OK, this looks like a big fat NO to me, but I feel so muddled on everything on this front that I need another opinion.

My job is no longer really workable now that I'm a mother, for a multitude of reasons, the most insurmountable being that they are unwilling to honor a prior work from home commitment they made, and they have have added more projects onto my job while I was on leave, to the point that it simply doesn't compute—there is no human way to get the work finished in a standard 40 hour week. Perhaps all this is a deliberate ploy to get rid of me (I'm the only mother on staff, and one of the few women), but whatever the case, it's time to go.

Others who have left FT work with them have continued on as project-based freelancers, and my boss has previously said this would likely be an option for me. (Though he's previously said a lot of things and not honored his word, so who knows.) That said, I've watched it work out to be a bad deal most of the time—the freelancers are pushed to work more than they're paid for, and so on.

I asked if Yi had any commentary about me continuing on as a freelancer and, good grief, I drew 27.1.6->2.

I can only remember one previous 27.1 in my 15 years of divining, and it was an odd one: I was about 19, and had ended up at a party where a married man several decades older was making passes at me. Someone mentioned that I used the I Ching, and he asked me to do a reading for him. Awkwardly, feeling like I had no way out of the situation, I did, and he drew this line; he then revealed had made the question about his chances with me :brickwall:. I guess it was a nice comeuppance towards him from Yi. I told him it was a very inauspicious line and he should focus elsewhere.

Anyway, that's all a very tangential way of mentioning the the only time 27.1 has ever appeared for me, that I recall, out of many thousands of castings since. And it was not for me, per se.

And now here it is. I think I understand the line to be about envy, letting your gaze be pulled away by distracting and alluring things for hollow reasons that lead to pitfall, and loss of your core self (magic tortoise/spirit tortoise).

BUT wikiwing on this is a bit different, and seems to show when people pursue things that they don't actually need, out of the sense they do or that something has been lost. So, not the envy angle so much. This thread is linked to as an example: https://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/friends/showthread.php?19014-Another-quot-lost-quot-object-27-1

Is Yi telling me I don't need this freelance work from them?

27.6 is about setting out to do the work while under a cloud of danger of some kind; nevertheless it's worth trying, there's something worth doing in this and the work as a whole is worth it. Yes? No?

I previously received 27.6 on Monday to the question, "Advice on dealing with my duplicitous boss this week?" I interpreted it to mean I should keep going and not let his flaws impact my work for the week.

Unclear about 2 in this context.

Thoughts anyone? Should I just cut my losses and get out of there?

Very grateful to anyone who has time to help!

Also, Trojina, I don't know if you're around (I would love to hear your thoughts if you are!), but I am thinking a lot about how you've mentioned when both 1 and 6 are changing (and the only changing lines) it means the situation will be rapidly dealt with. So maybe freelance will be off the table from the start? I'm nervous about getting myself into a lousy situation with them, as I need them longterm as references.

The "nourishment" in the Judgement of 27 is your freelance job, which you are seeking more of. The "receptivity" of 2s' Judgement is the ability of the nourishment to provide you the energy to act, it is being at your service. Overall then it is telling you to ignore all of what is non-essential, the business side, the external factors of freelancing and concentrate on the job itself.

Hi mulberry,

27.1.6 > 2 sounds negative to me too. From a hungry mouth to emptiness.
27.1 shows someone who lets go of the nourishment they already had and looks elsewhere greedily.
27.6 shows the one who is (or provides) the food (your bosses in this case).

27.6 > 24 shows that whoever is the source of nourishment can come and go as they please.

All in all I agree with you, with 27.1.6. > 2 you'll put yourself in a bad position.

In most cases I've seen, when lines 1 and 6 only change it very often refers to polarity between two people or two different parties in a situation, one of the lines representing one party and the other the other party. But Trojina's view that you mentioned, that the situation changes from A to Z quickly, is also true a lot of the time in my experience.

Thanks, ernobe and diamanda.

I had a meeting with my boss that went well in some ways; he talked a lot about "opportunities for growth" in my role which is code for a title change and raise. He was much nicer than usual. However, he reiterated that their vision for my role had changed since last summer and they need me to work many evening and weekend events (in addition to the normal 40 hour week). Which just isn't going to work; I don't have it in me nor am I paid enough (even with the normal raises here, if I were to get one) to hire help for those times and general help.

I asked Yi afterwards:
What do I need to know about quitting?
37.5->22
People in the home. Entering your own home, no need to worry. This seems crystal clear. Very reassuring.

And:
Now that I know where things stand, what if I stuck it out full time and stayed?
62.1.3->51
Also crystal clear. I'm just not capable of it, in terms of time, energy, or the financial costs of the extra childcare for the hours beyond my salary which are unpaid. Line 1 feels like indication of trying to do too much and burning out, line 3 of being vulnerable and ending up in trouble (?). 51, shock or illness of some kind maybe.

I know this 'sounds' good, but every time I ever got this combination it was bad, and I just had to put a nice smile on so as not to show how bad it was. It has not played out nice for me not even once. Remarkably I once got it after some shocking news at a previous job that my contract would be abruptly stopped. The line actually says that the king deceives/approaches family (not "his own", just a family). All in all this doesn't sound that great to me, really sorry to say :-/

Now that I know where things stand, what if I stuck it out full time and stayed? 62.1.3 > 51
61.1 says there will be misfortune if you try to fly too high (or away).
62.3 says that they'll anyway stab you in the back, and shock you (51).
Hidden line 55.3 speaks of a separation.

I'm afraid they're trying to find excuses to make you quit, because they want to get rid of you... Would they have to pay you out if you don't quit and they decide to make you redundant? I'm really sorry to say I believe what they're trying to do is make you quit so that they don't have to pay you out.

The line actually says that the king deceives/approaches family (not "his own", just a family).

Hilary's translation of this line is:

'The king enters his own home.
Do not worry. Good fortune.'

I don't doubt your personal negative experience of the line, but it's somewhat puzzling, especially considerimg Yi is quite straightforward: "Do not worry. Good fortune." It does perhaps make some sense, in a literal way, in context of your experience: your contract was stopped and you returned to your own home, unfortunate lack of auspiciousness aside.

I've had a fair amount of 37 and 37.5 over the years and it's always played out for me as a return to order, a shift to organization and general harmony.

I agree with your assessment of 62; they're trying to push me out, whether they have discussed it that way or not. I'm the first woman at the org who has ever given birth and it doesn't sit with them well. But they have me cornered and I'd rather leave with my reputation and references intact. I don't think they would ever lay me off/pay me, it's just not how my relationship is with them. They constantly state how essential I am, though they also go on and on about budget issues that keep my salary low...it's a game.)

Yes it's definitely a game, I'm wishing you good luck with it :)

Hilary's translation of this line is:
'The king enters his own home.
Do not worry. Good fortune.'

I respect Hilary and her work immensely, however I can see no character in this line which says "his" or "his own". If you check out different translations, many of them do not contain "his".
