To answer your discretely deleted question discreetly, I've dreamed of her. Once I held her, until she returned to the waves; a child of the sea.

She was like the Marlin I fought in my dream as a child. I fought it hard, and the closer I reeled it to the boat, the lighter it was. Until when I lifted the line out of the water, there was nothing there but fishing line. It hadn't broken off, it just became less real the closer it got, it could only make its presence known and felt from deep and far.

I see the romantic kind of love much the same. I see the choices you were given in the lines of 30 much the same. Cast your net(s) or cast your line(s); never know what's gonna come up. Then you be the one to decide if he's a keeper, if there's anything left by the time you've reeled him in.

I had an encouraging reading today. I tend to get invited to interviews for very big companies for very lucrative jobs, but nerves and fear of failure have really scuppered my chances. It's frustrating because I feel so capable of doing the job, it's just so difficult to shine when you're a slave to your nerves.

I have another big chance coming up in August. I asked the Yi what I can do to secure a job.

I got 29.1.3.6 - 9.

This hexagram seems to be speaking about the dangers of not overcoming my fears. The idea of water clearly indicates that I need to let my emotions flow and just accept my own nerves about the situation, rather than trying to 'overcome' nerves like I usually do. There is a sense that flexibility will be essential in avoiding pitfalls and that dwelling on past failings is one of the worst things I can do. If I can avoid all this, small progresses are possible. I just thought it was really encouraging. Spoke more to my own emotions on the issue than on what I can DIRECTLY do, but that was relevant since my emotions are my biggest barrier to success.

Isn't it wonderful to see how I Ching can give you a whole new viewpoint?
Wishing you success at the interview in August, would like to know how you did!

I'm a newbie myself, so wouldn't dream of offering any insights, even if I had any :)
Enjoy your day,

My introduction to I Ching: hexagram 23!!

This is the perfect place, I think, to share my first experience with I Ching.... and how it eventually helped me to change my viewpoint.
In spite of my fascination with the wisdom in ancient texts and spirituality, I hadn't come across the I Ching oracle. One of my friends owns a pack of Holizka I Ching cards, and suggested we do a reading, to see what the I Ching would say. The difficult situation of our business was uppermost on my mind, but I was told no specific question was needed, and I chose the two cards: 23 BO, and 35 Jing.
You can imagine, reading about hexagram 23, Splitting Apart; Fragmentation....
 nearly fell of my chair..... this was exactly the situation I felt we were in. Changing line 4: "you are paying the price for your mistakes. There is nothing more you can do to avert danger. Just wait for better times".... The relating hexagram 35 Jing 'Progress" is one of great promise and comfort, however, but the shock of 23 overshadowed that 'detail' :duh: for many weeks....It scared me so much, that it took me a long time before I dared to explore it further. But now, I realise how I can look at it differently, as being part of a cycle, and with the promise of good and easy progress, we're on the way up. The I Ching has brought me inner peace and trust....and I'm immensely grateful, :bows:It's become a trusted friend....

I've been lookin at these cards (http://www.illuminationtarot.com/iching_hol.php) called I Ching Holitzka Deck and just want to ask: Where are the unchanging hexagrams to be found ? It seemed that whatever You do You'll get hexagrams with changing lines.... In the ancient yarrow-method You'll get both unchanging- as well as changing hexagrams when consulting. Have I misunderstood ?

Sorry, Svenrus, I cannot be of much help. I am quite new to I Ching, and the Holitzka Deck belongs to a friend. I started using coins myself, with translations of I Ching I found online, but am now using beads. As far as I remember, with the H Deck, you start out picking two cards, so there will always be changing lines, and a relating hexagram.
The cards are beautiful, though, aren't they...!

No need for sorrying; I'm new to I Ching too. And all in all: who should decide which method to be used ? The yarrow, or divining with the stalks of plants-method is mentioned in the Shu Ching, book of history, far back in time and as I see it we need to know which method those used who created it... and this was not the yarrow-method but seemed to be readings out of cracks in bones and tortoiseshells. Later on came the coinmethod I guess out of what I remember up in our time - taking our time to be from around the time of Christ or even earlier [Richard Rutt, Zhouyi - The book of changes, the Divination/Coin-tossingchapter]; never mind if that is correct remembered as the methods with seeds, coins, dies and deck of cards could be just so legal and correct as other methods. Again: who to decide which ?

33. 4.5.6 - 15 Sister's passing.

I asked the I Ching for a reading for the day. Just as I did the toss but before I read the interpretation I got a phone call from my niece telling me my sister Polly had died.

