I’m 25 years old and recently started experiencing some symtoms. A CT scan (done for other reasons) saw what may be demyelinating lesions. A few days ago I heard about a colleague that found out has it. Since the day before yesterday I’m experiencing tingling numbing and burning sensations all over my body, especially limbs (characteristic for this disease). I realise I have so much anxiety. Tomorrow I’ll call to make an appointment for a MRI.

I just want a honest interpretation. Thank you! 34 great vigour I like to think that I’m in a good shape. I would still appreciate honest interpretations.

I don't know how to use the Yijing for diagnosis of diseases - though some people do.

But given that ... looking at the two trigrams, in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) I understand that trigram Thunder (above) is associated with the feet, and trigram Heaven (below) with the head. There are no moving lines, so some people would say there is no imbalance (or disease or illness) here. Also, MS is an immune system disease, and I don't believe it's specifically associated with either the head or the feet.

The hexagram statement reads: 'Favorable Augury (omen)" so I don't see anything point to disease or MS here either.

Stepping outside the Yi-world for a moment, I am pretty sure MS is not contagious, so your friend having it doesn't mean that you do. Also, I'm curious when you say "(they) saw what may be demyelinating lesions"; what did the doctors say about this? If my doctor found something that might indicate something was wrong, he'd call for more tests, or at least have me be on the lookout for further complications or symptoms. Is that what your doctors are doing?

Reading a bit about MS, it is not easy to diagnose, in part because it shares symptoms with a number of other diseases and conditions (some severe, some not). And it takes a series of tests and exams to figure out what's going on: a neurological exam, blood tests, eye and ear exams, etc. So, is this what's going on with you and your medical practitioners?

Circling back to Hex. 34 - you have Heaven below, which is the realm of ideas, concepts, etc. So, here you may 'think' you have MS, which can (or should) cause you to take further action to have it checked out - which seems to be what you're doing.

But Thunder (upper trigram) - thought it may be sudden - also represents short-term, short-lived actions; so it is likely you'll need to go back more than once (again, and again, and ...) to find out what's going on.

What you want to watch out for is one, your desire for quick results - when in fact this may take many more tests, exams, trips to the doctor ... for a full diagnosis. And two, you don't want your desire for a positive outcome to cause you to make light of the situation, or to get in the way of what's going on, and what the exams / tests. etc. are showing you.

But what I'm saying here is mostly about process - about how you should (or can) go about checking to see if you have MS or if You Don't have MS: I still don't see anything that would indicate you do. And again, this is all based on my opinion and what I know about the Yi - it is not a medical diagnosis or recommendation for treatment.

Thanks for your response!

Saturday I’ll have an MRI done. I also have anisocoria (one visibly bigger pupil) unexplained until now, and this with the CT interpretation and the symptoms I am experiencing now are leading me to be scared.

I have already talked with a neurologist and the first step is this MRI.

My main concern (besides the CT interpretation) are the sensations I am experiencing right now, that started two days ago and they’re just as the book tells us may be the first symptoms.

Thank you again! I will keep this thread updated.

edited to add: I know it’s not contagious. I also didn’t know about this numbing and tingling until I felt them and searched google and talked to a neurologist; the collegue had other symptoms. I initially thought I have anxiety because I found out about him but I, again, didn’t know about the symptoms I started experiencing

If you don’t mind me asking why?
For some reason I've never forgotten an article I read years ago. A woman presented with a lot of MS symptoms but it turned out she didn't have MS but the symptoms were from drinking a lot of soft drink.

The update is we ....
Thanks for letting us know, even though the update isn't very 'up'. I'm wondering, does 'we' mean that the medical people and doctors concur that it's very likely MS? In any case, it's good your getting more tests to further confirm this.

As I said above, " .... back to Hex. 34 - here you ... 'think' you have MS, which can (or should) cause you to take further action to have it checked out - which seems to be what you're doing ..... Hello
The advice with hexagram 34 : you must not go beyond your strengths. I don't know if you do a lot of sports, several activities ect... The advice is to slow down, not to force, not to go beyond your strength.
It's like you need to regenerate, heal yourself. Take care 🌺

Thanks for the reply! Yes, the doctors, ophtalmologists and neurologists based on past and prestent history and current examinations.

I was told that once we establish the diagnosis, I will have to go back again and again for many tests (lumbar puncture, blood tests) because that is the protocol towards the treatment. Maybe this is what the upper trigram may indicate?

Take care of yourself Miki.

