Hi,

I have been unemployed for a few years now, my degree is in animation and animation related jobs are few and far between here, and there's so many graduates of animation that the competition is very high when jobs do crop up.

Being unemployed for so long i decided to focus on my music and work at that, with high expectations that i would get alot accomplished. Unfortunately it seems that without everyday structure my days are passing by and i'm not progressing very quickly. I consider music to be where my heart truly lies, but as all of my 'official' qualifications are in the animation field, its very hard to get a job in what i consider to be my true path.

I asked the Yi ( a very general question now that i look at it ) 'Should I get a (any kind of) job? (and leave music as a hobby)

Hex 4: Not Knowing (Lise)

One has to care for the ignorant, the formless. It still has unlimited possibilities. Without it, life would die away by lack of renewal.
Blessed are those who have something of this in their mind, how little it may be.
And listen carefully to those who speak from out this unborn thing. They are the true sages. Lao-Tze said: “I am ignorant, like a baby that has never yet laughed ...the people are bright, bright, I alone am dumb, dumb”. (DaoDeJing verse 20).

I had alot of changing lines. I understand that if you have many that you DONT read them, and it changes from hex to hex which unchanging line applies??

If that is the case then (to my limited knowledge) Line 2 is the line that i should read?

9 at 2: To care for the ignorant, auspicious. To impregnate the wife, auspicious. Sons sustain the family.
To care for the immature is an investment for the future. Always look for new possibilities and develop them, even if they do not pay yet. Survival needs renewal.

I'm not sure what to make of the overall meaning and this line. Possibly that i should keep an eye out for other opportunities that have nothing to do with either animation or music?

Hex 28;

Life is a cycle, it is circular. It begins, it grows, and it goes down again. To make life a straight road to a distant future is a desperate attempt of human mind to make it never-ending. It will not help him – inevitably he will go down some day.
But if man accepts going down as a substantial, important and good part of life, not as a decline but as a indispensable phase, then he makes his living days twice as many.
Do not live as an old man or an old woman, live as a grand old man, a grand old lady. Without regret or fear, but with the riches of wisdom and experience.
This applies to everything, to enterprises, feelings, popularity. In everything all phases are important.

I think it might be saying just to chill out? Use this 'downtime' as something other then 'progressing/growing' by finding a job? to learn other things?

As always, Thanks a million for any feedback.

is 4 saying that you still have something to learn? or you need
to find a teacher. Maybe you need to invest in a CV expert -
some form of retrain or research needed?

28 is saying the burden is too great - I do not understand when
the second hexagram is foreboding as I thought if you followed
the advice of the lines the 2nd hexagram was the outcome?

or is it saying you are overtrained in your field??? elders please
come to the rescue!

Thanks a mill Hopex!!

I think that i definitely would like to go back to school. I really feel like if i had studied music earlier in life and not focused on Art that i would be in a much better position now! ( in secondary school we had to choose between art and music, you weren't allowed to study both, and my older sisters are both sculptors and i had a natural talent for it, so I chose art. BIG mistake I say! BIG! :D )

I think you might be onto something Hopex, maybe i need to retrain. I applied to universities ( masters level) in music, hoping that my back catalogue of work would get me through, but the way music is taught is much more structured then art. You must have a high grade in a traditional instrument and a high level of music theory for entry. This is the reason I think i failed in getting a college place this year. As a result im taking private tuition in music theory and i start grade 1 in violin in September, but i still get a niggling feeling that somethings off balance..

That funny about 28 alright...

The thing is, people always say that i should've gotten a place in a university, that my music is good enough..( and these are people who are masters and phd grads in music)

and thats what made me think i had a chance! they meant well, but yeah, if i dont got the foundations then i aint gun git nowheres academically in music. ( i think there's a line somewhere in the i ching about tradition impeding culture?!) :p

Thanks Hopex. here's a pressie for you http://fyels.com/B0z00p
(by the way i tried to answer your financial question, but i couldnt read anything into it, sorry i cant repay you with an answer to your own question )

 no thats not the case...its a load of rubbish. The second hexagram does not happen if you follow the advice in the lines...the second hexagram is not the outcome...it makes no sense IMO to think of it as such ...maybe this might help ease the confusion ? http://onlineclarity.co.uk/answers/2011/0521/why-look-at-the-relating-hexagram/

I don't think there are any old people here :p

Mmm no don't agree with your interpretation. 28 doesn't have to be being literally over burdened it can also be about making a stand....alone. Theres the need to move out from under your immaturity (hex 4) is possibly stifling you (28) and you need to move away by making some gesture to yourself of striking out alone.

So perhaps you are dealing with being sick to the back teeth (hex 28) of being almost perpetually immature (4.3.4.5.6) so maybe you need to salvage the good bits of your perpetual immaturity like 4.5 but ditch the bits that hold you back. With the 28 I think theres quite an urgent need for you to 'stand alone' and I don't think this is about enjoying 'downtime' at all , quite the reverse. I think its actually about you needing to go out on a limb a bit (28) be a bit experimental (4..5.6) but in a daring grown up way...hmm be an adult standing alone doing their thing but still utilising the childs creative impulses. Maybe you can have a job and do music.....try not to needs anyone elses approval or permission that keep you locked in perpetual childhood and perpetual childhood is just something you can't bear anymore (28) Or maybe its the 'not knowing' (hex 4) you really had enough of (hex 28) Theres times to drift and not know and theres also times when you had enough of drifting and not knowing and I think this is one of them

Thats quite an impressionistic interpretation I tend to see when there are many moving lines.