I have posted about Polly before here at online clarity. She had Lyme's disease and the readings I had gotten for her were not good, but still, you know, you just sort ignore the bad one's and tell yourself the I Ching doesn't really mean it, but obviously it did. Anyway, because of the I Ching I was not as totally shocked as I might have been and then to have this reading come just as I got the news was very very comforting. I mean, it's such a positive reading if you look at it as describing a soul moving on and of course to receive it just as I got the news - indeed, to receive it BEFORE I got the news - was a great blessing as it made me realize that somehow all was in divine order.

Hexagram 33 Retreat.
33.4 It's time for the man to leave. No good could come of his influence if he stayed longer.

My sister had been working very hard to get my mother's estate in order after her death last year. She had just completed the bulk of this monumental task days before she died. Not everyone in the family was happy with the way she handled things but that's their problem, she did her job.

33.5 When it's time to leave, it's time to leave.

My sister was only 67 so one might think she died way before she was meant to. This line gave me great comfort as it specifically states it was indeed her time.

33.6 You are aware that you are free to leave. You say your goodbyes in an excellent spirit.

This line really saved my sanity. My sister was a fighter who did everything she could to stay healthy. She wanted to live. This line encourages me to believe at the end she easily moved on to a better reality.

The hexagram changes to 15. Modesty. Receiving Modesty in this context gave me a whole new insight into this hexagram. My sister had left her affairs in about 90% good order, her Bucket List almost complete. Still loose ends to tie up, not everything she wanted to accomplish finished, but like Modesty, a sort of sense that things were in reasonably good order, that her life and the lives of those she left behind could go on without heart wrenching grief.

Having said that, of course I miss her every day.
God speed to you, Polly.
I love you.

sorry to hear this Rosada  a lovely reading yes. As if this is all very simple and as it was meant to be. For her it's a lovely reading too.

Also yes I notice we do often try to skip the blunt answers Yi gives....and it is very blunt sometimes. But as you say it can help lessen the shock later on.

I'm sorry for your loss, Rosada. And yes... thank you for sharing the reading, it's a beautiful one. Oh, and change patterns 12 and 11: something stops, something flows on. Yi does a lot of sanity-saving at times like this - and just the fact of connection becomes extra-luminous, too.

Update:
The fellow I wrote about a few emails back (post #177 on page 18 of this thread) reached out to me finally - after keeping me lost in space for nearly a week - a period I was only able to cope with because of you all here who encouraged me to just chill despite what the I Ching seemed to say. He finally emailed me saying he hadn't been able to reach me by phone! So contrary to what I thought the I Ching was telling me, we connected and have been together ever since. :)

Hello, i've been reading this forum trying to find the meaning for some hexagrams that puzzle me (and there is a lot of good info here). I've been using IC for almost a year now, and still feel like a "Youthful Folly".
Anyways I'm so glad to find this wonderful community, full of kindred spirits, not like the skeptics around me.

Without further ado, i give you my a-ha moment:

One morning i was not feeling very good, my tummy was bothering me. There was a feeling of discomfort, like an internal pressure - full of gas ?
So i went to the bathroom, but that did not help. The feeling was still there.

I consulted the oracle and got 48.5 (Well) -> 46 (Ascending).
5th line:
The well is clear as a cool spring.
Drink!

Yes Sir! Said I while pouring myself a glass of cool water))

7 minutes later i was as good as new.

Hex 46: Success may come in many forms, but in this hexagram, success comes through a conscious and persistent effort of the will. (Huang)

Nice!

(And I do like 48.5 - it has that, 'OK, let me explain this one to you very slowly' feel to it ;) )

Today i noticed that the fingernails on my left hand had a little bulge in the middle, parallel to the tip of the nail. To clarify: each nail has one transverse/horizontal bump in the middle.

Like a smooth, frozen in time, wave ----^---- (side-view, profile of the nail)

I asked the oracle about it:
Why there are strange bulges/ripples on my fingernails?

Answer: 59.2.6 -> 8
Line 2:
At the dissolution
He hurries to that which supports him.
Remorse disappears.

Line 6:
Shows its subject disposing of its bloody wounds, and going and separating himself from its anxious fears. There will be no error.

Another translation for line 6:
In the aftermath of the flood, there are injuries and destruction everywhere.

A-ha! Right, a month ago i fell on my butt while roller skating! It was hard for me to sit and walk for one day, and getting up from bed was causing a little pain for 2 weeks.

And then i remembered that fingernail's defects are caused by stress/diet change/nutrition problems and illness. And of course the small bulge was in the middle of the nail because it grows slowly(3-5 months), and the accident happened a month ago.

