Do you think we are being a bit superficial ;) in our treatment of these lines, we seem to be whizzing through them with little debate ? Or maybe its all plain to see in 22 ? I assume everyone agrees 22,2 is about being vain ? Maybe we're all just happy to take 22 at face value, you know in a 22 kind of way.

screeeeeeeeeeechhing to a halt, getting out shovel to dig deeper into 22.

j/k

I think 22 is what it is, and it is face value. It can be pure or superficial, depending on how much makeup is applied. But that also is subject to who wears it. There are those who look perfectly natural bejeweled, and those who are themselves simply.

While I use this image for hex 38, it also illustrates what I mean about the above. This is our own beloved LiSe, Carin, and also Petra. I love this image.

What a wonderful photo!

I may not be near a computer for Monday. If one of you would feel to be a knight on a white horse with wings and post 22.5 on that day that would be great. If not I'll post when I get back. Thanks.

HOw would that picture ever be relevant to 38? hmmmm.
BUt I love it for 22.

Back to 22.3 lest we rush so rudely past it.

I drew this hexagram the other day. Something potentially dreadful happened. And yet it was also something that I knew/know could throw open a door. When this happened, I expected to feel initial horror, but instead I felt a kind of pulsing joy, I felt electric in my body.........but I was afraid that I was too stunned and not really in touch with my emotions. I asked the Yi about this...like Can I trust myself to be really dealing with this?

22.3.....It could have meant that I was just feeling on the surface. Sometimes the body protects itself from grief or shock by going "electric" ..the nerves pulsate, you feel a bit numb and almost joyful.

But the line also gave me hope. It was a stunning moment of perfect grace. Maybe like just before a free fall off a mountain side, one might hang suspended in the air for a second or two that feels like an eternity..before going crashing to one's death! Terror and grief may be sure to follow......and yet that one moment when there was pure freedom and grace is a moment to be persevered in, prepared like a parachute, to open when the crashing fall comes.

Maybe later I will feel the "reality" of the event in a more devastating way and cry, scream, curse..but I think a 22.3 moment is the more true reality.. it is the moment when for one split second the veil between heaven and earth, grace and lowliness, is lifted

Fair question. I don't regard 38 as estrangement or opposition, or at least not in a negative sense. I see 38 as individuality. People with opposite ways can coexist in a peaceful way. My little prose says:

Never let anyone rob you of your own decent opinion. Neither be a thief. Agreement is not always necessary.

I've found this approach to 38 to be very helpful. Much better than having to defend myself or my own decent opinion; though I still knee jerk once in awhile . But the chip on my shoulder has become much smaller and lighter as a result. Just another work in progress.

Listener, I like your experience of 22.3. I've also noticed an ethereal quality, a sort of out of body experience, a subtle combination of attachment and freedom from attachment. But also with the warning: don't drink and drive.

Bruce, beautiful!! beautiful. I love it. It makes perfect sense, the girls with all their different ways, different colors, different expressions.....and with the windmills in the background.....differences make the world go round. it really is a brilliant picture for the 38, after all. wow, I think I am having a 22.3 moment about it.

"May you always be courageous,
stand upright and be strong,
May your heart always be joyful,
and your song always be sung
...and may you stay forever young"

I think the women had a stranger take the picture, while on a field trip to a particular paper mill, for art supplies. (Carin or LiSe, please correct me if I'm wrong.) There's some other shots, taken by LiSe/coyote, that just knock me out. Check this one out. There's no color effects or enhancements.

I don't know where martin is as he usually comments on the astrological side but I feel 22,3 to be very Neptunian and the above misty picture reminds me of that. Glamour itself is a kind of mist perhaps where you don't see the real person but are spellbound by the image. This can take you to the heights but also deceive.

Kept drawing 22 about my fiance. I hoped with all my heart that 22 was about a marriage suitor, as he was.

Sadly so, drawing 22 meant the relationship did and could not really meet me/us? at the soul level.

He is off for another sacrifice.

22.3 would be Jupiter in Gemini and Saturn in Sagittarius. No Neptune there but these are mutable signs and Jupiter also has a mutable quality (it rules the mutable sign Sagittarius). Like Neptune/Pisces.
Perhaps this accounts for what Bruce called the 'ethereal quality' of the line. The energy or 'vibe' of the mutable signs is light, subtle and more mental than physical. 'a sort of out of body experience' says Bruce, yes, sort of :). And 'a subtle combination of attachment and freedom from attachment' also fits these signs.

Btw, as I wrote earlier, I'm very busy and don't have the time to comment on the lines like I did before, but I will try to write something about the hex as a whole in every thread.
I sometimes wonder if people are interested in this stuff though, it's maybe a bit too far off? Of course the trigrams and the planets are not exactly the same (Denis_m commented on that, I didn't find the time to reply, but I agree, Denis) so the 'astrology' will be off sometimes ..

Good to know you're alive and kickin', Martin. It's all Greek to me, but I do enjoy reading the connections you make with astrology. None of this is exact science as far as I'm concerned.

Don't forget that Jupiter traditionally rules Pisces. I find the traditional rulerships very useful.

Best wishes,

Sorry to hear that. I have to say its been my experience with 22 and relationships that all that glitters is not gold.

I guess I was associating 22,3 with Neptune cos Mariyn Monroe kept flickering across my mind for some reason over 22,3  Thinking of the intense delight of an infatuation before you really know someone or the magical feelings of your first crush on some unobtainable film/pop star etc - its as if they covered in 'dew' as in some magical transparent quality that is indeed other worldly and ethereal as others have said.

