiny babies since they are close family but come with their own built in care staff--their parents. They also tend to have major planets in signs making softer aspects to your own than their parents--sextiles rather than inconjuncts.

The sixth line is the one that retreats from the character of time, the one that is able to overview and contemplate the situation. In hex 55 that gives a strange situation: let good times roll, the ruler lets things happen. It is the immersion in the situation, daring to surrender to the combined forces of fire and thunder that give this situation the character. But line 6 is retreating and contemplating, not being involved at all, not giving emotion and energy to the situation, so keeps everything for him-herself, as if collecting fuel and abundance for yourself and not sharing anything. That is arrogance, no giving and taking, being greedy for oneself, perhaps munipulating the others that are involved.
Making nets and traps (30) to catch the work/energy/spontanity of others? Is this the parasite that needs the fuel (30) from others?

55.6 When you build up the hexagram then at the 5th line you know that you get 55 or 30. When throwing a yang line it becomes 30 when you get a yin line you get 55. So with the last line you come into the sun(30), or there is a sun darkening as in 55.
Both hexagrams are daytime hexagrams, with 55 you can see the stars during the day(fate) and in 30 there is sun all day.

30 is the hexagram of rationality, things become visible for everybody who has enough yin.(the centre of trigram fire). " Here the central line of Earth is injected in Heaven, making fire. The central yin of fire represents flexiblility in consiousness, since it originates in Earth" (from the book of Balance and Harmony by Thomas Cleary).

Here we can feel the love of the inner child that radiates further to the erea's of our inner(yin) conciousness.(the Fire Earth - the Ji Earth) Now we are less afraid to be funerable because now we know where this area of our Inner Child is situated in our deepest being.

55.6 - The house when seen in dreams is representative of the self, so here we are in a state of inner abundance , but there is a misplaced 'cloak of protection' that gives an air of arrogant isolation that is in danger of alienating us from those all around us - from our outer world. We follow the inner child and are unwilling to share the abundance - sharing is one of the great weapons against fear, and because we are unable to share we allow fear in. It's all too good to be true!! This will not last. What if I allow myself to share, to become vulnerable? The questions form the barrier of sorts.
In fact this is all part of a natural cycle that is just part of the process - give it 3 years ( 3 -new beginnings and maybe not actually years, but a natural cycle longer than the 10 day one) and it'll work itself out. The inner acceptance will be followed by the outer manifestation, we just have a few small hiccupsto sort out. 55.6 will change to 30....that's what it does. No more, no less.

Maybe this is the inner parent taking the inner child by the hand and leading him through the gate - allowing a maturity of inner peace and harmony to grow and permeate from the inside out.

An image that springs to mind - There used to be some adverts in the UK about Ready Brek a kids breakfast mealwhich tasted like like already chewed porridge. The kids loved it, but I wasn't convinced. Anyway in the advert they ate the steaming hot meal and then were surrounded by a glowing aura, which kept them warm and secure.

"His house is in a state of abundance." He flutters
about at the border of heaven.
"He peers through the gate and no longer perceives
anyone." He screens himself off.

The weak line at the high point of the movement goes too far. Thus it seems to rise continually higher, but precisely through this it loses its hold increasingly and moves ever farther from the light - all the more so as it is itself darkening the nine in the third place. Hence the six at the top falls into a hopelessly isolated state, for which it has only itself to blame.

It's all power, and the various reasons for wanting it and fearing being lorded over by it. Or, of being excluded from it, which just might be the most deeply rooted insecurity; that is until you are the king or queen. Then you have real reasons to fear for your life. Isolation, then, offers safety, if not company.

Hi Meng

55.6 has been a bit of a puzzle to unravel. Reading my previous post, it strikes me as a rambling, so trying to be a bit more concise. Are you indicating here that there is a sense in 55.6 of having obtained something (a power; an energetic place of 'wealth') at 55.5 we become scared by our own success. This success, however it manifests, presses our innermost buttons (a real sense of vulnerability, being exposed) because of the perceived imbalance between our new inner and outer being, our feelings and our actions, our needs and our wants. We just need to come to terms with the new and allow a spreading of the wealth to realign our needs with our wants. We can best do this from the safety of the womb, into which we retreat and avoid the buffeting that will come from mixing with others. To them this action may be seen as arrogant and vexatious, our flow to them is interrupted but to us it is a neccessary element to allow the new energy to equalise and flow - to belay our fears.

hey Mike,

I think it's easy to be vague with 55's meaning(s). At first it seems like a very good omen (abundance means full, right?), but then what of all those darkly ominous symbols in the lines, such as a solar eclipse, breaking a right arm, and screening off their families?

LiSe's relevant historic account of the events: http://www.yijing.nl/i_ching/hex_49-64/55-56.htm

To be less esoteric about 55, it's something we can see just by flicking our TV to one of the entertainment magazine shows. Here are people living in abundance with far more than they need. Chances are most have screened off their families and old friends, and have had or will have their share of broken arms and eclipses. It's a fast, full and furious way of living. And, as an ex heroin addict told me, if you want to play you're going to have to pay. There's a price to pay for abundance.

But does this mean we are advised to avoid abundance? Course not, or at least not always. Abundance is for those who can handle it, and sometimes it comes, ready or not.

hi all,

just dropped by to post (what else?) Richmond
from 'I Ching Oracle'

Abundance within his house
and within the wall
peering thru the gate
he sees no one
for three years he sees noone

The abundance stays inside so he cannot share it outside his person. Until we change (3 years is a cycle of change) we can find no one to share with. We need to learn to allow the abundance within to flow outwards; this follows its inner acceptance

I like Richmond because his approach is not condemning but explaining or just stating . . I sometimes think that in the 6th line something big has to be given up (a sacrifice, a ritual, since this is the sage line). Maybe this is about someone not ready for this . . the blame is not in that per se as much as in not dealing with it . . perhaps connected to 30.6 where there are measures taken . .

The inward to outward view of it. Excellent.