I think 59 Dispersing fits perfectly here, line 2 said there was an injury, and line 6 said the body had disposed of it. And now all the tissues in my butt are 8 Holding Together pretty well )

After closer examination, I've found that the fingernails on my right hand have smaller ripples, and are closer to the tip of the nail. That's because I'm right-handed and fingernails of the working hand grow faster.

I asked the oracle about it:

you are having a laugh right ? I mean everyone has ridges in their nails all the time. Or do you mean all the nails had the wave in the same place ?

All the nails had the wave (1 - 1.5 mm thick, 0.2-0.4 mm high) Parallel to the fingernail's tip, on the left hand.
And smaller wave on the right hand, and closer to the tip.

Sorry if i'm not clear enough, i'm trying my best, English is my second language.

If the fingernail was a street - the ridge/wave would be a speed-bump on it, across the road, and not the center-line/lanes markup.

Yes - people tend to get ridges parallel with the growth of the nail (centre line of the road) as they age (I've just got my first few... grmph...), but transverse (speed bump) ridges are unusual and probably do indicate some trauma. I like the way you describe it as a 'frozen wave' and then get hexagram 59.

As long as I can remember i had only vertical ones and they are very small.

After some internet searching:

White lines and horizontal ridges, however, although in exceedingly rare cases can be due to arsenic poisoning, are almost certainly normal.
The nails grow from the nail bed and in most people the growth across the nail bed is a little up and down, which results in a corrugated appearance.
It's quite normal and not a sign of any disease process.

I guess the small ridges are ok, but bumps may be not.

p.s.
I don't see a "thank you" button anywhere, where is it?

Thanks button will appear just under the post after you've made a few more posts. And a bit of Googling from here suggests that 'centre line', longitudinal ridges are normal with ageing and/or arthritis, but 'speed bump' ones are more unusual. But I would take all this stuff about nails and underlying health conditions with a pinch of salt unless they're concave (iron deficiency), or turning green (infection with zombie virus), or something.

I was going out to get some groceries when i realized that i've lost my keys.
I searched the stand at the door, my desk, grandma's desk - no luck.

Grandma went out to her friend, and maybe she accidentally took my keys? And i didn't want to leave the door unlocked, there was nobody at home except me.

I asked IC: Where are my keys? 63.1.3.5 -> 2 After completion to The Receptive

Hmm i don't understand, let's read the lines (Legge)

1. (Shows its subject as a driver) who drags back his wheel, (or as a fox) which has wet his tail. There will be no error.
Driver? Oh, maybe they are in the car?

3. (Suggests the case of) Kao Zung, who attacked the Demon region, but was three years in subduing it. Small men should not be employed (in such enterprises).
Three years! Right, i've driven my car 3 days ago.

5. Shows its subject (as) the neighbour in the east who slaughters an ox (for his sacrifice); but this is not equal to the (small) spring sacrifice of the neighbour in the west, whose sincerity receives the blessing.

My car is parked on the street, directly to the West of my house. The street and the house are both going from South to the North.

So i went out, checked in the small box between the front seats - nothing. Opened the trunk - here they are! (Line 1 says about back wheel)

Wow i'm so pumped right now) The answer was so precise!

Since I've rented a place owned by a couple of female friends, sharing their place, their ever barking Corgi (spoiled) drives my blood pressure up, and though this has been a somewhat safe place to recover, we all knew I was looking for something more fitting. I've been out looking at houses and apartments, nothing seemed a right fit. My readings were generally discouraging and for awhile I thought it was my destiny to remain on here awhile longer. With the housing market returning, rentals have also gone up, making a good share rental a good option, if you can find the right person or people to co-inhabit with in a decent dwelling. The owners of this house aren't happy about my leaving, but really, it's time for a new an more fitting paradigm.

This morning I'm going to meet a middle aged guy, ex-Marine dog trainer, a canine cop, private investigator, who has ambitiously changed careers and selling high-grade, purebred German Shepherds, the kind that sell upward of $600-$1000. Newish and large luxury home and two of his own German Shepherds, one 13 years old, mellow and both well trained, non-barkers, unless there's a good reason.

After such a convolution of tangled readings over several prospective houses, my readings about this situation have been encouraging, for a change.

When I woke early (up late dog sitting the little spoiled yapper), little sleep, I ask Yi:

Is this (new) house and people a good decision now? 61uc

then,

How do I break the news to my friends I rent with now? 23.3 (he splits with them, no blame) and line 6, still a large uneaten fruit, changing to 15.

How clear is that?

