i find coin tossing handy i don t have all day to shuffle yarrow stalks the hexagrams you get are correct right at approx after the time you ask just make sure you phrase the question correctly in right tense with no ambiguity also if anyone wants to understand www.superiching.com by alex chiu just e mail me at meerkats64@hotmail.co.uk for i ching zip folder which will easily make sense of it for you. i have given it to other people already such as peter grant and hilary bennet and loads of others before them if you want it e mail me

I find that coins tossing still not too handy because many times I do not have all of the same kind of coins to toss.

So I just write a sentence to cast the Hexagram which is much easier. Such as:

Is this good for me?

Is => I is 1 stroke, and s is 1 stroke = 2
this => t is 2 stroke, h 2 strokes, i 2 trokes, s 1 stroke = 7
good => g 2 strokes, o 1 strokes, o 1 trokes, d 2 strokes = 6

2+7+6 = 15/8 = 7 => ☶ upper trigram

for => f 2 trokes, o 1 stroke, r 2 strokes = 5
me => m 3 strokes, e 1 stroke = 4

5+4 = 9/8 = 1 => ☰ lower trigram

9+7 = 16/6 = 4 is the changing line.

☰ Hexagram 26 is named 大畜 (dà chù), "Great Accumulating".

☰ Hexagram 14 is named 大有 (dà yǒu), "Great Possessing", "possession in great measure".

As I pick that question instantly to explain the method, and it says it is limitless. We can use it anytime and everywhere, even without a pen.

This is another method of Mei Hua Yi Su. Mei Hua Yi Su has about a hundred ways to cast a Hexagram.

Hi Peterg,

I think I should explain a little bit about how to cast the upper Hexagram and lower Hexagram.

If it is 2 words, use the first word for upper and second for lower.

If it is 3 words, use the first word for upper and second and third for lower. The reason for this is because Heaven is light float on top, Earth is heavy rest at the bottom. Therefore, 1 word on top, two words at the bottom. Same for 5, 7, 9 words. In another words, if all words add up to be even like: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, then just divide it by 2, and upper and lower Hex are equal number. If all words add up to be odd like: 3, 5, 7, 9, then divide it by 2, add the remainder number of 1 to the lower Hex. However; if a sentence is more than 10 words, then do not need to use strokes of the letter. For Instance a sentence of 11 words, 5 words will be number 5 for upper Hex, and 6 for lower Hex... 60 words/2 = 30/30 and 71/2 = 35/36.

So if it is 1 word, then count the stokes of all the letters from that word. If the total strokes are 3, 5, 7, 9...21 then divided by 2, and add the remainder number of 1 to the lower Hex. For example 21/2 = 10 remainder number is 1 => 10 for upper Hex and 10+1 = 11 for lower Hex.

- To find the moving line, take the total strokes of all words from the upper Hex and lower Hex add together and divide it by 6.

For example like: is this good for me, we should add the total stroke of 15+9 =24; However, in my case for some reason I make a mistake using 7 instead of 15 without knowing it. (If you did not ask, I would not know)

Now as we know that when casting a Hex, or doing the reading, when we accidentally making a mistake without notice it immediately before the reading, then we must use that. Do not ever change it back to the correct one. Now the mistake one will be the right one, and change it back to the correct one will have a wrong reading.

Through all my years of reading, all the mistake Hexes that I made, have a 99% correct prediction, almost never wrong; while with the right Hexes, sometimes I still have a wrong prediction. I called this the Spirit of I Ching. It wants me to make a mistake so I can be right!

At the time I have an advance Zi Wei class that took a lot of my time, and a Mei Hua Yi Su book to be finished, I do not have much time like I use to. However, anybody who need personal reading from, just post it here. I will find time. Please make sure to include the date and time you cast your Hexes, and what method that you use to cast it.

You should probably be made aware that the current Yarrow method you describe here is less than ten centuries old. It is a re-invention attributed to Zhuxi of the Song Dynasty, as are these rules for understanding multiple changing lines.
It is very doubtful that this was the method of Yarrow divination used in the Yi's first thousand years. In fact, a preliminary statistical analysis that I did of Pre-Qin divination results suggests that the original method produced 6,7,8,9 probabilities very similar to our current coin method (1/8, 3/8, 3/8, 1/8).
Someone should also let you know that the original authors of the Yi did not have a theory of Yin and Yang. This came along 500 years later.

I know of one study of Pre-Qin divination results that attempts to find the correct method, but it doesn't disprove the Yarrow Stack method. It enhances it. See Shih-chuan_Chen.pdf. Is Bradfords' study available online?
