I have been having a very 36 time, apparently. A week or so ago I asked everything around me feels like it's collapsing... why? 36.1.4>62 I didn't see a why here but more an image of what. Goading from mother and boss compounding what is already stressful- line 1. Not a fun time.

Came across a job listing I found really intriguing, which hasn't happened much in my job search. What if I apply for it? 36.1>15. :hissy: Can I catch a break? I need it. This line is mysterious but not encouraging, especially in light of the aforementioned goading by some with an unfortunate enjoyment of getting a rise out of others.

In my exasperation and desire to will some affirmation from the oracle I asked what hexagram would you show me to indicate YES? 4.1.2.3.6>36

:rofl:Is there a name for that feeling when you want to cry and laugh at the same time? This ignoramus is ready for a month long nap. Wake up me when the tides have turned.

Heatwave sorry to hear it's going so bad for you at the moment.

everything around me feels like it's collapsing... why? 36.1.4 > 62
Because something you thought could be corrected with some distance (36.1) is actually a hopeless situation (36.4). And all you can do is keep a low profile and not expect much.

What if I apply for it? 36.1 > 15
I think this is saying leave it for now, not a great time to apply.

what hexagram would you show me to indicate YES? 4.1.2.3.6 > 36
It can't show you yes because it's not a yes. You're dealing with lots of fools and you need to keep your light covered for now, as fools by default cause hurt.

Is there a name for that feeling when you want to cry and laugh at the same time?
There was one in Ancient Greek, it was called klafsigelos, a compound word meaning crying-and-laughter.

Hang in there heatwave till the storm crosses over...

Heatwave,

The thing these three readings have in common is Hex. 36. What I'm less sure about is how you're interpreting this hexagram, given that you're talking about things 'collapsing,' or being 'not encouraging,' and that you are an ignoramus - seemlngly all in relation to 36.

Some names for 36 are Brightness Hidden, Brightness Obscured, and Enshrouding Oneself. The ideas is that you 'hide your light,' but this is not necessarily a bad thing. Instead, there could be a wide range of reasons why you might not be ready or willing to reveal something: tt might be out of fear or as a kind of intentional retreat, but it could be, for example, about saving resourses for when they are most needed, such as closing the flu on a wood stove so as to save the warmth for the next day; or it could be a time of gathering strenght, or that it's just not the ideal time for you to reveal something.

But I don't usually think of this as a 'bad' hexagram, or being about collapse. Instead I can see it sometimes being encouraging, and about showing intellegence, not stupidity. It might be describing a situation where you are 'hiding one's light' or that you might want to consider doing so.

If you haven't already, you might look at the sticky in the Exploring Divination sub-forum about positive and negative hexagrams.

Thank you both. I was clearly having a moment.

I don't necessarily see any hexagram as good or bad (or any feeling, event, person, etc.). I just know that I was feeling pretty bad when asking these questions and 36 has been popping up as a response. I guess I already feel like my light has been hidden for a long time and it's like this hex is saying to stay put, especially with work. Maybe I'm not hiding the light in a productive way. The season is finally changing and that makes me feel like more movement and change is possible. I don't even mean on an intellectual level but just within. It's like it has been a long winter and I'm ready for spring, but 36 is Groundhog Day.

I will think on 36 more and how I can hide the brightness in a way that embraces the time. I like thinking about it as gathering strength as you've pointed out, David. It took me a few days to gather a certain kind of strength to come back and respond to this thread even though it was something I wanted to do. Maybe in the context of my question it means that I could be spending my time improving my resume. Maybe I wouldn't even get this job without gathering "strength" for it, even in terms of credentials or vision. That's how I've been thinking on it anyway. I began the enrollment process for a volunteer position I've been on a waitlist for today since that opportunity came to me easily. It feels a bit like gathering strength.

Thank you diamanda for klafsigelos. I wish it rolled off the tongue more easily!