So, I'm very confident that this place is where I'll be moving to very soon. After so many muddled readings over various houses, the Yi had it's eye on frugality, and remaining with other people, rather than living alone, as I've done the last 13 years. A dog trainer, after seeing every mistake in the book being made with this little Corgi, will be refreshing. The owner and other young renter are gone most of the time time working, leaving the big, new house and two well trained German Shepherds, that I can get busy with and go for walks to get my bp down and tone up after losing 15 pounds. I'll have freedom in the kitchen again to make salt free and healthy meals, rather than what I've been living on, which is anything but a heart healthy diet.

I'll report back here if anything major and unexpected happens, Otherwise, I won't be around for a few days next week.

Very clear indeed. Hope the move materialises and goes well. (Life with a couple of German Shepherds around the place is my idea of bliss.)

This week I asked Yi "So what's up. What m I dealing with here , in general." Answer, 28 lines 3 and 6. uh oh, financial ruin? could be. Many kinds of ruin possible around here. Ruin is my middle name. Laa dee dah.

Today the heating pipe burst, (28.3) and water poured all over everhwere (28.6). ; )

Hmmm. May not be the end of it, and then it just may be. There still is time for all out financial tsunami, but this sure did make me smile. "Is that all there is"? smile. "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar". Thanks heavens.

Aloha everyone!

Just wanted to share an experience, its related readings and, thanks.

Twenty years ago I made music with a friend for about a year. We wrote several songs. One day he surprisingly broke the news that he did not want to continue our endeavor.
Twenty years pass...

I ran into him about six months ago at a wedding party where he told me that not going further with our music was "one of his lifes biggest regrets" Hearing this, I suggested that we could start over where we left off. He was very enthusiastic! We had a few conversations over the next two weeks and he stated that this was something he really wanted to do. I told him to phone when he was ready to recommence.

While waiting I asked, "Will he follow through on this?"
Answer: 50.4
Whilhelm: The legs of the cauldron are broken. The princes meal is spilled and his person spoiled. Misfortune.
Confucius: How can he be trusted?

Excessively optomistic I thought, "Yeah, he is a great guy. I can trust him on this"

I asked another question: "Will this project be fruitful?"
Answer: 64 unchanging
Legge: The superior man carefully discriminates among the qualities of things, and the different positions they naturally occupy.
Legge: Unfinished business suggests successful progress, but if the young fox that has nearly crossed the stream gets his tail wet, there will be no advantage.

Six months have passed and I have not heard from him. What position does he naturally occupy? He works in advertising / Public Relations. By his own admission in conversation, he is a professional liar, a bender of truth.

On to 64...
I want to thank user anemos for mentioning having "mental post-it notes" about hexagrams. I am now doing this myself and have come to think of 64 as "Jumping to Conclusions".
The young fox thinks he is across the river, so let's his guard/discrimination down, and acts as if he were. Then, *PLOINK*, he falls in the river.

I am tickled by this. :]

Crazy Yellow Dog

Ok, one more story: with happy ending

I was working as a delivery boy last week and arrived at a particular home. A sweet Japanese grandmother (I assume because of the family name) opened the door and then the adventure began.

She spoke very little english and I had a hard time communicating that she should accept the package I held out to her. She understood after a brief moment. As soon as her hand touched the package the family's crazy yellow dog, wearing a large shiny pinch collar, bolted out the door!

It was near a busy intersection with many cars whizzing by. I was breathless for a moment, trying to decide what to do. I am not at all what one would consider a 'dog person', but I considered the possibility of the dog being permanently lost from running away or being ran over. So I ran after her! I chased her into gangways, alleys, sidewalks, and yards. She would sometimes let me get close to her but, would run again when I was within five feet. We traveled at least a mile criss-crossing and backtracking our route. I tried to be forceful with her: "Sit! Stay! No!", but I think she only spoke Japanese. Several times I got close, knelt down and tried to be friendly with her, "it's ok, come here girl" She looked at me like I was the biggest fool she had ever seen, and continued eating poop. At one point I lost track of her. I encountered an old man with a small dog and asked if he had seen her. He said no. I explained what was going on and asked him to keep his eyes open. I ran back into the alley and saw her tail turn a corner. I followed, sweating and nearly out of breath. I realized that NOTHING I was doing directly was working, but found that I was able to herd her in the direction I wished. I did so, towards the old man with his dog. She ran right up to them and sniffed and wagged her tail. I yelled, "Grab her!" He did. I walked over and took hold of her collar then duck-walked her about three city blocks back to her home. Grandmother was standing on the sidewalk looking worried. I took the dog to her and was rewarded with a big "Thank you!" And a hug.

The reading I got that morning was:
2.2>7

... Supports men and things with his large virtue... Furthering with the perseverence of a Mare...if he tries to lead he goes astray, but if he follows he finds guidance... The Army needs a man of Age and Experience...
