Finally overnight a job came up that I really think might be a good fit for me, as opposed to a short-term contract to pay the bills which is what I was seeking previously.

What's the potential if I apply for this position?

17.1.4.5 to 2

From my understanding this indicates I should go for it.

Wondering if anyone has any input? Want to make sure I am not merely reading it as I would like it to be.

I really appreciate any feedback if anyone has the time.

Hi Hujambo,
Today I'm trying to give a feedback to someone else's reading for the first time, so please take it as a begginer attemp and a friendly advice. I'm also trying to join the job market.
I think you are right, the Yi is trying to tell you to apply for the job whatever will be the outcome, and maybe the position won't met your hopes in every sense but it will be fortunate if you try.
Good luck !

Thank you Endless. I hope there is something I can learn from the process because job-hunting can be a pretty demoralising thing at times.

I'm pretty new at this myself and also have been trying to give feedback. BTW, I saw your 2UC post, and interestingly, I did the same reading before I joined with the same result! Since joining, I'm learning about all kinds of things, not just the I Ching which is a nice surprise.

Yeah, I think this is a place worth exploring, even if we lost ourselves in the process the succes is certain.
Concerning job-hunting there's always a light at the end of the tunnel. But the key should be a good profile regarding the requested position and lots of enthusiasm. So don't lose your enthusiasm !
I've just finished my PhD and looking for a post-doc contrat. At the same time, I try to regain my energies and be prepared for anything that has to come as 2uc advices.

I hope everything will turn out for the best in our search.

Excellent reading!

17.1. The basis of circumstance is changing.
Correct continuance brings good fortune.
It is beneficial to go out of the gate to find associates. He gains merit.

Now there is energy where there was none, but this needs to be used in following (correct continuance). To follow our circumstances we need to go out to them, to follow with them (the associates).

A new way of obtaining money has come along, use it!

45.4. Great good fortune. No error.
Time to sacrifice your old job, and regroup.

8.5. The kings of old in China used beaters on three sides only when hunting game;
the game on three sides were trapped but those in front ran free. The citizens need no warning.

The act of flowing without doing requires that we take no precautions, so the citizens need no warning.

The job came by by itself, if it is going towards you why not catch it?
Very good line.

Quick update - no job yet.

Just an idea, what if the beaters on three sides relate to only one path being optimal at this time? I say this because I have noticed a trend throughout the course of my life. I have witnessed myself say to others that I am usually prevented in some way from going down inappropriate paths, I refer to it as divine protection and all that jazz, so as to mitigate the requirement of verbalising my understanding any further. I have already committed myself to a life of "freedom to follow the will of heaven" which kind of narrows my options down. The keyword being freedom.

Another update. Last night, I received the exact same result when asking a question: Will I be able to reconnect peacefully with my mother at this time? 17.1.4.5 to 2

For people looking at this in the future, the answer is most definitely no. Because I tried a couple of times but could not even speak with her. Not to mention all kinds of mundane things and people got in the way.

The reason I think it is a no is the text of 17.4
Nine in the fourth place means:
Following creates success.
Perseverance brings misfortune.
To go one's way with sincerity brings clarity.
How could there be blame in this?

The action that I was thinking of taking, in both cases, is contrary to prior decisions I have made. In fact, both the traditional job hunting process in my field and the talking to my mother are known to bring on cases of extreme self-doubt in me historically. Mainly because in both cases I am proposing putting myself in a position where the way I am as a human being is likely to be experienced as a challenge by the people I am associating with. To go one's way with sincerity brings clarity. ie. follow the path I have already committed to.

Hi Hujambo !
Evidently, I'm not aware of your process in job-hunting, not even know your professional field, and excuse me if this suggestion is not opportune, BUT
have you ever thought about a start-up ?

Spot on, Endless! I'm an IT Specialist.

You see above Ashteroid mentioned to sacrifice the old job. I had already done so last year. Financial concerns and the occasional inability to be at peace with an unknown future cause me to think of returning to the old ways of earning money. I started a business a while back, it takes time to build it into a reliable source of income. Every time I go off and take a job, it sets my business back to the beginning. I get to eat, but the jobs make me terribly unhappy, requiring way more hours from me compared to the original agreements/contracts (16-20 hour days), and I'm usually ridiculously overqualified. "A mug's game."

