Good morning all!

I'm quite new to the nuances of the I Ching and could really use some sage advice on interpreting my recent reading. Here it is:

Should I leave my position at [company] and accept the position with [company] and see the mistress everyday?

(just a note about the history behind the question....5 years ago I discovered that my husband had been involved in a three-year affair. We have worked on repairing our relationship and have a renewed and loving marriage. We have faced extreme adversity and circumstances throughout the healing process. When I decided to work on my marriage and not divorce a series of terrible events ensued...I lost my well-paying job (and every good job since), lost my reputation in my industry (people judged me for staying), every person that I ever called friend has rejected me (for reasons I still don't know), my husband lost his job and was out of work for 2 years, we lost our home, our cars and our savings, I was forced to file bankruptcy, my husband has not held a full-time job in over 4 years and I cannot find a full-time position in my field or a position that pays a livable wage (I now make $25K dollars less than I did 2 years ago and I have to work two jobs). We lose a little more ground every day. We've gone from being on top of the world (not rich but comfortable) to being firmly underneath it in just five short years.

Which bring us to present day....I applied for and was offered a position with a company that offers excellent medical benefits and a top notch pension. It's secure and stable - something that is quite important to me. I should be thrilled. My current employer, while pleasant, isn't a long-term job. It's a paycheck not a career builder. I am hesitant to accept the offer I received for two reasons: 1st - the pay is $7k dollars less than what I'm making now (and i already have to work a second job), and 2nd - because I discovered that my husband's former flame also works for the company. In fact she works in the very department for which I would be working. I am not sure how I would react seeing her everyday - both of us painfully aware of her transgression. I really want the opportunity offered by the new position but I'm not sure how I would handle seeing her every day.

I'm not sure if this is a step that I need to take in order to complete the healing process or if this is a test to see if I will walk away if directed....I trust that the powers that be guide us all towards our unique higher purpose but I'm terrified of making a huge mistake because I'm listening to MYSELF instead of ancient wisdom)......I'd appreciate insight into the meaning of the reading....be gentle (lol)!

Thank you all in advance

Hexagram 11, Flow

Key Questions

How will you work with this extraordinary potential?
How can you channel the flow of energy to create harmony?

Oracle

'Flow. Small goes, great comes.
Good fortune, creating success.'

Flow is a sign of the free and full expression of tremendous creative energy. It is the name of China's most sacred mountain, Tai, which is imbued with spiritual power. The king would make great offerings at its summit to establish a flourishing, peaceful relationship with Heaven. This is a time to create harmony with the greater flow, letting its energy pour into creative manifestation, as a river flows down into a fertile valley. Pettiness is swept away downstream, and the way opens for free communication. Great things become possible. The true scale of things is revealed, dwarfing your smaller concerns. You sense the powers that surge through your life, and know how far beyond your control they are – yet you can enter into true relationship with them and participate in Flow.

Image

'Heaven and Earth communicate: Flow.
The prince enriches and completes the way of heaven and earth,
Upholds and assists the order of heaven and earth,
To support and protect the people.'

Sequence

Flow follows from Hexagram 10, Treading:
'Treading and also Flow, and then there is peace. And so Flow follows. Flow means flowing together.'

Pair

Flow is paired and contrasted with Hexagram 12, Blocked:
'Blocked and Flow are of opposite kind.'

Changing Lines

Line 3
'There is no level ground without a slope,
No going out without a return.
Constancy in hardship is no mistake.
Do not sorrow about its truth.
In eating and drinking there is blessing.'

Hexagram 19, Nearing

Key Questions

How does this want to grow?
How can you take responsibility for its development?
What would your greater self do?

Oracle

'Nearing.
Creating success from the source, constancy bears fruit.
Reaching an end in the eighth month means a pitfall.'

'Nearing' means drawing closer and gazing down over what you approach. There are two strands of meaning here: the approach of a greater spirit or presence in an ongoing process of growth, and your approach as the one who pays attention and takes responsibility. Like the creative drive of Hexagram 1, this great, growing energy comes from the source, asks for your full participation, and seeks to reach fruition and be realized. But its surging growth can be disastrously interrupted by 'reaching an end in the eighth month'.

The eighth month is the month of harvest. If this comes round too soon for what Nears to reach full growth – if the situation demands that you produce a tangible result prematurely – then this means misfortune. Or if you focus exclusively on results instead of watching patiently over developments – if your expectations are out of touch with the pace of growth – then there is misfortune.

Having something to show for a process of growth doesn't mean you've arrived at its outcome: harvest is not the end. As each harvest is gathered in and stored, the seasonal cycle of growth continues; you need to stay present to its ongoing changes, wherever they might lead.

Image

'Above the lake is earth: Nearing.
A noble one teaches and reflects untiringly,
Accepts and protects the people without limit.'

Sequence

Nearing follows from Hexagram 18, Corruption:
'With work to do, greatness becomes possible, and so Nearing follows. Nearing means greatness.'

Pair

Nearing forms a pair with Hexagram 20, Seeing:
'What is right for Nearing and Seeing: someone reaches out, someone seeks.'

Hot tip for maximum response ;). Write the line in so this cast would be 11.3>19...

Line 3
'There is no level ground without a slope,
No going out without a return.
Constancy in hardship is no mistake.
Do not sorrow about its truth.

What does this suggest to you ? To me it suggests you simply ride this, go with it accepting there may be 'hardship' on the way. Hardship in Yi often seems to refer to going on through difficult things that aren't your fault. This answer isn't exactly telling you what to do, it's a very philosophical answer and one people often do get in times of hardship. It's more or less telling you not to mind too much about the ups and downs of life. Hexagram 11 of course a time of great flow, things happening, a lot of energy..and here this job has washed up at your door, it has approached you (19) so what will you do ?

I would read the line over and over a few times and decide how you want to take this. Also you may not see as much of her as you may think. I mean in your imagination you have probably played out worse case scenario that she's sitting right next to you but she may be far more removed (that's my thought nothing to do with Yi)

On the other hand this line might be consolation for you choosing to pass the job up ? My own sense of it though is that you take it.
