I'm just wondering, could it be that 36 only referred to the circumstances of the tea date itself?

I'm not particularly worried about Dennis at the moment. He seems no more wolfish than your average sheep-looking creature, not that I have a stellar record judging these things. For precisely that reason, I'm far more worried about myself.

Pakua, my thinking runs along the same line as yours but is not limited to the one specific tea and biscuits event. Dobro's second suggested interpretation runs behind yours by just a very little. Put it this way: I made a conscious effort NOT to behave with this man in such a way as to provoke the Yi to shriek at me, "36, nitwit, 36!!" Working at not inviting nasty behavior apparently is going to be a lifelong project for me. And I don't know how much control I have over the social signals I convey; it may be that no matter how hard I try, I'll always be wearing a "Kick Me" sign somewhere on my person. We'll just have to see, whether with Dennis or with others.

Meanwhile, here are some other Q&A's I've come up with over the past week. These were spaced out over several days.

Q: Does the 36.0 mean I should wait longer before jumping back into the fray?
A: 61.0

Q (asked after tea and biscuits): Any further thoughts on Dennis?
A: 14.1-->50

Again: To me, all the above is food for thought and not the definitive map of the world.

Calumet,

As to body language, you are aware of it - that's an accomplishment. You might want to watch movies where there is an assertive female (not aggressive, not passive) and "try on" one or two of their behaviors, to see what feelings they evoke in you. I've been away from my computer and my book is at work, so I'll try to answer your Denning question later today.

Hi Calumet, I will have a go at this Food For Thought project.

Hex 61.0 brings me to this; If you find in your self these qualities, sincerity, honesty, correctness and steadfastness in matters small, it is wise to enforce sincerity.
Inner truths reflect the invisible and will make themself known eventually.
This is indicitive of a heart (or mind?)free from prejudice which is open to truth.
Mutual confidence the base for its developement in this relationship if all things are equal.
I see this as positive and suggest you contemplate another tea and biscuit senario.

Hex 14.1>50

I cannot say in honesty this is thoughts on Dennis, Calumet, but here is what I have read from my interpertation of this Hexagram and its change.
Cultivating a union, giving the yin a prominance in its developement. All other lines are in acordance. 0.1 before change reads( no relationship with the harmful, no shame) > into Hex 50 which gives 6 in the 5th as honors to the yang at the 6th position. I see this as the danger in this reading for you both. If you are the dominate yin in fact, and he the yang and you are uncomfortable, there is conflict? Extraxting from what I read with no intent to plagerize, through gentelness the eyes and ears become sharp and clear. Yealding yin go upward, finding correspondence in yang will indicate success.
I still think he shal persue you.
Now; this is my homework for the evening..LOL

Best wishes/ Jer

"Q: Does the 36.0 mean I should wait longer before jumping back into the fray?
A: 61.0"

You ask about jumping back into the fray, and the Yi talks about you connecting inner and outer in yourself, and embarking on a major course of action and carrying out what you think is right. I'd take that as a thumbs up lol.

"Q (asked after tea and biscuits): Any further thoughts on Dennis?
A: 14.1-->50"

14.1 talks about staying away from what is harmful, and how this is difficult, but without fault on your part. Poor old Dennis. He just isn't getting much good press from the Yi, is he? Does he have a brother? A friend? A colleague? Anybody?

Hi all,
some random thoughts:

14.1 lack of commerce with trouble

However it is not certain the identification of the poor Dennis with trouble IMHO.

We could link this 14.1 to the previous 36, i.e. of course there is some potential trouble to avoid , but quoting Calumet:
"Working at not inviting nasty behavior apparently is going to be a lifelong project for me."

I'd guess there is some negative element, not yet clearly indicated, from which Calumet should stay far away, but it could be also some negative aspect of her character, as she said, for instance.

So 14.1 is indeed negative, but we could also read as "stay away from your old habit of putting yourself in trouble".

Calumet, if you were able to identify this negative spot and staying away from it, 14 could indicate a very wealthy relationship, the related hex is 50, which suggests a deep transformation (of yourself?).

So I would read as follows:
14.1 if you follow your old way (whichever is the negative aspect) you will fall in trouble.

14 potential of great wealth, related to 50, a very deep transformation.

Peace
Paolo

Dobro chortles (oh yes he does):

"Poor old Dennis. He just isn't getting much good press from the Yi, is he?"

Some days (weeks, months, years) are just like that. I think I'll go talk to the Yi about work, which has suddenly become WAY too interesting.

Came across this old thread looking something else up...
For the record I think 36 is on it's face about hiding your light, not showing too much.
This doesn't have to mean feigning madness to keep a Totalitarian Ruler from chopping off your head, as the Yi gives as an example on one line. You could scale it down to "playing it close to the vest."
In the movie "Hitch" Will Smith is a dating coach, and one thing he teaches his students is if they are serious about someone they have to play somewhat hard to get. Express too much attraction and you blow the whole thing. Well Hitch is advising men, but still.
If you ask about someone you are very attracted to - as Calumet was - the Yi could simply be saying you should play it cool. Don't put all your cards on the table face up, let things cook for a while. Not uncommon dating advice, and it *was* a question about dating... About 15 years ago! Lol.
Sorry - my 15 year old takes over the TV - and that's what he was watching yesterday!