Oh, I see.
Sacrifice, what a word. Each time I read a line that contains it, I start to tremble. I think it's a big concept, something that we don't really get in its whole sense. Yesterday I watched a french ethnographic documentary where a group of people sacrificed an animal in a special way, to appease some entities. It is as if there were some kind of forces acting strongly on our unconcious that we need a sort of symbolic way of acting. We appeal to a sacrifice whenever we want to get a better state of mind. But this, we don't do it just for ourselves, do we ?
Why did you sacrifice your work, is there anything else involved ? Is it for the best of your people, community or family ? If not, why does an unknown future get you so volatile ?
Sorry if I'm being too intrusive.

It's precisely because I have little to no support from friends, family, community to support me that I worry when I have no money and no known source of income. It takes great trust to refrain from leaving the path when survival is at stake. It would be foolish to suffer from starvation or homelessness because of adherence to a principle. It's a contradiction of the society I live in that as I grow more into my own truth, the expression of which is quite joyous, so does the opposition I encounter from everyday individuals increase - particularly in the workplace. Sorry, I have to go get the door...

Two words for you, Endless. Emptiness and fullness. For me, they are the principles behind sacrifice, ie. a symbolic offering with gratitude - an offering that creates space for the next stage of reality to come into being.

Hmm, the 2nd reading is more clear to me. But the first one - it all depends on the details of 'the opportunity that came up'. The key here is again the last line, 8.5 → 2.

Wilhelm:
the kill should consist only of those animals which had so to speak voluntarily exposed themselves. There is depicted here a ruler, or influential man, to whom people are attracted. Those who come to him he accepts, those who do not come are allowed to go their own way. He invited none, flatters none - all come of their own free will.

If you have to find this job first, and run after it, trying to 'shoot and catch' - then no.
But if it is running towards you and you only need to decide whether you would like to shoot it - then yes.

The 2nd reading says to wait for your Mom to initiate the reconnection, because you've already tried to.

p.s. I'm also in IT, programming/db/web/building desktop machines, but I'm almost done with it.

OK Ashteroid. That's quite good. Yes it was a job application, not a job offer - apologies for the confusion. In relation to my mother, I was trying to call her after receiving a letter from her. It is I who had requested her not to contact me at all - but she keeps doing so. That said, I was trying to call to see if I could ease her discomfort a bit, nice gentle hello, I'm fine, have a nice day, etc. She is very controlling of what communication I can have with her and it was my birthday so she would have made herself uncontactable on purpose (she's explained this strategy to me many times about my sister, LOL). Anyway, beaters on three sides and she's headed for the hills, literally! It was close a shave, I nearly fell for it, phew!

What's really important is that the feeling for both situations was very similar - a kind of capitulation for the sake of a false idea of pragmatism.

It's a very clear instruction in hindsight. That quote was from your answer, Ashteroid. Nice work!

as in, does this not remind you of the art of non-doing?

One last update. Another opportunity is now clearly visible on the horizon, an opportunity I have been working on generating from behind the scenes for a long time - it doesn't involve leaving my path, it's a situation I knew would eventuate and the company in question will need help from someone with my skills, but all the pieces are not quite in place yet. It's probably not a very good way to phrase a question to Yi - holding the scenario in my head and putting a question mark at the end, but I don't know how to phrase the question.

Now I really need to understand the difference between actually receiving 8.5 > 2 versus 17.1.4.5 > 2 after all the info Ashteroid has kindly supplied me with.

XXXX business/employment opportunity?
8.5 > 2

Any thoughts on how to interpret this. I don't understand the significance of transitional hexagrams versus actual lines received.

Thanks Endless, there is definitely something to gain or learn with this one. I did one more reading tonight after further discussions with the person I already know at the organisation, I will know more next week.

26.6 > 11

I'm pretty happy with that :) Seems like a natural conjunction of paths that could prove to be beneficial for all concerned. Particularly with that 8.5 reading followed by this one and my overriding desire to be "free to follow the will of heaven." I'm convinced Yi has a dry old sense of humour. After our communication yesterday I had the best dreams, you sparked some interesting thoughts, so thank you. I woke up this morning surprised to find that I was actually on earth, no idea where I thought I was while I was asleep.... wherever I was, I was sure having a great time, woke up singing. hehe

By the (surrealistic) way, did you look at the blue moon ? I know, you live in my Antipodes...
Ok, ok, is there any chance for us to read about your dream ?