At its highest maybe 22,3 is a sense of transcendence, something really beautiful like Listener described. Perhaps on a more mundane level its glamour that beguiles and conceals. All that spelled Neptune to me, though as Martin says I don't think theres any exact correlation, nor should we try to make one, sometimes it just stands out though.

yes, yes, yes Marilyn MOnroe, how fitting! I read somewhere that she could actually walk around unnoticed with the "light turned off" ........ that she said to a friend once as they walked along...."Do you want to watch me "be Marilyn"? The radiance of her beauty was something she could turn on and off, apparently.
BUt when it was ON, she became a dazzling creature with a kind of innocent fresh beauty that transcended physical form. ...even tho her physical form was pleasing, not to dispute that, but the essence of her charm was not just physical.
And God knows there was a lot of other stuff hidden under what looked like sheer innocent radiant beauty.
My gosh, Marilyn monroe is going down in my notes about 22.3 Good one, trojan

Wilhelm's translation:
Six in the fourth place means:
Grace or simplicity?
A white horse comes as if on wings.
He is not a robber,
He will woo at the right time.

Brad's translation:
So elegant looking, as if of pure white
A white steed, as if on wings
Not an adversary but a marital suitor

LiSe's translation:
Then energetic, then silver haired, then a white horse soaring up (then a shaggy - or longhaired - white horse). No bandits, marriage.

Is it just me or does the Yi seem to be taking a mocking tone towards this guy? Why else would it say, ''not a robber,'' ''not an adversary,'' or ''no bandits''? It's as if the Yi is saying this guy has (or seems to have) false intentions, perhaps because of his overwhelming pretentiousness and slickness. Over on the other side of the pond, perhaps you'd say this guy's a ''wanker''. Or am I misinterpreting this?

I was needing a ride Saturday, the day we began focusing on 22.4. A friend of mine blew into town with her latest romance. They were heading in the direction I was wanting to go and so without any fuss or confusion, they scooped me up and took me with them.

Grace or simplicity?
Was it the GRACE of God this came together for me, or just that my request was so SIMPLE?

A white horse comes as if on wings.
Anyway, I liked the fellow very much. He made it seem including me was easy.

He is not a robber.
My girlfriend however felt very uneasy, having just learned that he was actually not officially devorced yet so she wondered if he was intentionally leading her on, perhaps taking advantage or her.

He will woo at the right time.
I urged her not to end the friendship, but to give him some time to streighten out his affairs.

Six in the fifth place means:
Grace in hills and gardens.
The roll of silk is meager and small.
Humiliation, but in the end good fortune.

Naw. He just holsters his Colt, strokes his mustache, and smiles at the pretty lady, whose life he just saved. Every movie needs a good bad guy.

Line 5
"When invited to the palace be wary that the richness of the surroundings can amplify the condition of one's dress. Poor clothes. Forgiven.(Refined)"

Line position 5 is ruled by hexagram 8 and its association to the court/ruler etc.

with/from facading comes rigid structuring (where such structure elicits tension release)

From the XOR perspective, the 08-ness of 22, how the characteristics of 08 are expressed by 22, is described by analogy to 37 - and so one gets interpreted as the 'poor' cousin or 'ecentric' uncle/aunt; the rigid structure is maintained by allowances are made for 'family'.

I wrote this last year. What Jack was saying reminded me of it.

One fine day
as she lay
languishing in a lullaby
a handsome prince
on a great white steed
came riding by.

A damsel in distress no less
is what he did percieve
so he set about to recuse her
from her unknown grief.

"Fair lady" he cried,
"let me rescue you from the depths of hell."
"Stay back!" Warned she
for she knew the paradox well.

By no means was it that she didn't want to be rescued.
To play kiss chase and be the one persued.
When she looked at him she saw the man he wanted to be
and loved him in an instant that would last an eternity.
Here he was offering her the dove
What he thought equated to love
And love it was
But she wondered for how long
Whether she could reinvent herself
to keep those feelings strong
Again and again
How many faces must she be?
For somehow she knew better than he
That he woud love to tame her
and therein lies the fun
But that would only take them to the end of Act 1
And once he'd had is wicked way
Well, then he'd be on the run
Not from her as he thought
But what he had become

xx

Loved your poem, Nicky! Thanks for sharing it.

Well I had a 22.5 experience today, definitely felt like Chris' eccentric aunt in the rigid family structure....

Grace in hills and garden.
I went into this very snooty dress shop to pick up a dress I'd bought for my mother the week before which they had had to special order in her size.

The roll of silk is meager and small.
I thought I was looking good but...anyway, after the store manager ignored me until the other customers chorused, "She is next in line!" I finally got some attention - only to be sternly told that she did not believe me when I told her I had paid for the dress already! Fortunately the woman who had waited on me was right there and recognized me and assured the manager I was correct (throw back to "not a robber"?).

Humiliation, but in the end good fortune.
I didn't feel humiliated - maybe I should have, my black socks with open toed sandals were a bit avante garde - but I think the store manager was embarassed. But not that big a deal, I wouldn't have remembered it if it hadn't fit today's I Ching. Bottomline though, the dress fit Mom perfectly so in the end good fortune.

 Rosada you're priceless ! (with or without your black socks and open toed sandals)

Must be alot warmer ther than it is here !

That line did play out pretty literally for you hmm...the concern with enough fabric and everything, maybe cos you are posting the lines you are more in touch with it.

Ahhh, those old movies... All classics. The decade that brought us luminaries like Vanesa del Rio. Brazil wasn't anywhere in the "styling map" way back then...