If you are a beginner its a mistake to cling to what someone said about if there are 4 lines moving take the one that didn't........

I'm not in a real bad mood...its more of a cartoon bad mood like this  just wish there was some huge FAQ section to direct everyone who thinks the relating hexagram is just the future etc etc too because then it wouldn't need to be explained over and over and over again..because it is quite fundamental IMO to a persons understanding of their answers. I mean I think its hopeless to try to interpret the relating hexagram as the future that will happen if you follow the advice of the lines....I should know I tried it for years before discovering Clarity. The relating can have aspects of the future sure but.........

I have started experimenting with 'change patterns' and here the 'way in' to the reading , the yang pattern, is 33 and the 'way out' of the reading is 19

Hmm I'm not sure about these change patterns things...you change all changing lines to yang for the yang pattern...but if they hold then behind this question there was the wish to withdraw from something and the way out of and beyond the questions is to look for future growth, to get active, not look for results but get active.

also yxeli i deal with many creatives and self employed.
time and self management are big issues - it helps to have
a wall chart with week to view calendar - set goals and keep time logs.
it helps with structure and discipline. maybe learn these
skills (4)
learn about getting organised and working alone.

thanks Guys,

Trojan, sorry i meant it as a joke, I know that the 'elders', the people who know alot more then most of the people who come to 'shared readings', must be bored to the teeth with reitterating things to newbs. so i understand what you mean. Thanks for taking the time out to give me explanations of my reading.

i think your right about some things, i dont think i have become an adult yet ( im 30 and feel like im just getting my head around the fact that this is my life and i have to take control of it,that i can actually be myself. i felt for a long time that i wasnt really a fully formed person, it sounds strange but i never really felt like i was really an individual)

Thanks also for explaining a little of the change patterns to me, i see now that you can use other hexagrams that interchange with your results for more clarity.

I asked the Yi just now, 'should i be more disciplined with regard to my music?'

Hexagram 18 unchanging.

In my small understanding, i think this means that i need to develop my own path? that possibly i have been following tradition with my music a little too much?

''Hexagram 18 symbolizes degeneration caused by spiritual neglect and the corrections required to fix the problem; the price of too much cultivation.''

Thanks hopex, yeah i certainly need to use these helpers that you mentioned, really structure my time more. Thanks for replying =)

Thanks Trojan for your time too. much appreciated.

It seems hard to interpret 18 unchanging in regard to your question.

Probably a musician could help more about how 18 could figure here

But what it makes me feel is that things have gotten heavy and stale and need to get moving again. Also 18 can refer to bad habits that have become deeply ingrained as a kind of 'tradition'. 18 is about the poison tradition can bring so this complements well your hex 4 answer. 18 is old festering stuff that needs the light of day and some work putting in

It would seem perhaps you do need some fresh learning and also given the previous answer that you need to follow your way even if it means feeling out on a limb (28) with no kind of precedence to follow ?(hex 4)

maybe you should seek out some really weird new music teacher or something... but don't fall back into a student role too much, you can learn without categorising yourself as 'student' or 'beginner'...as I said I think you had enough of that (hex 28)

FWIW one thingin life i do regret as an er more older person (yet not old oh no) is wasting time in earlier years thinking I had to wait for the right or perfect thing to do next and there was always a reason why what was before me as an option wasn't exactly what i wanted whereas actually I think it would have been better just to do the next thing in front of me...just to get moving and stop festering

thanks Hopex! It is what i love to do, but i think the yi is saying that i need to looka t my music making from a different perspective...it does feel like im stagnating in that area, new growth is quite limited at the minute...got me down for a good few months but i think its cyclical..i 'hope' that these outward measure will help resotre something that i think has been lost from my musicianship...a kind of musicians block if you will...

but its my favourite thing about being alive so im not gonna give up on it too easily! Gonna fight the good fight and try and get better and feel happy about my compositions more :)

Glad you like it!

HI i agree with Trojan look for some way out teacher/mentor
type person to open up your range and perspective

when the student is ready the teacher appears - approach
the musician you admire most, take a chance and send off
your stuff to way out places !! maybe in the musis industry
production houses -- outside the box stuff though really -
theatres??

to nitpick :D I was more anti playing the role of devoted student here. A new teacher might give some help, fresh input, but I see the rest coming from Yxelis (how the heck do you pronounce that..is exee ?) own exploration of her own unknown potential which actually might include throwing off the shakles of some past teachers instructions (4.6)

The 11>3 answer confirms that for me (in another thread)

haha! i think you can prounounce it - ick-selly ! never used that handle before so your guess is as good as mine ;)

hmm funny thing is i havent ever studied music formally...so whatever bad teaching there has been is my own...i think its asking me to change my perspective on things...

Thanks Trojan :)