My interpretation was false. From now on I'd look at 34 differently based on the reading: it can mean "yes of course", "absolutely".

Really sorry to hear that. I was hoping that the I Ching wasn't answering yes/no, that it was answering 'your health is good'. Like @marybluesky says, 34 seems to mean 'yes'.
Sending good wishes your way.

In the end, the official interpretation is that my brain MRI doesn’t show demyelinating lesions (but I’m still expecting another interpretation). Meanwhile, my signs and symptoms got worse and MS is still highly suspected. There are many cases (including my acquaintance) in which the brain MRI is clear but the spine shows lesions, or there are no lesions but the lumbar tap “confirms” it. I am so sad and it’s a hell of a ride, so many emotions but less and less question marks.
Unfortunately for many people the diagnosis process is the worst. I still hope for a miracle, but the odds are really low. I will keep you updated when we know 100%. Thank you for your kind words.. I really feel lost.

It all sounds like such a shock, and such a stressful diagnosis process. There's not much anyone can say right now to make the waiting better for you - the only tip I can think of is 'take it a day at a time', till you know what you're dealing with.

My heart goes out to you as you face your health challenge and hope it helps you to have some support here. What I have learned over time of consulting the I Ching is that it is beautiful how it will answer "yes" or "no" answers in a way that says so much more than a simple "yes" or "no". I like D's thoughts above in terms of how the answer relates to Traditional Chinese Medicine and also your process on your journey which seems to be playing out with you "having to go back... again and again."

It might be helpful for you to read through comment in the Exploring Divination section where there are discussions on Unchanging Hexagrams. In the Unchanging Hexagram discussion of Hexagram 34 someone mentions receiving it in relation to a health question and understanding it to mean to "stand one's ground" --- to "hold one's own". (see https://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/fri...with-unchanging-castings-hexagram-34.18032/0\) Of course in order to "stand one's ground" one has to know and find it... which can be difficult with anxiety interfering and feeling as you say, "lost".

And then there is the sense of hexagram 34 of great vigor coming when one is in harmony with "what is proper order". "Perserverance Furthers". Don't give up. Find a firm but gently way to reach inner equilibrium without too much unnatural force.

Sometimes a healing journey involves coming into order and finding balance on various levels of our lives. Being "lost" is a challenging place in a journey. Sometimes it can become an adventure. MS is one of those "diagnosis" where 100% certainty is difficult to achieve. Perhaps what is more important than the label put on the symptoms is the process you undertake to approach wholeness through the ordeal. What can you do to "find yourself"?

Hi Miki

I am really sorry to read about this.
Yet I want to give you some hope 🙂

There is something called Coimbra Protocol. It doesn’t work for everyone but it does work for about 85% of people with multiple sclerosis.
It is a cure that doesn’t cure but stops the disease from progressing, so you can keep having your life as before!

It is based on huge amounts of vitamin D and a really controlled diet, plus other things I didn’t get into as I don’t have multiple sclerosis, so I just read it superficially. Everything is carried out under doctor supervision of course.

You can find out more about it on
the internet. My country has a Facebook group of people sharing their experiences and the names of the doctors applying the protocol, I am sure you can find equivalents in yours.

It is comforting to read that their symptoms stopped when they started the protocol, so they can still walk, work, and so on.

A few people don t seem to get any benefit from it but I would think it worth a try.

A big hug,

Olga

After the spinal MRI, I am suspected to have am even more serious and rare condition. I can’t believe this is happening and I certainly can’t associate hex 34 with this.

Hi Miki123,

so sorry to read this about your syndrome.

Could 34 be an invitation to stand up and fight??

Dear Miki, this is a very scary and oppressive situation you find yourself in. I feel for you. But it seems from your description that no diagnosis has been truly confirmed yet?
So there is still hope that it will turn out to be either something else, less serious, that you are an atypical case of whatever it will turn out to be, or that in general something positive will turn up for you.
I certainly cross my fingers for you that something hopeful and good will happen to you soon!
Best wishes

I read again your first post and these are symptoms that several people experienced after covid vaccine.

Of course they can pertain to other conditions as it often is. Maybe you didn’t vaccinate in the first place.

But burning, numbing in limbs etc has been linked to covid vaccine as in many people it triggers some neuro degeneration of some kind.

I thought this could lighten your apprehension about anything more serious.
Best of luck

Olga, if you check the date of the original post, you'll see that no-one Miki's age was eligible for a vaccine back then.
