A ball of confusion

Hello,

I had started a thread a couple weeks ago about a career direction (this is the link here: http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/friends/showthread.php?t=13273). In this thread, I had asked "what kind of job is best for me to pursue?" 49.6 to 13
Then I asked "what kind of job does this describe?' 11.5 to 5
I received some really wonderful comments and, from them, I think that the first answer refers to the type of work, while the second refers to a state of mind or perspective I need in order to understand the job described in the first reading.

Hoping for clarity I asked today "what kind of schooling should I take?"11.5 to 5
Same answer as the second reading in the other thread. And in the last post, they said this means I should use what resources are at hand, so no schooling? Whatever is closest/easiest?

So I started asking about different fields of study. I mentioned psychology as an area of interest in the other post and when I asked "Please show me in the field of psychology" I got 47.3 to 28.
I guess it would be too much for me to deal with and would affect my home life too much.

I asked about some others I've been thinking about, all with lukewarm responses, then I asked about working in international welfare and development and received 49.5.6 to 30.
Sounds promising and very similar to the first question I asked about the best job for me to pursue, BUT when I asked "please show me the best path towards this" I got 24.2.6 to 41.
I missed my chance with no way of repairing the damage for 10 years?! How is it best for me to pursue this job if I missed the opportunity?

So I asked "what is the opportunity that I missed?" 22.4 to 30
And I asked "why is it too late?" 53.5 to 52.
Both of these involve relationships. How is this related?

I asked "how can I remedy this?' 32 unchanging
Also "what is the next best path towards this?" 52.1.6 to 36
Neither of these seem very proactive.

Finally I asked "what can I do now to return to the proper way?" and "how long until I can return?" and got 26.1.5 to 57 for both.
More waiting and holding back. Is there nothing I can do?

This is all so confusing to me. I think I get the basic meanings but I'm afraid there's more to it. I'm finding it hard to see the connections between readings and, worst of all, I am finding it hard to see what I can do to improve things. I'm feeling pretty hopeless and stuck. There are a lot of questions here but I wanted to understand why something I am suited for is no longer available to me. If anyone could help me with any or all of these I would be very grateful.

Tess, Let's back up a minute, and just look at "please show me the best path towards this" I got 24.2.6 to 41.

Couldn't this be as simple as more schooling or something is required in order to pursue this in which you may have missed a deadline and, therefore, would have to wait? I admit to not having read the full threads. It is just when I first read your post, I immediately had the thought that this reply from Yi may be as simple as you may have missed a deadline, such as an admissions or entry deadline of some kind...

Hi tess,

I think your initial answer, 49.6 to 13, speaks of a true calling, and the lack of it.
You said that you'd like a fulfilling job, but you're unsure of what would fulfil you.
So in effect you do not feel a true calling to any particular profession, and since
you don't, no matter what anyone or the I Ching suggests, it would only be a
superficial change.

"what kind of schooling should I take?"11.5 to 5, i agree with your interpretation
here, sounds like use whatever skills you already have. Or, get married!

Psychology does not sound promising, as you said.

working in international welfare and development and received 49.5.6 to 30,
again here the difference between a true calling and the lack of it, and 30 is
very much about taking care of oneself and one's possessions. So not sure this
would be fulfilling the way you want it. "please show me the best path towards
this" I got 24.2.6 to 41
, it sounds to me that if you pursue this path there will
be loss, you'd have to lower your expectations, and again, 41 is the opposite of
fulfilled. So far the whole thing sounds to me like a dichotomy between a true
calling and the lack of it, which also means - would you be able to live in poverty
in order to pursue an ideal? would you sacrifice "your cow" and be prepared to
live on "two small bowls of rice" in order to feel fulfilled? And would you feel
fulfilled with this path, that's another question. 24:2, easy-going and comfortable
return, if you deviate from that, 24:6 misfortune, and 41 loss.

So I asked "what is the opportunity that I missed?" 22.4 to 30, burned and thrown
away, perhaps a flash-idea that you don't stick with, or, discard this thought, and
again 30, looking after one's cow.

"why is it too late?" 53.5 to 52 > i don't think it's too late for anything, perhaps
you'll have to wait a while till you feel truly happy, and yet again, perhaps what
would fulfil you could possibly be starting a family?

"how can I remedy this?' 32 unchanging, just keep going, you're on the right path.
"what is the next best path towards this?" 52.1.6 to 36, it will be easy for you to
keep calm but you'll also need to protect your heart.

"what can I do now to return to the proper way?" and "how long until I can return?"
and got 26.1.5 to 57 for both
, the 32 to me makes these two questions invalid,
because it seems you somehow are on the right path as it is. 26:1, danger, desist,
so don't force yourself to "return" anywhere, and try to subdue impulses (26:5).
57 gently keep blowing in the same direction.

Not sure if any of this helps, but anyway that's how your answers sound to me.

So it seems I was overreacting. At least everything isn't as bad as it seemed at first.

Modestlearner, what you say is very true. I would need more schooling to pursue this area, most likely, and it's too late to apply for this fall. I'll have to wait until next year to start anything. If it's as simple as that then I'm ok with it. The "for 10 years it will not be possible to attack again" detail kind of freaked me out I guess. Thank you for your reply. :)

Diamanda, I think the problem lies in the fact that there are a lot of things I want to do but none of it equates into one particular career. I think it's sad how people are sorted into very specific slots that are so hard to branch out from. It's a very rigid system we have created for ourselves and I have resisted fitting into it but I feel now I have no choice. After reading your comments and some reflection, I think that that is what the first 2 readings mean (49 to 13 and 11 to 5). I need to be myself in the significant ways but change myself in the insignificant ways to fit in with the people. I have to deal with the way the world is now because that's all there is and the only way to get what I want out of it is to work with it while waiting for it to gradually change and helping it do so.

Considering this, I'm going to leave off thinking about the specific job readings and focus on the general ones I asked about because I need to get a solid foundation first. You said that it isn't too late for me and that I should keep going because I'm on the right path but that I may need to wait. This makes sense to me and I can wait even thought I am kind of sick of waiting, but I'd rather do things the right way than force things. I think I got most of my anxiety out when I overreacted back there.

By the way, I really would like to start a family in the near future but that's not really an option for me at the moment, so I need to make other plans in case my life never heads that way. Thanks for all of your input, Diamanda. It was really helpful.