Wow another 8.5 :) The forum seems to be flooded with it.

26.6 is a great sign yeah, allowing yourself to be a part of something great, not leading but just riding a wave.
Seems it's all coming to you and that's awesome, good luck!

Where did this "not leading but just riding the wave" come from, I wonder? I have searched the texts I have to hand, it is not what these readings mean to me except in the way that I am not the one who will determine their fate. That fate will be determined by their next round of choices, they do have the option to make a spectacular recovery, it's up to them. If I had received the 17.1.4.5 reading for this one, then I would understand about not leading, but 8.5, not so clear where it says to just hitch a ride on the wave.

The organisation in question is coming up to a crisis, in fact they are already in it, but they don't yet have transparency on the myriad of challenges they face nor how to get it (their IT Department is a total mystery to the senior leadership team). If I assist them it would need to be in a position of some leadership in order to help initiate a turnaround. If they continue the way they are, it's just a matter of time before they don't exist. It's a 100 year old organisation, my respect for their value in the community is likely to be a mutually beneficial rallying point. The idea is to help them return to their core purpose and stabilise their foundations, providing fresh vision at a time when everyone feels backed into a corner. I am on the "bleeding edge" of the wave, not just riding along with it.

It would require my entire 30 years of experience plus the will of heaven to help them turn their situation into a positive one, yet the allies that seek to hold together the organisation are starting to become apparent. They could benefit from a bit of inspiration and some help with how to do it, I am intensely loyal when it comes to shared goals. They might align with me, or they might align with people or ideas that have a lot less integrity and respect for their value in society (those in it for a quick buck and transitory glory), they also might find someone who is even better suited to assist them, who knows? Also, there are likely to be some who arrive too late and meet with misfortune. Lots of people have already lost their jobs over this mess and there will be more.

I thrive in situations where survival depends on bringing order amongst chaos and usually after a half a dozen or so "miracles" the people at the very top of an organisation tend to trust in that ability and find the same skill within themselves, thus they feel confident to start driving their own positive organisational change - achieving coherence, ie. everyone starts working in the same direction. Notwithstanding all I've mentioned above, my method is very much in the style of non-doing and my kind of energy is not required when organisations are seeking to maintain the status quo. So I will not be leading the choice nor seeking to influence their initial decision, but if they do choose to avail themselves of my services, I will do my utmost to lead them out of their current confusion and likely give all the credit to the person who made the decision to work with me ;)

Now that I read what I have written in that last post, I have to laugh... wee bit of transference there. If I've pushed any buttons or otherwise negative outcome, I apologise. Asked myself last night before I went to sleep to consider how I will present myself to this organisation when/if the time comes... on waking I write that post! At least I can see quite a clear difference between transitional hexes and the way I have been interpreting multiple changing lines. Hmmm, perspective is everything.

Based on that previous load of twaffle I just spouted out. When I meet with the organisation I will simply ask them, what do you need?

Hello
I too have a a connection issue with my mother - and however hard I try Whatever I do seems to make no difference to the outcome. I have to wait for her to want to connect both with me and her grandchildren. She needs now to want to see us - you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink
I tried making contact this week (a no 2 week) and she didn't answer the phone. Best to wait - let her phone if she wants...

You have a good understanding of 2 and have helped me with a 2 issue and I think that your own counsel of just being in the moment works for both your job and your mother.

By the way I posted this before reading the last postings - and I don't think it's a lot if twaddle - even if it may look like twaddle it is sensible twaddle... Rather like when I was a child and we played in my grandmothers garden - we got very dirty - our hands were always dirty - if we asked to wash our hands she would have a look and just say 'clean dirt'....a good bit of clean dirt was probably good for us (my stomach is like cast iron) - rather like a good bit of sensible twaddle ...

I like reading twaddle -

The well, they need your abilities. I think your need to make them visible in some way, like when you arrive and someone offers you a glass of water.
C'mon, the job it's almost yours.

Exactly, although it will be pretty difficult not to say anything at all during the initial discussions. They will need some reason to work with me after all.
