Hi fellow Forumers,

Please help on the translation for below.

I am thinking of changing my hob to go to a another industry which is offering lower pay than my current job thus..

I asked Iching, "What do i expect if i stay with my current job?" on 15 Aug 2006 1.25am

and i got
Hex 6.2.4.5.6
leads to
Hex 2

Any Idea what it means?

Thanks

Tan

Hi tanjhj,
With so many changing lines, I usually just look at the hexagrams.

6 changing to 2 is telling that you are moving from a situation of conflict, to one of new opportunities. The conflict is thus that there is insufficient trust, and that it is not easy to get your work done. Apparently, the situation is however changing for the better, there is a fresh start.

current job

Hi Tan

If you visit LiSi's site, I think you will find the answer spelled out.
My take is that your present job is not worth fighting for.
Go with the flow...move on
best wishes

Hi Tan

In traditional teachings, hex 2 as tendential ALWAYS implies a good evolution, no matter how "bad" could be the principal hexagram.

So, I agree with Ewald on this.

Now, You could find more clarity if you take a step back to see the wider picture.

I would suggest you:
a) General diagnosis of my labor time
b) Diagnosis of my concrete situation in my current job
c) Qualification of my wish/idea to change job.

Best wishes

6 suggests there is some basic difference in intention at the root of the situation. When you first took the job were you expecting something different? Like, were you hired for one job but your actual duties have you doing something else? Or did you take the job intending to be there for a short amount of time but have stayed longer? The Image emphasizes the importance of being very clear about the agreements at the beginning.
6.2 suggests you may not be in a position where you can challenge the situation, like can't afford to quit?
6.4 Knowing you can't quit just now you decide to make the best of things?
6.5 Perhaps there is some authority you could appeal to?
6.6 But that might not be a good idea. Even if your concerns are recognized, you may find the issues can only be temporarily resolved.

Changing to 2 suggests to me that if you are going to stay in this job you'll have to resign yourself to going along with things.

This is quite a different interpretation from what ewald was seeing. Ewald, were you reading 6 - 2 as meaning the (6)conflict would just (2)quiet down if he would just persever? Possibly, but it seems like a high price to pay.

Tan, maybe you should ask what you could expect if you were to leave this job?

Just a hunch but is it possible that if you stay they may get rid of you anyway. I remember recieving such a configuration with a situation. Or maybe they pick up on the fact you are considering leaving.

I agree with Lagunaders take on it. Perhaps now you also need to ask about the new job you are considering going to and compare with this answer.

Also worth repeating here that the relating hexagram is not taken by everyone to signify the progression of the situation, it can signify the background to the situation. Thus rather than saying 6 and its lines leads to a situation of 2, some would rather say hex two is the whole background situation that has given rise to the six situation.

If your current job is something your background/family etc led you to then maybe 2 would fit that it is something you are plodding on in with not much heart in it and this is giving rise to conflict of some kind.

I notice that pay cannot be what motivates you to change as you say it is less money in the new industry so must be you think it will bring other rewards.

I agree with so mcuh of the above....
IF you stay.......Conflict will be present and it will be a situation of "complaint dismissed" ....'cant fight city hall' type of thing is what I read in those lines.....you will be along for the ride doing work for them (2).

Is this a kind of burn out situation for you? It sounds like the reading of one who has become tired of trying to bring things to the attentions of high-ups, trying to effect change.

I would ask "what is the potential for me if I decide to leave" OR what kind of effect will the lower income have on me in general?

MOney is often the factor that holds one back from making a career change, but money is not so impt as the happiness/contentment factor....contentment at work leads to all kinds of good possibilities, ones maybe not immediately evident.

If you leap, the net will appear. so says julia cameron.

Btw, the transitional hexagrms 6.2 > 12.4 > 20.5 .> 23.6 >2 indicate a path begginning with a conflict you may as well not even bother wth, moving into a clogged situation wit evil people but spying some hope for breaking free, and then 20,5 says you arrive at the clarity you need to see what it is you are truly doing there, and clarity about what you personally are wanting to do......... 23.6 means the end, either splitting from the job Perhaps...with a new begiinning that possibly feeds on the best skills you have garnered from this old job. Or the job itself might hold a new possibility for you. YOU may be the one who dismisses your own complaints and decides to stay. BUt Dont do that in the spirit of resignation or you may not be any happier.

the other method for steps of change would be 6, 12,59,64, 47......basically conflict leading to feeling stuck, then dispersment and dissolution (of the work load perhaps), more of the same (64).....leading to 47-burn-out. Seems leaving might be wise in the long run.

best wishes in ths decision.

Quieting down would suggest that over time the conflict would be forgotten about, but wouldn't really be resolved. My impression is that hex 2 is somehow inherent in the situation, that the conclict (hex 6) perhaps "cleared the air," renewing the situation, so that there's a fresh start.

Knowing a little bit more about what happened would make it easier to say something about what this really means.

ok this is the whole picture. few days back, i asked iching what will i expect for the next 6 months if i quit my job this months. and iching replied that for the 1st 6 months i will bw like crippled by the lord of darkness but i set my path right and work it thru, i will be fine.

Abit worried, i sense this crippled means financially crippled as the new job i going to join will be offering me a pay that is 40% below what i getting now. thus i asked Iching again what will i expect if i stay in my current job and the result is as abv.

Am i right to say that Iching replied to me is that there is no blame if i stayed in my current job but i will experience conflict in my minds unless i decided to stay whole heartedly or leave totally. The new job will be a new pasture for me?

Hope this helps in giving you people a better understanding of the Iching answer to my doubts.

Hi tanjhj,

I'm actually more interested in why you want to quit your current job. Is it that you don't like it? What's so good about the new job that you are considering it while you get paid 40% less?

Shift work and Industry is that i am not keen in.
the industry i want to go is to see if i am really keen in it. If i am keen, i am going to
further my studies on that field..

Your original question is only about your present job. So after all the problems and doubts that you have had you will finally realise that conflict is not the way to settle any problems. This will eventually lead you to hex 2 which says that if you follow and don't try to lead (perhaps be bossy or arrogant) then you will find success. Quiet work will give you the success that you want . There is absolutely no need to change your employment.

I'd say that renewing your current job in some way is what would happen, learning to deal with it's challenges. You'd become more keen in it. Your resistance against it would diminish and go away.

Staying in your current job seems to work for you: 6->2.
For your question about resigning your current job, you got 36.2: doesn't seem like a good idea. So from just these two readings, it would be a good idea to keep your current job.

However, I'm not sure if resigning meant to you to switch to the other job. If it didn't at that time, you might ask what you can expect from switching to this other job.
