Willowfox says yes she is only here to be helpful, and willow respects all querents equally and has done so for the past 3 years.

What willow does is not pure I Ching but a mixture of methods using a dose of intuition as well.

Willow cannot answer because she has been banned from this site because of her remarks to queen ginnie.

Sounds like a good question for the I Ching, Ginnie!

Meanwhile perhaps it would be helpful to look at it this way:
Willowfox's comments are obviously so inappropriate that if she meant for you to take them personally she would be banned from this site. As she is still allowed to post, this must be a sign her comments are not intended for you or any of us to give any personal attention to. Just read them and wonder at the many faces of God...

Actually, it was a sign that I'd stopped for lunch and no-one had reported her last few posts - though your interpretation is good, too ;).

WF is suspended for 3 weeks - if anyone wants to talk about that, please visit this thread to do so.

Bamboo,
Thank you for your straight forward counter to Ginnie's interpretation. You've given us a much needed example of how we can debate messages without shooting the messenger.
r.
Absolutely.

I think if you look back over recent posts from WF and Ginnie, you'll see that it wasn't altogether fair of you to lump them together like that.

Very quick note for Rose - I imagine 13 is there to say that the 'path' you are asking about is a matter of joining a fellowship. Looking back at how you felt about the interviewers in this light might give you more clues about the hexagram 18 reading. Presumably you can't become a doctor without joining their professional community? Do other institutions have a very different approach from that one, or is this something you will just have to learn to live with?

Anyway... I think hexagram 13 and both its moving lines might be talking about this. I'm deeply embarrassed to say I don't have time to write you a proper interpretation - all I can do is quote the general things I've written about the relevant texts. Here you go...

‘People in harmony in the wilds: creating success.
Fruitful to cross the great river.
A noble one’s constancy bears fruit.’

People create harmony amongst themselves where they are of like mind and one voice and have common cause. They come out from the walls of their villages to forge alliances in the wild country – that is, they seek out common ground where they can meet, beyond the familiar boundaries that usually serve to define the limits of ‘people like us’. This means radically expanding the whole idea of who ‘we’ are.

Such fellowship is usually created between people – but it can also take place within people, for instance between inner selves, or between apparently unrelated traditions and ways of knowing. There is harmony when these are brought together in inner conversation to create strong alliances.

There is strength and energy in alliance. People in harmony can commit themselves further, take greater risks – they can cross the river and enter new territories. Once there is agreement, it’s worthwhile to follow the vision tenaciously, with the constancy of a noble one.

Image

‘Heaven joins with fire. People in harmony.
The noble one sorts the clans and differentiates between beings.’

Imagine the fire reaching up towards the night sky, joining with the stars to cast light on the many clans gathered around it. The noble one has the clarity of vision to see the shared nature that all the groups have in common, and also what each individual group has in common, and how this distinctiveness comes from their clannish roots. Harmony between people will not come about by forcibly amalgamating the clans; to disarm their natural defensiveness, he needs first to recognise and respect identities different from his own.

Sequence

People in Harmony follows from Hexagram 12, Blocked

‘Things cannot end with blockage, and so People in Harmony follows.’

The exclusive, obstructive mindset of ‘us versus them’ must be replaced by a larger sense of fellowship. Human awareness lights up the world, perceiving and creating the possibilities for co-creation and overcoming the drift apart of Hexagram 12.

Line 4

‘Bestriding your city walls,
No one is capable of attack.
Good fortune.’

It’s not easy to be in harmony with others if you feel constantly vulnerable. So the first step to peace is a robust boundary that protects the richness of your inner space. When you have this refuge that no one can possibly breach, there is no threat, and no need for any hostilities.

Line 6

‘People in harmony at the outskirts altar.
No regrets.’

Outside the walls, there is an altar-mound where many people can gather to make offerings. This is a wide open space, with enough room for everyone to be as they are without friction. And in the broadest, simplest sense possible, there is a shared interest that sets past conflicts in perspective. This doesn’t mean that you can be in perfect agreement with everyone, but there is sufficient agreement that change can be accomplished. There will be no regrets for a phantom perfection; the past is left firmly where it belongs, and a new phase begins.

(I don't think 13.6 has anything to do with whether or not you have a family. It actually makes me think of more of MSF.)

I have laid bare my dream, it’s my dream. It deserves no justification. More than a dream, I feel a calling. Felt it for far too long. A decade has passed, this is not about career or happiness or money. This is about my life purpose. I don’t have an answer why Im drawn to this. This is one thing I feel so passionately about. I have faced ups and downs, but this dream has stayed. It is part of who I am. And I believe in it. Yi to me is a benevolent oracle. I do not believe it will ask me to give up my truth. If at all, it has taught me that myself is what I can work on.

I only have the power to change my course.

Maybe I shouldn’t have asked if I would get into Med in 2011. It’s like asking to know the future…

I think the most important Q is if it is the right path for me. It was scary to ask that Q cos what if it wasn’t? 13(4,6)--> 63 still doesn’t resonate with me yet. I still cant make the connection. Im hoping one day it will.

Hi Rose,

I'd look at the 63 as Yi's confirmation that everything is in place here, regardless of a lousy interview (13.4.6). Perhaps you could also consider your state of mind at the time. Yi does predict the future occasionally, but just as often reflects our own doubts and fears at a given moment.

I remember asking about whether teaching would be the right path many years back. The answer wasn't encouraging, but pointed to what I needed to deal with personally before I could become effective at my job. Ten years later, I still teach and consider it my life's calling. I don't believe that a single i ching reading can spell out your long term future, though it can be an invaluable guide to living in the present.

Your intentions for medicine are incredibly inspiring to me. I work in low income schools so I relate to your calling in that sense. This kind of work is emotionally overwhelming at times, though I can't think of any job more gratifying. When reading your posts I thought "please please go for it".We need more people like you out there.

Best of luck to you, Rose.
